in the era of remakes, what do you think was the best?  what do you think was the worst?

Best - I'll start with Dawn of the Dead

Worst - Psycho

Best: The new batman reboot. The Dark Knight is in it's on category of movies for me... especially when compared to Batman and Robin with Clooney and Arnold...

Not sure about the worst. I try to avoid movies with terrible ratings... saves me the trouble of wasting hours of my life.

Become Legendary.

Off the top of my head John Carpenter's The Thing stands out.  the new DotD is a good choice as well.  Cronenberg's The Fly is miles better than the original.

The Haunting was an awful remake.
Burton's Planet of the Apes was forgettable.
That Psycho remake was completely pointless.

Most remakes are blatantly awful, so i don't waste my time watching them.

Spike Lee is remaking Old Boy... I am sure that will be one of the worst movies ever made.

good remake: Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
I know there was a later remake that was bad.
good remake: War of the Worlds, with Tom Cruise
bad remake: Planet of the Apes, with Mark Wahlberg
The Psycho remake was horrible.
DOA 1988 remake was bad.
I like the new Planet of the Apes, but it isn't really a remake.
good remake: King Kong 2005
bad remake: King Kong 1976
I like all the Dead movies, even the bad ones.

I don't know if it's exactly a remake, but I liked DiCaprio's Romeo and Juliet. There as something about it.

The Willy Wonka remake was interesting but didn't cut it.

Hard to top the Batman reboot.

The Star Trek reboot was great even if it sorta trampled on previous Star Trek canon

Roy has argued Magnificant 7 is a remake in which case it probably wins

The new Robin Hood left me very very disappointed

I liked the Godzilla remake

I have to admit I cheated and used this and found the whole list sorta lackluster.

Can you even call King Kong a remake? The two films are just so different in terms of what they could do.

while it is technically a remake, and there are some similarities in the overall storyline, i dont consider this too much of a remake....but it is my fav.  i think the remake is far better than the original.

The Farrelly Brothers are rebooting the 'Three Stooges' and the cast of the 'Jersey Shore' is set to make a cameo.... so ya know, that.

The Magnificent 7 was a B-western remake of one of the greatest movies of all time Seven Samurai by Kurosawa.  It doesn't even compare to the original.

Yul Bryner, Steve McQueen, and Eli Wallach could sit in a trailer and talk about their favorite cereal for 2 hours and it wouldn't be a b movie. Almost forgot Charles Bronson. Shame on me.

Haven't seen it in years but I remember somewhat liking The Point of No Return. Also, are all Robin Hoods re-makes? I like the one with Patrick Bergen and Uma Thurman, though it's not exactly a cinematic masterpiece.

I'm not sure you can count Thor as a remake, but it far surpassed the original in quality.
