A young pro Barkley is the closest thing we've seen, but he's more of everything that made Barkley special. He's bigger than Barkley was. Barkley could really motor up the floor, but Zion is faster and is point guard quick laterally. He jumps even higher and more importantly, he jumps more quickly than just about anyone. He rips through the smallest seam in the defense, and he's got vise grip hands. His moves are super fluid and concise, and he makes very quick decisions. He has an amazing motor.

When you watch him, everyone else looks like they are moving in slow motion. The old NBA that Barkley played in allowed for massive centers and beefy power forwards. The modern NBA is obsessed with spacing and shooting. I don't know how anyone is going to contain him. As long as he doesn't get hurt, he's going to be very similar to Giannis in his impact.

It would be ridiculous not to give up Tatum for him.

Bigger but Barkley had like a ridiculous 7'6 wingspan

Makes a big diff
Didn't Chuck only have a 8'10" standing reach? Wouldn't that put his wingspan closer to 6'10"-7'?
Still ridiculous for a 6'4/6'5 PF.
Jaylen Brown for All-NBA

Oh yeah, no doubt. Imagine someone not much taller than Smart being a 25/12 machine, lol.

I’d trade Tatum for Zion’s mother after tonight’s game.

I would trade tatum for Barrett or Zion and have a better team for it.

Both those guys are a great fit for this current Boston team.

Tatum for Zion
Horford and Brown for Davis

Irving
Smart
Hayward
Zion
Davis

Tatum for Barrett
Hayward and Brown for Davis

Irving
Smart
Barrett
Horford
Davis

Barkley wasn't quite as big, but he may have been longer. He did a lot of the same stuff. For a while, he was dunking everything in sight on much bigger players.

The biggest difference between the two is that Zion is quicker than Barkley was. Maybe not faster, north/south, but he's super quick. He's also going to play in a shooting/spacing era. Barkley played in the golden era of big men. If Barkley played in his early prime now, he'd wreck the league too.

What did you expect really?  A 19 year old kid had an outstanding rookie season and spent an entire offseason hearing about how he was the second coming of every hall-of-famer since the inception of the NBA.

Add to that the "veteran presence" the Celtics brought in to guide Tatum is Marcus Morris.  Now Tatum plays a lot like Morris - relying on a lot of ball stopping iso moves, chucking up bad 20 footers, etc - and everyone is shocked.

And let's not forget the weird "good son/bad son" routine Brad Stevens has played all year with Tatum vs Jaylen Brown where Brown could do no right and Tatum could do no wrong... I'd hardly call the consequences each faced for errors equitable.  What is Tatum supposed to think he should be doing differently if he's still starting over Hayward (a max player) and Brown (another 3rd overall pick).

The kid's not any worse than he was a year ago, he just got a rude awakening to the world of the NBA.  Everyone else is good too and if you're not improving they're going to move on without you.

It's more than likely he'll respond to the challenge this offseason - and this down season might have a silver lining in that he's most likely dropped his trade value enough that an Anthony Davis for Tatum plus pieces deal is now sort of laughable.
