Who do you have?  And will Betts and Martinez split the voting, causing both to miss out on league MVP?  Mike Trout is an amazing player, but I'm a believer that MVP should go to a guy who lifts his team to wins.

Betts. He has a higher OPS than Martinez and is an elite fielder and base runner.

I'd be tempted to say Cora for team MVP.  He has fixed so many of Farrell's mistakes and has this team playing so well.

Betts will win, but without him, Martinez would win the Triple Crown and probably beat out Trout.

Worth noting that we have arguably the two best hitters in the league, and the best pitcher, in the same season. I looked it up and there have been something like 19 seasons where the same team had MVP and Cy Young (more than I thought). But what about Cy Young, MVP and another top-3 MVP finisher?

Cora wanted a hitter at the top of the lineup to set the tone of the entire offense. That player is Betts and he has been dominant at bat, on the bases and in the field. He has to be the MVP

I go JD. He delivered Cora's mojo to the Sox.

Don't overthink this.

It's Mookie Betts.

JD has helped Betts , JBJ etc become better hitters

He has the most number of game tying/winning hits on the team (top 3 in the league)

He has helped turn a good offensive lineup into a powerhouse offensive lineup

Without Betts vs JD. Less potent without JD

I'm pretty sure Mookie and JD will split the vote, and that will probably lead to Trout getting it, unfortunately.

Then again, if the Sox can get a ring this season, that'll make everything better.

i am stealing from a SoSH discussion since it has relevance to this thread.

____________

Just over 3/4ths of the way through this season... If you break down our first 120 games into equal thirds, we've gone...

3/29 - 5/13: 28-12 (.700) (113 win pace)
5/14 - 6/26: 25-15 (.625) (101 win pace)
6-27 - 8/13: 32-8 (.800) (130 win pace)

During that 25-15 run, Mookie missed 15 games while on the DL, during which the Sox went 8-7. They went 17-8 (.680, 110 win pace) in the other 25 games.

______

this would indicate that the mook is pretty [dang]ed important to the sox.

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.
