I don't get it. Why does everyone say that they are happy to have the second year non-guaranteed? We just signed the guy and everyone already sees them as expiring contracts to get rid of.

Because the signings are more valuable as year 2 trade chips than they are as actual players.

TWELVE MILLION A YEAR FOR AMIR JOHNSON BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
He can defend the 5, he can shoot 3s, good strength, long arms, quick, great hustle. Definitely an upgrade over Bass.
Only issue is he is injury prone (ankle).
What exactly is the problem?

Cap went up 9mil and its short term. Dont see anything inherently wrong with it. If we had an established core this would be a great signing. I mean I am the biggest tanker around, but you can't  expect Ainge to just sit on his massive cap space this offseason and trot out complete scrubs.

Had to make sure I wasn't on a Lakers board with all this entitlement and pouting.

My apologies for my excessive reaction.

It's not entirely crazy, especially with only one year guaranteed.

If signing Amir for 12 for one year guaranteed is the alternative to signing Robin Lopez for 4 years / $55 million or something crazy, then I'm OK with it.  Amir makes more sense if he's gonna be the starting center.

Still, it's a let down to see that Amir is probably the big acquisition of the summer, at least until Danny trades some of the redundant guards and power forwards for Danilo Gallinari.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Umm, he made 19 threes all of last year.

What would you do in Ainge's shoes? You're always very dismissive on all the moves we make, but the Sixers and Hinkie could do no wrong. So it'd be nice for you to provide an alternatve, with some actual names.

Edit: I think we can ease up on the accusations of him being a Sixers fan though. He's obviously a Celts fan.

And Danny finally gets Amir after missing out due to the promise he made to draft Orien Greene.

A few years ago, everyone wanted Amir Johnson.

Why all the hate now?? He fills a need, on a very short contract, keeping our flexibility on payroll.

A few years ago, everyone wanted Amir Johnson.

Few years ago I was also excited about Rasheed Wallace and Shaq.
