The free throw disparity isn't on the refs. The Celts are a really, really bad team at generating free throws. It is an enormous flaw of this team.
this is a critical flaw IMO. C's have had a number of cold shooting nights this year and do not have any offensive philosophy other than continuing to chuck jumpers instead of working the post or driving to the hoop. either would (should) generate FT attempts that would put points on the board during scoring droughts.
We just don't have guys that want to take the ball to the rim. Brown does it, but he never gets the ball. Smart is good at it too, but he is more often distributing. Smart is especially good at the post ups and that should be a bigger part of our offense.
Most of the other guys are good when they decide that they want to attack the rim. Al, Tatum and even Morris are good attacking the rim, but they RARELY do it. This should be a huge point of interest from the coaching staff. Maybe it is? Sure doesn't show up in games though.
I wouldn't call Morris good at attacking the rim. Occasionally he can get there, but too often he settles - and when he's not hitting (which has pretty much been the case since early January) he becomes next to useless because the ball never moves after it winds up in his hands.
As far as the other guys you've mentioned, I do think it's fair to question the coaching this season. The issue hasn't gone away and it seems like the 'solution' that they're advocating is to keep chucking. Stevens and his staff have certainly done nothing to address the problem. Or maybe they've tried and the players haven't responded.
As a result the only conclusion is that this edition of the Celtics is flawed - probably fatally flawed.
