So what do we do if Horford or Kornet get injured? We're relying on a 36 year old and a D-league player to hold down the Center rotation.
Grant at the 5!
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Why the surgery wasn't done after last season is a question you have to ask.
That's two questionable Stevens' moves. The first was letting Gallo play in Italy with bad knees.

I don't think Stevens has any say in that.

As for the timing of Rob's surgery , that's on the doctors, not the GM.

Friend of mine in the sports business said the 2nd surgery was always going to be necessary since they didn't do the full surgery when he hurt it originally.

He also said the surgery could have happened right away after the season or a year or more later. It all depended on how much it affected Williams and if he was willing to work through some pain.

Guess we have our answer on that last part now. I'm not expecting to see Timelord until January at the very earliest.

A January to April season for Rob sounds good to me.  That's around 50 games?   About right for a Rob season.  Playoff healthy.

Stinks to have a player who's so good but so often unavailable. And since this is the Celtics we're talking about, I'm sure there will be plenty of other injuries, most likely to Brogdon, Brown, and/or Smart, so I can't say I'm hyped for this season.

So...should I lower my expectations of the Celtics to be a middling-playoff team this season? The loss of Gallo, Timelord for 8-12 weeks, and Udoka will gravely impact this team. Sigh

We'll be fine....regular season means nothing mostly.....as long as we're at full strength by March
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

Kornet adds nothing of value.

Unless this is the difference between 4th and 5th...

Although, we were road warriors last season, so who knows

So, did the Celtics take their time having Williams' surgery done on purpose, deciding the 50-game, second half of the season scenario you describe was the best long-term plan for player health and team success ?
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce
