I saw this thread over at RealGM, and thought it was interesting.  (Hat tip to cfan79 for the idea.)  Who would you put on the city of Boston's "Mount Rushmore of Sports"?  You can select any individual sports figure, from players to GMs to coaches to owners.  You can pick four, and only four, players to make your mountain.

This is harder than it sounds.  I'd probably go with Red, Ted Williams, Brady, and Orr, representing each of the four sports.  It's very difficult, though, leaving either Russell or Larry off.

(Mount Rushmore of Celtics would be Red, Russell, Havlicek, and Bird.  That's fairly easy to me, with apologies to Cowens, McHale, and Pierce.)

Williams, Orr, Brady are easy.  Tough who to pick for basketball, but I would have to go with Red over Russell and Bird.
Celtics fan for life.

Russell, Williams, Bird, Brady.

(I'm not a big hockey guy, but I understand the argument for Orr.)

I agree with picking Red becuase he helped change the NBA when it was in shambles.

  • The good ole days.
Puckett, Garnett, Fran Tarkenton, and maybe Herb Brooks (coach of the "Miracle" USA hockey team).  Three of them never won a championship for the "local" sports team, but woe is life in Minny history...

Oh wait.... I'm confused.

For just the Celtics one, I think Tommy should be in the discussion.

No love for Curt Schilling?  He would be my Red Sox choice.

I agree.  Whether the Celtics are winning championships or perpetually lottery-bound, he cheers them on just the same.  He bleeds green and is the epitomy of Celtics Pride.

He's got more rings...

and led us to the greatest comeback in the history of the sport (over the Yanks none the less) on the heels of an unprecidented surgery that basicly ended his carreer.  Just sayin..

That's true about Schilling, although I don't see how you can pick him over the best hitter of all time, Teddy Ballgame.
