I don't know why teams keep overlooking Sam Cassell.

Is it his personality? Is there something about him that turns front offices off?

It has been several years now of being overlooked.

He is in fact actually an alien and there is proof somewhere?

At least one NBA team was interested in Juwan Howard.

But that interest doesn't appear to be reciprocated.

Michigan basketball's head coach has turned down discussions about any NBA head coaching jobs, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

"Sources: Michigan's Juwan Howard continues to tell NBA teams he's not interested in even a discussion on leaving Ann Arbor," Wojnarowski tweeted on Thursday afternoon.

Too bad.

It is... but looks like he is treated like a basketball god with that program

Once he can secure a NCAA title, maybe then his mind will start to wander

What about Paul Pierce surrounded by Stevens’ coaching staff?

Yuck.  Paul isn’t coach material, and I don’t think that Brad had that great of a staff.

Agree. Just because someone was great at the game doesn’t necessarily mean they’d be a good coach of the game. I feel the same about KG and Rondo.

He’ll probably be more interested in 3-4 years.  His younger son looks like a prospect with NBA potential, but won’t finish high school until next year, and is likely ticketed for the ‘24 or ‘25 draft.  Good to inquire now, and if we get the wrong coach this time, Howard might more available for the next search.  Hopefully we get the right coach this time.

Whoever the new coach is, I hope he wears a disguise like Shaq and tells the team

‘Hello! Hello! I’m the new coach’.......lol

I love that commercial.

Why do people think any player can just be a coach? It is an insult the coaches to suggest that any star player can be a coach without training.

Yeah. At least KG flat out said no way to replacing Stevens, he admits he would not be a good coach at all.

For those who think some former players were too emotional to make good NBA coaches, here's a reminder of Ainge as a player:

Howard is coaching at a major school, and those schools pay their football and basketball coaches 7 figures. Stevens got a bundle coming out of a relatively minor school, Butler.
It's likely that NBA asst coaches are a cheaper get than major college coaches. And money is clearly a factor with the Celtics ownership. They are still paying Stevens a bundle.
I wouldn't expect the next coach to come from a major college program.

Why are you so  convinced money is a factor? Aren't the Celtics also saving money by no  longer paying Danny Ainge? I'm sure Ainge was making some serious money.

Per Jeff Zillgitt and Mark Medina of USA Today, "Coaching insiders indicate the Celtics will hire externally rather than promoting from within."

According to Woj, Stevens—the team's new president of basketball operations—plans to interview a number of external candidates, including Los Angeles Clippers assistant Chauncey Billups, Milwaukee Bucks assistants Darvin Ham and Charles Lee, Dallas Mavericks assistant Jamahl Mosley and Brooklyn Nets assistant Ime Udoka.

Rumors have also linked longtime NBA head coach Mike D'Antoni to the gig

B/R's Jake Fischer reported Monday the Celtics were interested in "young coaches who are said to relate well with players" and that "playing experience in the NBA" was another preference.

Additionally, he reported "team personnel contacted by B/R maintain that hiring a Black candidate is another top priority for the Celtics. If Boston can also land someone who has previous head coaching experience, that person would further meet the Celtics' criteria, sources said."

Don't expect a decision anytime soon. Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe reported the team "has not yet whittled the list to a group of finalists, and that the search could go on for a few more weeks."
