Trade ID #5076260

Ray Allen and Tony Allen

for Posey, Mo Pete, Antonio McDaniels, and Julian Wright and N.O. #1 draft choice.

New Orleans laughs?  We take a future first instead?

I think they take that, but it leaves us a pretty big talent void at SG to get a fan favorite ( and personal one) in posey back with a extra year on him and coming off a pretty "meh" bench performance for NO.

To quote Kevin McHale, the team that gets the best player wins the trade.

Keep in mind that Garnett makes players better than they actually are :o

A future hall of fame player for one of the worst contracts in the league and three scrubs; I think I'll pass on this one.

well, despite Kevin's ability in that regard, i'd rather have ray allen, a HOF before he even met KG in the Celtics locker room, than posey and two guys we hope will catch Celtic fever once they are on board.

New Orleans already traded Chandler once, maybe they would do it again.  The combo of Chandler and Perkins at center would be very good and having them both will allow them to rest more during the season and be more aggressive when on the court.

Ray Allen

for

Tyson Chandler and James Posey

if New Orleans wants to dump more salary throw in Brian Scalabrine and Morris Peterson
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

The obvious truth is I don't know if this would be a wise trade or not.  But don't underestimate the future value of pick #21, which could be Blair or Hansbrough.

And don't underestimate what Posey can do for this Celtics team.

If they'd do that it's a better option.  Although I would do the original idea if it included the #1 pick.  I'm having trouble seeing how the Celtics will get a Posey-like player who's as good as Posey without getting Posey himself back.

My original idea was Ray plus a signed Baby for Posey and Chandler and something else that gets it done, but I couldn't check that one.

I hope that's true.  And I hope if someone offers a deal that can't be refused for him that he comes back the year after just the same.

My trade would still leave the Celts short on bigs, so they could trade Antonio McDaniels and/or Mo Pete, let's say Antonio McD.

Trading Scal and Pruitt and not signing Baby, the Celts roster with starters on the left could be:

Rondo, House
Marbury, Mo Pete, House, Giddens
Pierce, Posey, J. Wright, Walker
Garnett, Posey, J. Wright, Blair, (Powe)
Perkins, Pachulia-type, Blair

Could also start Pierce at 2 and Posey at 3.

I'd pass on that one.  I've got a couple of friends who are big Hornets fans.  Chandler is spent.  They wouldve been thrilled to get whatever it was the OKC was offering(Joe Smith and some other stiff) last year.  No need to give up Ray Allen for damaged goods.

I know he was good. But why do so many people have "james posey fever."
He's ridiculously overpayed.
Practice? Whatchu talkin about practice?

Disagree with this.  Length of contract is issue, not dollars per year.  Posey doesn't need to have great stats during the regular season to be of value.  The Posey  that helped us win a championship with defense, leadership and toughness, and unbelieveably clutch 3 point shooting is worth what he makes.

And I firmly believe that his value is enhance playing with Garnett, while no one in New Orleans really did this.
