Title: The "Let It All Out" Ridiculous Blow Up Thread
Post by: PhoSita on January 19, 2013, 02:22:24 AM
So we just had a crushing loss against a hated foe.  What to do now?  Well, hit the Trade Machine and blow it up, of course!

Pierce for Eric Bledsoe and veteran filler:
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=bszwao8

Rondo and Bass for Cousins and filler:
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=avlsakr

Terry for young bench filler:
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=cwcxr8o

Throw in picks on either side as needed.  Voila!  Team blown sky high.  Oh, the catharsis!

Roster after blow-up:

Bledsoe / Fredette
Bradley / Lee / Fournier
Butler / Green / Garcia
Garnett / Sullinger / Odom
Cousins / Hayes / Mozgov / Melo

Is a team built around Cousins, Bledsoe, Bradley, and Sullinger going to win a title someday?  Probably not.  But hey, it would be interesting to see this group of strangers try to figure out how to play together!  And we'd have a bunch of new young guys to HOPE about.  That would be a very athletic back-court, too.

Garnett is kept around because he has a no-trade clause and 'cause he needs to teach Cousins how to maintain a level of rage and insanity just manageable enough to have a successful career.

Can you do better?

Actually, this wasn't a crushing loss ... these losses I can live with, because we fought back in the second half and played well, almost stealing a win without Bradley.

I don't feel too bad after these losses, because we maintained the renewed energy that we've had since Avery's return.

Just my twisted view, I guess ... plus I don't care for "blow-it-up" threads, especially when we're finally becoming a cohesive unit.

Nothing personal, (TP for the post), just my humble opinion.

It's half-full time again, folks. :)

Well, I hope you caught the facetious tone of my post.  I don't actually think the team ought to be blown up.  I'm not actually that down about the team we have.

But I do find I have the urge to go into "fix it" mode with the roster after every disappointing loss.  Pretty much regardless of any other circumstances.

This thread is supposed to be kind of an ode to that totally irrational desire to "throw it all out and start over again" every time the team suffers a loss that leaves me feeling disgusted and wanting to wash my hands of the whole mess -- even if the team played pretty well all things considered.

I imagine I'm not alone in feeling that way, right?

BOS Trades:

Paul Pierce
Brandon Bass
Fab Melo
1st round pick (maybe 2)

ATL Trades:

Josh Smith
Al Horford

God, we would be the best defensive and one of the best rebounding and low-post teams the NBA has seen in a while.

New Lineup:

C: Horford/Collins/Wilcox
PF: KG/Sullinger/Smith/Wilcox
SF: Smith/Green
SG: Bradley/Terry/Lee/Barbosa
PG: Rondo/Terry/Barbosa

This checks out on the trade machine, but we would need to take ATL's front office out for a night-long Absinthe tasting for them to agree. I mean, they are likely losing Smith. Their team as is, doesn't seem like it will stick....maybe they want to blow it up too???

Pierce likely opts out, which then saves ATL enough money to make 2 max-contract offers.....they get the ability to start from scratch, and also gain a rising asset in Melo, plus a 1st rounder or 2.

Celtics obviously become one of the worst jump-shooting teams, but it is more than made up for with size, rebounding, team defense, post scoring.

Our future rotation is solidified with Rondo/Bradley/Lee/Smith/Green/Sullinger/Horford

If we're going to trade Pierce, then I think this would benefit the C's the most.

Boston sends:  Paul Pierece & Fab Melo
Boston gets:   Demarcus Cousins, John Salmons, Aaron Brooks

Memphis sends: Rudy Gay
Memphis gets:  Paul Pierce

Sacramento sends:  Demarcus Cousins, John Salmons, Aaron Brooks
Sacramento gets:   Rudy Gay & Fab Melo

Why for Boston?

DMC is the big that they need now and for the future.  A future core of Rondo, Bradley, DMC, Sully & Green is a pretty good core.  In the meantime, you have a starting core of Rondo, Brardley, Green, KG & DMC.  Salmons can back up Green at the 3, Brooks gives the C's a capable backup at the point.  This type of trade would probably allow Ainge to move Terry and or Bass for some other pieces if needed.

Why for Memphis?

They apparently want to get under the luxury tax limit and while Pierce doesn't help with that this year, he's only guaranteed $4 million for next year.  However, he probably helps them more this year in the playoffs than does Gay.  In fact, there was a lot of talk down in Memphis that the team played better in last years playoffs without Gay then with him.

Why for Sacramento?

This only works for them if they are truly done with the headache that is DMC.  If that is the case, then with this trade they add an athletic and high scoring SF that they lack, as well as a young center with some potential.  They can keep Jason Thompson at the 5 and this would free up some more time for their top 5 pick Robinson.

I don't care if it doesn't work - make it happen! No matter what!

Maybe we can even throw in a pick or 4 to Chicago to sweeten the deal, eh?

I got as far as:

Paul Pierce for Josh Smith, John Jenkins, Ivan Johnson

then I tried to trade Rondo. Didn't make a lick of sense. Couldnt do it.

How about Doc Rivers for Tom Thibodeau?

I mean look at both our rosters, the Celtics have more talent than the bulls on paper. Thibs gets the most out of his players and doc asks about his players feelings first.

Not sure why the Hawks would trade for Pierce.

Because he is one of the few scoring 3's without character issues and with championship pedigree that might be available, a desperate need for the Hawks of they do or do not get Howard next season. And, if he doesn't work out, only $4 million guaranteed next season.

I've also spent some time playing with the trade machine, looking for some ridiculous return. Here my best shot:
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=auvhjcs (:
I mean, you asked for ridiculous ideas, and these are the best players reportedly avaiable, so I think it would be hard to do it better than that, right?
Rondo/AB/Gay/JSmooth/Cousins
Barbosa/Lee/Sullinger/KG
+Delonte&Oden and I suddenly like our chances... lol

Hey, one can dream, can't he? (: Or maybe I'm just 'mentally tired', as Coach Rivers says? Whatever the case may be, give me few more losses and I might proceed with a similar trade in my 2K13 roster..

I've got another one:

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=b9gzdeq

The Warriors become a really dangerous team RIGHT NOW and perhaps next season, too.

The Celtics get Klay Thompson and Andrew Bogut, who could be a nice big man to pair with Rondo going forward if he can ever stay healthy.

The rest is filler.

Wow, Pierce and Garnett. I was thinking it'd only be one of the stars when I clicked and that that wouldn't be enough to part with an up and coming star talent talent like Klay Thompson ... but the two together? That's gotta be a little tempting for GSW.

I guess it depends on how much confidence they have in Bogut. I think they'd need to believe that Bogut is done to break up their team and take a chance on two such elderly veteran players. If they have any confidence in Bogut at all, I think they still say "no".

Well, first of all I acknowledge any trade involving KG is pretty much an absurd notion given the NTC and everything else, but ignoring that --

The Warriors have been great this season without Bogut.  Considering that, and Bogut's questionable health moving forward, exchanging a nice SG prospect and Bogut, who's given them nothing, for two All-Star (ish) type players at the end of their careers could really be worth it.  Especially since they're headed to the playoffs for the first time in a long while this season.  Pierce and KG could help take them deep into the playoffs and really give them the greatest playoff run for the Warriors in decades.  And they might play for the Warriors next season, too.

I think it makes a lot of sense especially when you consider that David Lee is best at center and they have a great sixth man at PF in Landry who needs a good number of minutes.  They can play KG 25-28 minutes at center each night without wearing him out too badly, and they still have Ezeli for 10-12 minutes a night there if need be.

Terrible, awful, no good trade for the Warriors.

They have Jarrett Jack already who does everything Terry could hope to do and way, way more.

My series of trades, they all work on trade machine.

CLE - Green
BOS - Varejao

LAC - Pierce
BOS - Butler, Odom (expiring)

MIN - Garnett
BOS - Pekovic, Ridnour

ATL - Rondo, Lee
BOS - Teague, Williams, Korver (expiring), 2014 1st

IND - Terry
BOS - Augustin (expiring)

So the team the rest of the year with all the moves is:

PG - Teague, Augustin, Barbosa
SG - Bradley, Ridnour
SF - Butler, Korver
PF - Sullinger, Odom
C - Pekovic, Melo, Wilcox, Collins

IR - Varejao, Williams

In other words, the team sucks the rest of the year, but next summer, has room for 1 max contract (in addition to room to re-sign Teague and Pekovic) and will have Varejao and Williams coming back in addition to that probable high lottery pick.

2013-4 projected lineup
PG - Teague, Ridnour
SG - Williams, Bradley
SF - Butler, ?
PF - Varejao, Sullinger
C - Pekovic, ?, Melo

Then in the 2014 summer, the team once again will have room for a max contract when Butler and Ridnour come off the books and get a couple of more 1st round picks (their own and the Rondo trade) in what is projected as a very deep 2014 draft.

Obviously this would be a risky way to go, but it clears a ton of salary to get cap room each of the next two summers and provides a number of young players on reasonable contracts to develop.

Yeah not sure Cleveland does it, but with Andy out for the rest of the year and aging (in addition to always hurt), they may be open to acquiring a younger guy that can play now and given he is out for the year (and always hurt), I'm not sure how much more value they could get elsewhere.

Dear 2012/2013 Boston Celtics,

Why are you the way that you are? Honestly, every time I try to do something fun or exciting, you make it not that way. I hate so much about the things that you choose to be.
