So after Moranis posted his gaming system to buy thread it made me wonder what games folks are playing right now, and if there are any hidden gems I've missed out on. I haven't had as much time to game as when I was younger but right now I'm playing the following:
On my PS5 (all sporadically)
- NBA2k24 (yes I'm one of those idiots that upgrades every year even tho I could just update the rosters...I only play offline franchise mode though)
- FC 24
On my PC
- World of Warcraft (the only game I've played semi continuously for 18 years, mainly because I met people 18 years ago and we're all still playing it together if not I would have stopped long ago
- Crusader Kings III (just got back into it)
- Halo Master Chief Collection (started playing it for the first time after watching Halo on Amazon Prime)
Anything good out there anyone can recommend that I might have missed out on? Ideally something you can pick up, play an hour or so and then put down again and not feel like you're falling behind)
Been playing Bloodstained: Nocturne in the Moonlight. It's a spiritual successor to Castlevania: Symphony of the night, made by the same game director. Gameplay is a sidescrolling action RPG with heavy stat elements and broad build variety. A lot like a 2d Dark Souls, though not as difficult. Dark Souls almost certainly drew inspiration from the original Castlevania RPGs actually.
But it's a lot of fun. You are so weak at first but become god-like if you build your character properly.
I played most of Halo Infinite recently. The open-world concept mostly works, but the environments and scenarios are a bit repetitive. Which is unfortunately par for the course for open-world games. But the combat itself is the best-balanced in the whole series. Too bad they didn't add a bunch of big linear dungeons into this to break up the dull stretches.
Baldur's Gate 3 is great, probably the best pure RPG experience ever. You really do have quite a bit of moral agency for once. Too bad it's hamstrung by the crappy DnD ruleset. IMO Larian Studios' previous game, Divinity Original Sin 2 had a better combat system. The DnD system is simply unbalanced and caters heavily to a few builds/feats.
