Looking forward to seeing Yabusele play 4 minutes in a C's blowout win!It should be double that. Hawks just beat the Cavs, So they're going to be satisfied. They're also going to have a system shock going from playing against the worst defense to the best defense in a B2B.

I do not know where they get the energy . just tired thinking of this much travel .
Go Celtics.
Great thread as always FLC! But there is one little correction. It should say 'Monday' instead of 'Tuesday' at the beginning of your post.Fixed!! TP for catching it! Back to backs are tough :)
Let's hope we can carry our mega-momentum to another win!
Oh, the inhumanity! Life is hard sometimes. ::)I do not know where they get the energy . just tired thinking of this much travel .

Yeah, that 90 minute trip on a private plane followed by a night at 5 star hotel sounds absolutely tortuous.
Trap game?
Nahhhhh.. hahahahahahahahahhah!

I vow not to make a single negative comment about Kyrie.I’ll be watching. ;D

Which is why you should be a bigger fan of Kyrie and his Duke education.
36th anniversary of Mike and Tommy broadcasting their first game together for the Celtics. TPs to Mike and Tommy for being the best basketball broadcasting duo ever.
Hmmm, to grade exams or watch the C's stomp the Hawks? Hard choice! ;)Do both! When the Celtics score, award more points. When the Celtics give up points, penalize your students!
Let's go CELTICS!
Revenge Game for Horford
Let’s get some early buckets Jaylen!
Let's go CELTICS!
Revenge Game for Horford
Why does Horford need revenge? He's playing on the #1 team in the East making $30m a year while the Hawks are in the basement.

Ha! For what class?
Just watching the box score, but the game looks. To be pretty ugly so far. :P
Looks like we're taking this team for granted just a bit due to their record. Not a smart gameplan after seeing how that worked out for the Cavs.

I don't like this current lineup.
I'm assuming CBS is encouraging Baynes shooting 3s.

2nd game of back to back and resting Morris. About what I expected. I think we will win, because of CBS, but it will be ugly.
I don't like this current lineup.
Hawks getting some friendly whistles.
Not sure about the Smart + Rozier + Nader + Semi + Theis lineup. Unless you're trying to depress Smart's numbers by not giving him anyone to pass to (in order to make his next season's contract more affordable)
not alot of Hawkers at the game . .....empty seats
Not sure I have the words to adequately describe that quarter.
Furthermore, I have no idea how they leading after 1st.

Dressed up as seats. They still think it's Halloween is Georgia.
That's a foul by Nader, to be fair.
Bazmore with the football block.Thought that was a bad call.
That's a foul by Nader, to be fair.
I didn't see it like that.
I get more frustrated with Rozier than any other Celtic this year.
Gotta stagger Al and Kyrie's minutes so that at least one of them are on the floor at all times.
I just seriously cannot stand Rozier's game. He has flashes, but his overall complete lack of BBIQ I just cannot overcome.

I genuinely think Larkin made this team out of pity.
Rozier playing selfish.

This is the worst our defense has looked all season. This crummy Hawks team is shooting 58%.
How is that a jump ball???
I honestly never thought Schroeder would be this good when he was drafted
The fact the Cs go into halftime tied is like a small victory. They have not played well tonight.

So I don't have a stream for this game, and just got home. Are we playing down to the hawks, or are they playing well?

Hawks are shooting well. Cs look tired on defense, a lot of foul trouble early. Offensively too much 1-on-1 ball.
Have the Celtics had a big deficient in any of games this year except for that 1st game?

Guys, we're the best record in the league on an 8 game winning streak, yet we're playing with four rookies and a four year man out there right now. Crazy stuff.

EDIT: My bad, forgot about Rozier. Still, three rookies and two other rookie level contracts.

Letting them right back in this. Come on, guys, let's put this away.
Games like this are when Irving needs to take kver and prive he's a superstar.
Tatum really has to start letting those threes rain. He's shooting something over 50% from beyond the arc.
Tatum is ice cold!!!!’
I love Tatum!
Money Irving...I'm pushing this nickname. ;D
Great choice DA!
I can’t say that I support finishing the game with Smart and Rozier on the floor, but it’s working out okay.
Great choice DA!
So he is forgiven now by passing on Fultz??
Marcus didn't do nothing
Kyrie getting MVP chants.... in Atlanta!!
Kyrie is lethal. Good move Danny.
Tatum is already a good NBA player. Another good move Danny.

WE JUST WON
9 in a row
nice grind out win
Hawks have a good nucleus....they can benefit from tanking. Need a franchise player
Kyrie still not in prime quite yet! 😁
Good Game!
Hawks shot 50% from three yet we still won. I'll take it.Offense wins in the NBA and in general
IT was incapable of closing games
Kyrie still not in prime quite yet! 😁
Ugly win but I'll take it!
9 in a row!
bud poor sportsmanship....no handshake for brad
Our next 8 games are all vs inferior opponents (aside from OKC and TOR) and the 9th is vs. Golden State. Anyone have the Spaldings to predict a 13 game win streak?
who says Kyrie is not a superstar?
IT was incapable of closing games
not true, IT has bailed the Celtics a bunch of times last season
Horford's line is sick: 15points 10 rebounds 9 assists and a block.#averageAl

I think they’re going to insist that Kyrie has yet to show he’s as good as IT, let alone better. Then throw in the BRK pick, Crowder, Zizic.
IT had 31 games of 30+ points last season. Kyrie has one. He’s an exciting player, and a very good one, but that doesn’t mean we got good value.

Good win but disappointed in lack of defensive intensity. Felt Once Briwn got 2nd early foul his defense really slipped, probably trying to avoid another early foul.
Also some of the guys refuse to swing the ball around much, and we get stuck too much in 2 man ball. Like Baynes but he is often guilty of this shortcoming.

I do believe that Kyrie makes the players around him better - in a way that IT does not. Already we're seeing an improved Horford. Maybe part of it is by necessity, but he and Kyrie combine like they've been playing together for multiple seasons and yet we're just 11 games in. We've also yet to see too how the 'Brad Stevens' effect impacts both players over the long haul.Where are all those loud Kyrie doubters now?

Roy, you're clearly just being stubborn based on preconceived notions. Kyrie isn't being asked to score as much on this as Isaiah was last year. That said, two of the very things you questioned and harped on, defense and passing, Irving has shown to be way better than Thomas was. Agree?
I can't believe Ojeleye is already this useful honestly. It seems like every three he makes is incredibly timely. Teams will have to stop leaving him open.

Lol...with all the Kyrie praise I KNEW it would just be a matter of time b4 you'd come spewing how great IT was and talking down Kyrie. Get over it man, IT is gone! Anyone with brains would start a team with KI over IT at PG - all day, everyday!
Good win but disappointed in lack of defensive intensity. Felt Once Briwn got 2nd early foul his defense really slipped, probably trying to avoid another early foul.Over the course of an 82 game season you're going to get your share of clunkers. It's impossible for any team to give max effort every night. Just doesn't happen in any sport. One sign of a great team is when they still win even when they don't play well. Hawks aren't good but they're well coached, they hustled and shot the ball real well. They'd have been a tough opponent for most NBA teams tonight on the 2nd night of a back to back on the road.
Also some of the guys refuse to swing the ball around much, and we get stuck too much in 2 man ball. Like Baynes but he is often guilty of this shortcoming.

I don't understand how this debate continues, add in Irving's MUCH better defense, and passing and it's no contest. Defense is an important factor in any sport.
Some just can't tolerate being proven wrong.
All I know is we have a team that has the best record in the NBA all while staring two 20-year-olds.

There were two parts of that clause. Defense was only one of them.
IT had a better assist rate and led a much more efficient offense than Kyrie has to date. The “better passer” argument isn’t supported by data.

They're going to insist that they are right until he wins the Celtics a championship. Stubborn.
Roy, you're clearly just being stubborn based on preconceived notions. Kyrie isn't being asked to score as much on this as Isaiah was last year. That said, two of the very things you questioned and harped on, defense and passing, Irving has shown to be way better than Thomas was. Agree?
Nope.
You really don't think irvings defense this year has been better than IT's was all of last year (and the year before that)?
There were two parts of that clause. Defense was only one of them.
IT had a better assist rate and led a much more efficient offense than Kyrie has to date. The “better passer” argument isn’t supported by data.
I was guessing that was what you meant. I am glad you agree on the defense. I don't really have an opinion on the passing part myself

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you hit the ball before it hits the backboard it is a block not a goaltend Correct? Still not understanding the ruling on that second to last play of the game, but then again there were a lot of calls that made zero sense that game.. Still don't know how we pulled that W off with the absolute lackadaisical play in the 1st half. Talk about playing down to your opponents level.
Something I've noticed alot this year, for having elite athleticism and the ability to dunk at will jaylen Brown has been dreadful on layups.. makes no sense lol. And rozier with a -12 +/- to lead the team, he was terrible and no coincidence that we lost the lead every time he went out on the court. The kids got all the tools to at least be an average defender but constantly seeing him pull the ol bull fighter on defense out there to quote Tommy.
I'm confident that brad will get these guys to tighten up a bit and keep the streak rollin!

You replace Kyrie with a healthy IT4 + this lineup... We would not be 9-2...doubt it

IT had an ast% of 32.5 compared to Kyrie's 31.7, a whopping .8 difference. Furthermore, IT did it on a usage % of 34.0 to Kyrie's 28.9, a significant difference of over 5%. When considering respective usages, Kyrie clearly has a better assist rate than IT, making your argument unsound.

Stop being so stubborn with this trade, man. Kyrie has been phenomenal, and we're clearly in the lead with this trade, especially with IT not even planning on stepping onto the floor until 2018. Maybe the Brooklyn pick lands and ends up swinging it toward Cleveland, but from a player standpoint it's not even close.
I don't understand why people romanticize IT's tenure here so much. We were largely scrappy overachievers, but once we get an actual skilled team that is killing the league, all people want to do is romanticize the past. It's amazing.

Assist rate to USG ratio supports it.
Roy and every one else that had questions about the trade, appreciated the heck out of IT, and are going to wait for Kyrie to prove himself in the same manner as he did, don't deserve to be attacked. His points have always been valid, and despite some solid quarters (and tonight), Kyrie does still have a long way to go to warrant that trade. So let's play nice. It's a big sandbox.

Where you saying the same thing after IT's first season here, when people said it was only one season, he is just a sixth Man?
I was. I doubted him all the way, until the first quarter of last year. I was wrong. I am not going to spend this season waiting to believe my eyes with Kyrie.

Kyrie is unstoppable . He can split double teams like few can in this league
IT4 is not at the same level and can be trapped by a smart team. On the flipside the little guy is relentless
Look they are both all star calibre players. But one guy has the extra gear over the other....
You will see realize this sooner than later.

Clearly, it should take a long time and a lot of proven success for a 25 year old 4 time allstar, allstar game MVP, FIBA MVP, Olympic gold medal winner, #1 overall NBA draft pick, 3 time NBA finalist, and one time NBA champion who made the game 7 winning shot to prove himself over the 28 year old 1 time all star, 2nd round draft pick who was coming off the bench for a crappy team just a few years ago. He has everything to prove as opposed to the latter player. This is rational.

IT has a better assist rate.
IT had about 4x as many “secondary assists” as Kyrie, and a significantly higher rate of “potential assists”, as well.
The Celtics scored about 11 more points per 100 possessions with IT as opposed to Kyrie playing. The Celts have dipped from 2nd to 7th in assist rate.
The difference in usage rate is due primarily due to shots taken.
I think you may be the one “romanticizing” here, with a healthy dose of recentcy bias. The team’s passing has been worse and the offense has been worse. There has been a huge improvement on defense, though. Kyrie is part of that, and should get credit. That doesn’t mean he’s been better than IT in other areas, though.

As a diehard Celtics fan, I hope you're right. Playing one quarter per game isn't gonna cut it, though. And he will be exposed defensively when it actually matters, you can take that to the bank. I think Kyrie will end up proving to be the better player, and again, I wouldn't fathom trading Kyrie for IT. But, he has to prove himself here in Boston, without the greatest player of his generation. That takes time.
And thank you. I consider them both Celtic legends in their own right. As a fan, I think it's important to appreciate the contributions of guys like IT and Rondo.
Any empirical stats to back up your assists claims, or is that just pure conjecture based on the eye test?

A long way. A heck of a lot of other players would have, too. And IT carried us farther than the vast majority ever imagined.
A heck of a lot of other players would have hit game winning 3 in Curry’s face in game 7 of the finals . Ok gotcha sir. And IT won 2 playoff series, that’s it , not like he was a 10 time all star or even a 4 time all star.
LeBron James.
Al horford 15/10/9 lol
Puts up almost triple double and no one notices
Not at all. Loved IT from the jump and wanted to see him start ASAP. I can't remember exact comments, but I'm sure my posts will definitely reflect that.
Ogaju: I love me some Tatum.
So you loved IT from the jump, yet Kyrie is playing much better ball than IT did (even to start his first full season), yet you doubt Kyrie?
I get the whole "well we lost the trade angle" (even if I think getting the best player is winning the trade in the NBA, and disagree), but I seriously don't get people arguing IT is a better player.
He isn't.
Not one GM in this league would trade Kyrie for IT straight up.
Yet some here seem to think that is in question.
It isn't.
Kyrie is simply a better player than IT, without question.
I agree that there isn't a single GM that would trade Kyrie for IT straight up. As I GM, I wouldn't fathom it, either. But Kyrie's not the unanimously better player yet. Can he be? Sure. Is he already? It's possible, but he hasn't proven it yet imo.
Where are all those loud Kyrie doubters now?
Seriously.
They're going to insist that they are right until he wins the Celtics a championship. Stubborn.
Are you really arguing this?
IT had an ast% of 32.5 compared to Kyrie's 31.7, a whopping .8 difference. Furthermore, IT did it on a usage % of 34.0 to Kyrie's 28.9, a significant difference of over 5%. When considering respective usages, Kyrie clearly has a better assist rate than IT, making your argument unsound. IT also wasn't playing with a brand new team returning only four players that relies heavily on rookies and young players.

Well, "just a step" and being made to "look silly" don't really add up, brohammer.
But I legitimately just gave Kyrie the benefit of the doubt in every way. They were in two completely different circumstances -- IT carried a team, Kyrie took control in spots + LeBron + Cavs. In reverse roles, I think they would've probably been similarly successfully.
I don't think either side can end up losing this "Who is better?" debate, honestly. Kyrie has way more firepower than IT ever did -- with (begrudging) credit to Ainge, Brown and Tatum have been ridiculously good. But, it was an overpay; BKN could be just as good; their prior roles can't be reversed at this stage.

Lol. When have I ever gone by “pure conjecture”?
The stats are on NBA.com. Unlike some, I tend not to make claims based upon the “eye test”. It’s not reliable, as your above conjecture about Kyrie’s hockey assists and potential assists shows.

You guys keep going over the advanced stats and arguing about IT and I'll just keep enjoying our team clicking on a level I haven't seen since Decemeber 2009.eh. A lot of that is a product of the schedule.
Let's just keep in mind that 99.9% of all NBA players and point guards will never accomplish a season like IT had last year.
But that doesn't change the fact that Kyrie is a better playoff performer, and is more likely to get us to banner 18 which is our ultimate goal.
I respect your right to your opinion, but lol.
That opinion goin' to look really silly real quick.
It is clear Kyrie is just a step above.
I don't agree. Much like with Davis, when a transcendent talent becomes available you get it done.
I think he's great, but not transcendent (same with IT). Big Mo broke this down in another thread recently. The last 6'2" transcendent talent, best player on a championship team, was...?
You can disagree all you want. I'm still going to give you a TP.
Lol this is a joke, right?
Steph is 6' 3", same height as Irving.
I really, really hope you are just playing something.
That was just two years ago, lol...come on bruh.
Nailed it, TP. Steph Curry - literally the greatest shooter of all time. On the greatest team of all-time (until last year); without Draymond, an injured Curry, and a league that benefited a LOT from the Cavs winning.
Lol I am out, but you sure have a bone to pick.
Sit back and enjoy the ride. Kyrie is transcendent, and this will be proven.
You thought IT was nice under Brad? Well, wait until you see how he cooks with Kyrie.
Lol like dealing with the "IT is a 6th man" crowd all over again.
And what is the win loss record for Lebron this year? ;DRoy and every one else that had questions about the trade, appreciated the heck out of IT, and are going to wait for Kyrie to prove himself in the same manner as he did, don't deserve to be attacked. His points have always been valid, and despite some solid quarters (and tonight), Kyrie does still have a long way to go to warrant that trade. So let's play nice. It's a big sandbox.
A long way?
He has made it to the finals 3 times and has won a ring
LeBron James.
Roy and every one else that had questions about the trade, appreciated the heck out of IT, and are going to wait for Kyrie to prove himself in the same manner as he did, don't deserve to be attacked. By my definition of the word, "transcendent" means we will make the Finals and come close to winning a championship this year. That's what a transcendent player does, but you must believe otherwise. So, unless that happens... you're up craps creek with that stance, imo.
No idea why you keep bringing up the IT + 6th man thing. Completely irrelevant. I was probably more pro-IT than you were at the time.

Basically my thoughts right now. Our best wins were against the Bucks (4-5 record) who we lost against earlier in the year, and the Thunder (4-5 as well) a team with major firepower but still has a lot of gelling to do. Beyond that we've beaten lottery teams, the 76ers, and the Spurs/Heat minus their best players.

They beat Milwaukee which is a solid win and they beat OKC which is an awesome win, but other than that they beat New York, Philly, Atlanta, Miami(sans Whiteside), San Antonio(san Kawhi, Parker, and Manu), Orlando(with no point gaurd), and the ****ing Kings.
They are really gelling and playing great, but the idea that this is the best theyve played or gelled since 09 seems like a huge stretch.
Roy and every one else that had questions about the trade, appreciated the heck out of IT, and are going to wait for Kyrie to prove himself in the same manner as he did, don't deserve to be attacked. You logic just isn't tracking.
Not to mention, the point I am making about IT, is that I see you, as you saw those who constantly said IT was nothing but a 6th man, or high scorer on a bad team.
Trying to give you some perspective.

It’s an interesting debate, actually.
Is Carmelo transcendant? How about Harden? CP3?
Something separates those players with the LeBrons, Kobes, Jordans etc.
You can be a hall-of-famer and not be a transcendant player, IMO.
I also think you can be a transcendant talent but not a transcendant player (I’m looking at you, Anthony Davis!).
Nope. I was. I doubted him all the way, until the first quarter of last year. I was wrong. I am not going to spend this season waiting to believe my eyes with Kyrie.
I respect your right to your opinion, but lol.
That opinion goin' to look really silly real quick.
It is clear Kyrie is just a step above.
Lebron James wasnt until 2011 at age 26?
Michael Jordan didnt even hit that status till 27.
Shaq didnt get there till he was 27 either!
And you expect Kyrie's career to be as successful as theirs? Pretty wild. And he is in literally the perfect situation to make that happen for the peak of his career, if he chooses.
Al horford 15/10/9 lol
Puts up almost triple double and no one notices
Good win but disappointed in lack of defensive intensity. Felt Once Briwn got 2nd early foul his defense really slipped, probably trying to avoid another early foul.
Also some of the guys refuse to swing the ball around much, and we get stuck too much in 2 man ball. Like Baynes but he is often guilty of this shortcoming.
I find it humorous when posters can see our defensive identity there that was AWOL for the past year, see our far superior net rating, see us easily dispose of inferior basketball teams, and yet still faun after what we had in previous years. This team has improved. With Hayward available this team would have drastically improved.Hard to disagree with this
The one and only thing you could be upset about is trading away that Brooklyn pick, which is currently, what? Pick 11 or 12?
I'll be one that says I wasn't a huge fan of that trade at the time, but I stand converted after a pretty decent sample of watching this team play and how deep they are. The brooklyn pick upset me most. Again, brooklyn aren't playing like a top 4 pick in the draft team right now.

Ok Roy. So which team is better? This year's or last? Is anyone arguing that the team isn’t better defensively?
That doesn’t mean the passing or offense are better, though, either collectively or individually.

QuoteAny empirical stats to back up your assists claims, or is that just pure conjecture based on the eye test?
Lol. When have I ever gone by “pure conjecture”?
The stats are on NBA.com. Unlike some, I tend not to make claims based upon the “eye test”. It’s not reliable, as your above conjecture about Kyrie’s hockey assists and potential assists shows.
