Wow, the patriots made a flurry of moves today. Smith, Judon, Godchaux, and Mills.

I think they're not done yet. They need more weapons and a QB 2

a QB 2?

Busy day for the Pats.

Kind of torn on how I feel about it.

On the one hand, they do clearly recognize that the team has some major holes that need to be filled.

On the other hand, they seem to think that they're a few aggressive free agency moves and a good draft away from being relevant again.  No other explanation for spending top dollar to get guys on day 1 of free agency.  They aren't getting that championship discount anymore.

I still feel like this is a team that's several years of patient building away from being in a position to compete again.  Biggest thing is they don't have a QB who can give them a chance at winning meaningful games, so all of the other moves are kind of beside the point.

They also have the worst receiving corps in the NFL. Hard to attract a better QB when the team has no weapons.

it's sort of a chicken / egg thing.

what QB would want to sign with a team that has so few weapons?

how many skill position guys are going to be excited to sign with a team that doesn't have a QB who can make them look good?

i think the only way out of that jam is the draft.  you draft a talented QB who can't choose where he ends up.  then maybe you recognize that you aren't able to draft receivers, so you use money in free agency to find decent receiving weapons.

hopefully that's their plan.  use money in FA to shore up other areas and then go after the best talent at QB they can conceivably get in the draft.

Get a FA receiver. Draft Trask, Lance or Jones at QB at #15. Have another good draft(I think last year's draft was really good). And I think the future could be bright.

Digging these signings and the trades we’ve made. Our o-line of Wynn-Onwenu-Andrews-Mason-Brown is pretty elite, and we’re filling holes all over the field with these signings. Also moved up in the draft with the Cannon deal.

Feel like our RBs will have a big year!
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)

SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

TP for the mention of the Cannon deal. That deal was sneaky good. Bill gained $6.5 million in cap space(which pays for 3/4 of Jonnu Smith's guaranteed deal). And moved up 9-11 spots in the 4th, 5th and 7th rounds.

Also, Cannon was in Bill's doghouse for the way he handled himself with Covid over the last year. It should be noted the problem was not over the decision to opt out last year, but was over not reporting to the team for mandatory meets that all the other opt out players did do.

Yeah, feel like Bill was not very pleased with him. Plus, he was a very highly paid guy for what would be basically a back-up tackle, given Wynn's emergence and Brown's return.

The #Patriots are expected to sign #Raiders WR Nelson Agholor, source said. They are close to a deal. They get their pass-catcher on a busy day.

Cherry on the top of a sundae after a very good day for Pats.

Get a QB in the first round. Let him learn for a year. Have another good draft and 2022 and beyond is looking very promising.

I still hope we can nab another WR (Curtis Samuel), but yeah, very happy.

Added a Pro-Bowl level edge setter / pass rusher, a good versatile TE and some solid depth at DB and DT, as well as a 700 yard & 6 TD receiver. Good stuff.

I could see us either picking Jones at 15 or moving up to take Lance in the 8-12 range (BB seems to like dual-threat QBs now), and that would be great. Pretty optimistic!

Agholor was actually a 900 yard receiver with 8 TDs that averaged like 18.7 yds/catch.

Yeah, he was great in the Las Vegas system. Carr is a more accurate throw than Cam so I averaged out Agholor's last 4 years, but if it's his LV production that'd be awesome.

Also, we're not done!

The #Patriots aren’t done. They are signing WR Kendrick Bourne, source said. He gets 3-years for $22.5M.

Bourne received for 667 yards last year and 2 touchdowns.

Now throw a healthy Edelman in there with Meyers and Harry and there is the making of a decent receiver core.

Only with a crap QB. Or a rookie, if one beats out Cam for the job.

Why on earth would they resign Cam? I can't think of a stupider decision.
