Looking back over the last 10 years, what were some of the worst moments for the Celtics and their fans?

some examples:

"the 5th pick in the 2007 draft goes to..." (turned out fine, but it was a bad moment at the time)

seeing KG clutching his knee on the floor last year

Tony Allen hurting his leg on a dead ball dunk - putting the cherry on top of that craptastic season

what else am I forgetting (or repressing)?
Faith and Sports - an essay by Jeff Clark

"Know what I pray for? The strength to change what I can, the inability to accept what I can't, and the incapacity to tell the difference." - Calvin (Bill Watterson)

The Joe Johnson trade

Realizing Gerald Green was never going to fulfill his perceived potential.

Not to nitpick, but didn't KG just hop off the court when he hurt his knee?  I don't think he ever went down.

To contribute:

Pierce looking for all the world like he'd blown out his knee in Game 1 of the 08 Finals.

Milwaukee getting the 6th pick in the 07 lottery (since that guaranteed we were 5th).  Never had a sinking feeling like that as a C's fan.

Pretty much every day of the 18 game losing streak in 06-07.

Our blatant tanking the last few games of that year.

Signing Mark Blount to a big contract.

Losing game 4 at home vs. the Nets in the 2002 ECF after that miraculous game 3 comeback to go up 2-1 and appear to take control of that series.

The '07 lottery.

Drafting Joe Forte with Tony Parker and Raul Lopez still on the board.

Trading Joe Johnson.

The series vs. Indiana in 2004.

O'Brien quitting (that turned out okay, but it made me feel depressed when it happened).

I don't know what you were watching, but yet, he absolutely hopped off the court.  He came down from that alley oop hopping on one foot because he hurt his knee.

Ooh...thanks for reminding me about the Joe Johnson deal...definitely the worst moment of the 2000's (all respect to Red, but it was his time).

Don't get me wrong, I love the big 3 and all, glad for 2008, but we were on track to rebuild a solid playoff team through the draft with JJ and PP on the wing.  We traded quite a bit for that improbable 2002 run that we all knew wouldn't last.

Actually, Red had nothing to do with it. It was Chris Wallace' decision. Could have given PHX Kedrick Brown, but preferred to keep him. Dumb as dumb gets.  Most fans and nearly all the media endorsed the grade at the time (got Rogers and Delk), but I hated it from day one.

I also hated: giving up pick 5 for Telfair.

depressingly long losing streak

the lottery

Big Al getting hurt

getting smoked at home in Game 7 vs Indy (and Orlando for that matter - I was ok with them losing, but they got smoked pretty hard)

losing 3 road games to Atlanta in `08 first round was pretty tough to sit through at the time

Red's death and the ensuing suckage of a season

DJ's death

Yup

I'll throw TA's idiotic knee injury in there too.  The guy was playing some darn good hoops, and it was fun to watch (him playing well, not the injury).
Yup

Everything Pitino (except when he did a radio interview and callers asked for their money back for his book Success is a Choice)

Red passing, though it was not surprising, was still a huge loss for the franchise.

Losing to the Nets in the 2002 ECF.  After the miraculous game 2 comeback, I really thought we'd get to see a Celtics Lakers finals, but somehow the Nets snuck in the wins.  Didn't help that I've always strongly disliked Kenyon Martin.

Of course, in the end it probably just saved us from being swept by the Lakers.  That would have been worse.

I thought losing to the Magic last year was also pretty bad.  Seeing this team grit it out for so long, you had to wonder if there was just enough in the tank to go all the way, maybe even without KG.  But ultimately it was just too much for any amount of heroics.

For the C's, this has to be #1.
