Simple answer - because the NBA glorifies style over substance.

NBA and all other pro sports leagues?
But, that's better than the college ranks, where all that matters is the money and kickbacks...

I'm not 100% sure MLB or NFL do either. The NFL does to a degree though. There is no reason Ray Lewis should make 3 or 4 times the money of a Tedy Bruschi.
