It's tough as the Celtics are young at most positions.

Ainge likes guards, but, I never root for a guard pick.

Okoro (Auburn) is about 10th, this would mean to much trading, thus, he must drop.

Maledon (EU) he's around 19th and, shockingly enough, he's a guard.

This draft has a lot of interchangeability in that there's a couple of top guys and the rest are kinda around the same level.

As usual, Romeo is better than any of these guys and the Celtics have more wings than anyone and the bigs in this year's draft are ok...I guess.

Thanks for basketball thread Cfan! TP!

What about Kira Lewis from 'Bama?  Though a Sophomore, just turned 19, same age as most freshmen.

Hollinger very high on him, thinks he deserves to go in lottery.  Just watched some video, he is quite explosive, decent size for PG.  Maybe he's the guy we should select at 17.

I'm really starting to dig this draft.

How come? The way the game has evolved, guards are more important than ever before. If anything, it's the C position that is declining in popularity.

Would love us to trade up for Wiseman. It's highly unlikely that he'll be available at #9, but that's a whole nother story.

Alternatively:

- Trade #17 + #26 + #30 to Phoenix for #10 (Haliburton)
- Trade Kemba + Theis* + Romeo* to Philly for Simmons + Mike Scott
*(or any combo of Theis/Romeo/G-Will/Kanter/Timelord/Semi/Edwards)
- Dump Poirier. Worst case scenario, just cut him.

Smart - Haliburton - Wanamaker
Brown - Edwards
Hayward - Scott - Semi
Tatum - G. Williams
Simmons - Kanter - Timelord

Fill the remaining roster spots via free agency/draft (Nets second rounder).
Giving Philly Kemba & Theis would be such a terrible idea
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)

PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

I'm really starting to dig this draft.

one of the quickest guards of the draft

but skinny and average finisher/through contact

I think best best around 17 to 26 is keep an eye on versatile players like Josh Green, Patrick Williams, Tyler Bey etc..   Strong defenders, able to knock down the 3 with other parts of their games that need growth/refinement.

At 46 if still available I wouldn't mind if the Celts took Mamadi Diakite

Add some depth to the 4 and 5 position

I’d be somewhat surprised if we took a big at that spot (who isn’t a draft & stash) who then went on to make the actual roster. We already have Williams x 2, Theis, Kanter, Ojeleye and sadly Poirier, and I feel like if we keep our first rounders we’ll likely take a big (hopefully my guy Paul Reed).

I was wondering if they are going to be able to test these guys. And if not how many misses there will be, and how unready will the rooks be next year with a potential short summer.

But DA should try to move up. Get a big if possible, by the time he’s ready Walker and Hayward will be gone in a couple years, smart can play pg and would still fit in brown and tatums time line.

I think it could be

17. Josh Green
26. Tyler Bey
30. Aleksej Pokuševski (draft and stash)

Green and Bey are two of the top defenders of the draft.  Pokusevski (per highlights) has shown Porginzis level skills per size.  Draft and stash him

C- Robert Williams/Theis/Kanter
PF- Tatum/Grant Williams
SF- Hayward/Langford/Bey
SG- Brown/Smart/Green/Bey
PG- Walker/Smart/Green

G league
Waters, Edwards, Fall

Adios
Wannamaker, Semi, Javonte Green, Poirier

I like T Bey but after seeing the measurements from the Nike academy this past off-season I'm worried he may not have the size to play his projected 3/4 role on defense. At almost 22 years old He measured 6'6" without shoes 197lbs with a 7' wingspan. To compare J Brown was 6'5.25" wall and 223lbs at 19 years old.

I also really like Green. I see him as a Courtney Lee type wing. He wont be much of an initiator but has decent wing size, can shoot, and will be a good NBA defender. He is a guy who may not have a super high ceiling but I would be comfortable projecting him as a 5th starter / key bench player on really good teams for a long career.

Wonder, if in this scenario, the Hornets would take three firsts this year for Wiseman?

given DAs failed (thank god) attempt in the past to trade up with Hornets for Winslow I'm guessing that's not happening. Also Hornets roster is more in need of consolidation then depth. For the Hornets Wiseman is actually a really nice fit. He would replace Biyombo and push Zeller for starting center spot.

It is now clear to everyone that Charlotte messed up bad not trading with Boton that year.  Frank Kaminsky isn't even on their team any more.  It is possible that with all the perceived parody in the daft MJ might be afraid to get flamed again for blowing such a generous offer.     I'd give up 17, 30 and next years 1st.  I'd throw in Edwards and Ojeleye, maybe even a third player.  I take Wiseman at 9 then Jalen Smith at 26.  I think that would make for a killer starting five in a year or two, and go a long way to improving our size issues.
PG Kemba   6'0, w/ 6'4 Wingspan
SG Brown    6'6, w/ 7'0 Wingspan
SF Tatum    6'8, w/ 6'11 Wingspan
PF Smith     6'10, w/ 7'1.5 Wingspan
C  Wiseman 7'1, w/ 7'6 Wingspan

All really unlikely as I believe GSW take wiseman #1, or at least I think they should.  I see a lot of PG/SG love on these mocks for players that don't really distinguish themselves from each other and I just can't believe a unique talent like Wiseman drops to 9.  I see anti Wiseman sentiment on various posts around this blog and I don't get it.

Golden State having a high pick this year reminds me of when the Spurs landed Duncan.  There were coming off a three season run where they won 59, 62, and 55 games.  Robinson gets hurt, they only win 20, get Duncan, and the rest is history.

That pick probably goes to a player who is willing to sign a 2-way deal. Tremont was picked #51 last year as did Bol Bol #44, Weatherspoon #49, Brantley #50, Shayok #54, Wright-Forman #53, Guy #55 and Bone #57.

This 2nd round will be interesting because it could be pretty role player deep.

After pick 40 ESPN has players mocked who I have seen talked about as first round and even near lottery picks on other sites

Guards: Flynn, Riller, Mays, Quickley,

Wings/Swing: Bane, Hughes, Stanley,

Bigs: Tillman, Reed, Tillie,

I wouldn't be shocked if the Cs ended up with any combination of those players in the 1st round let along at #46. The issue might be getting them to agree to a 2-way deal. Tillman, Flynn, Riller, Bane, Tillie and Hughes may not have high ceilings they are 6 players who I could see actually contributing off the back of the bench next season.

In terms of fit as a 2-way I really like Immanuel Quickley, he came into Kentucky as a PG but was taken off the ball and really played well as an undersized wing. He is an elite shooter who needs to just round out his game. On a 2-way deal he can be put back at PG in Maine to see if that's a role he may eventually be able to fill. If not a PG he still has enough size (about same size/length as AB) to get by as a bench shooting specialist

TP on the Paul Reed love.

John Hollinger said he was "by far" the most under-rated player in this draft. That he was the best defensive player in the entire draft. Has him ranked 13th (late lottery).  Far better than Precious of Memphis.  If this guy is available late first, we have to take him, no??

Yeah, I love his game. He’s got Siakam-like athleticism and length (he’s a bit less agile than Siakam), but he’s a fantastic rebounder and a menace on defence who I’ve seen defend 1-5 at the college level. I think his defence would earn him minutes instantly here. Learn a few screening lessons from Theis and boom!

TP back at you! Hopefully we can nab him...
