Gomes. Proven NBA skills. Gaffney. No NBA minutes. Thanks, but I'll take Gomes.

It's not always as simple as that.  What if it takes 4 years/$16 million to lock up Gomes?  What is the longest/biggest contract you are willing to give Gomes?

3 yrs 12 mil, or 4 yrs 14 mil. Nothing more. That puts him through PP's contract. If he earns it we can extend later. If not then it isn't a killer.

NO interest whatsoever at those prices.

I would be willing to go 3 years/4 million (total).

I am only interested in Gomes coming back as a minimum salary
The bench needs to get longer (taller) not smaller. We need a legit backup at the 2 and 3 that can shoot and spread the floor.
A legit 6'7 SF is small to you?

if he has to play minutes at the 4, yes. I think he is a defensive liability as a 4, and would struggle to get off his shot.

I like him as a 3, but we need more length in the second unit at 4 and 5.

That's about it. The love affair here with him is puzzling, to say the least.

Nostalgia for a limited player who worked hard and was by all accounts a decent guy.

That's not nearly enough to actually sign him.

It would be awesome if the C's could split the mid level between Brad Miller and Ryan Gomes. Give Miller  2 yrs/6mil  and Gomes a  3 yr/9 mil contract.
That is a real possibility. I think Miller will cost around $2 million. Gomes $3-4 million. A little wiggle room on both players costs ... but Danny should be able to, financially, get them both to sign if he wishes to.

Edit: I'm not that interested in this combination myself. Never liked Gomes, too much of a tweener, not a two position player but a player who is stuck between two positions. Not wild about Brad Miller either, too large a decline last season to trust him next season.

I would be happier with someone like Dorell Wright for the same money Gomes would cost. Someone like Johan Petro to take potential Miller's job. Add James Singleton to replace Scalabrine and Josh Powell to replace Shelden Williams. Try to sign Ben Wallace to cover Perk's injured few months and then go back to being a fourth big in the rotation afterwards (otherwise Kwame Brown).

I think Miller's still got more value than that.
I agree.  Miller should command $3-4 mill.  I think even the vet min for a guy with his years is more than $2 mill.  Oh, and Who, I followed you fine until the very end when you brought up Kwame Brown, at which point I felt a little nauseous.

would you like some water and an Alka-Seltzer..

The blog has been amusing these days. Some people think Gomes is not that good. Others -- that we should get Wright and Petro. The fun just never stops.

What about those of us that don't want any of those three?

A very limited player. It's the 24-win Alumni Association at work again. NO interest whatsoever in Ryan Gomes for a dime over the minimum.

Here's the line:

6'7", 240lbs, 28 year old, SF

played 82, 82, and 76 games last 3 years in Minny (healthy)

Averaged right around 12 pts, 5 rebs in 30 minutes over last 3 years. averaged 0.8 steals/game for 3 years (decent production)

37% 3pt shooter, 80% FT shooter

So these all suggest a very solid backup SF of the complementary player variety, and definitely more than a minimum contract.  Good size, good shooting, coming into prime, healthy, consistent...worth a 3 or 4 year contract for half the MLE from someone.

What's wrong with Dorrell Wright?

Poor defensively, numbers put up on a very bad basketball team, which skews his value to a legitimate title contender.

Two words for Ryan Gomes: Not interested.
