One thing I really respected from the writer is his criticism of teams adding black apparel just to sell more. The Raiders are classic because they have always been those colors, as have the Yankees. But when the Mets (who I love) start wearing black caps or black jerseys, they are abandoning tradition to make a quick buck. I love that they penalize for that.
On the other hand, the writer seems to have an excessive love for hockey.
What makes the Celtics uniform special is that green is a core part of their identity. It makes the uniforms even more special. The ability to also use an alternate logo - the clover - is a bonus. The classic logo is awesome (Red's brother did it, right?) and unchanged, as it should be. It is a confident logo of a team embracing its image with both arms. The shorts might get longer, but you can always identify the Celtics throughout history.
Another thing that makes the Celtics special is that when St Patrick's Day comes and teams try to make money by adding selling and wearing green unis, seeing other teams (Bulls) confuses people because they think they are watching the Celtics. The color green is ours. We own it. The Bucks are just renting.
Celtics Green and Yankee pinstripes are iconic, and perhaps that is mostly due to the tradition of winning. When it comes to the Yankees, I actually always think of the darker single tone grayish unis as classic.
