Not sure if anyone has watched much of USC’s Evan Mobley but I dare say he has some Bill Russell characteristics. Obviously he isn’t a 2.0 no one is or perhaps ever will be but it is eerie how his height and build are almost identical to Russell’s with fluid strides and long legs, not just that but the way he runs the floor with the ball like a guard is something that Russell haters rarely remember and Mobley has similar skills. Although he doesn’t have Russell vertically he does have amazing timing and iq on defense for a young forward and so far what I’ve seen from Mobley he is a team first guy too.

I personally hope he can land in the right situation for him to develop as he looks to be a future cornerstone for one lucky nba team.

Well don’t think Ainge will have to chance to pass on him, as most mocks have Mobley ranked between 1st and 3rd on their boards.

Haha loved that tommy home bias.

Mobley looks the real deal though, I’d recommend watching USC when you can and seeing what you think of him.

He reminds me more of Arvydas Sabonis with his ability to pass the ball for a big.

There's never gonna be another Bill Russell, let's be real!  He was the ultimate defender and champion at the 5 position.

I was going to say, "Huh, I thought this was a thread about Greg Stiemsma," but a couple others basically beat me to it, LOL.

Gives me some Nate Thurmond vibes. Would be thrilled if we somehow acquire him nonetheless

The winning is not there, Bill Russell won at every level.  Many do not realize this fact.

Great. Let's grab him with the 16th pick.

What's missing is a big guy in the middle who can score and protect the rim. I've heard some mention of trading for Townes, but that will never happen.
I've also heard of still another boring 3P shooter.  The current Celtics remind me of a donut...

Mobley is gonna be an exceptional NBA player if he stays healthy (always a concern with bigs, but do not believe Mobley has an injury history). Definitely will never be as good as Bill Russell, who’s a once in a lifetime legend (alongside Wilt), but he could become a HOFer nonetheless. He’s that good. A comp to Arvydas Sabonis is reasonable (had he played his entire career in the NBA, he would be renowned as one of the top ten, if not top five, centers of all-time).

I would definitely roll the dice with him (he’s virtually guaranteed to be second or first overall) if he could be obtained for Jaylen, especially considering the flexibility we would have with our cap (e.g., enough room to sign Beal and maybe another max in 2023).
