  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Well not you in particular. You in a royal sense. The royal you. Post them here with a brief idea of what you're getting into.

My first two offerings, and they're both about Zombies:

1) American Zombie: A very real documentary about the undead in Los Angeles. Directed by Grace Lee, acclaimed director of the Grace Lee project. Funny at times, but also tragic. Really just an expose into a sect of american culture we too often ignore.

2) Fido: Its Stepford Wives meets Dawn of the Dead. Really funny, kinda sad and extremely weird.

3) On the Waterfront.  I guarantee 75% of you haven't seen it, and you're missing out on a great, great, *great* movie.  "I coulda been somebody...  I coulda been a contender..."

4) The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.  John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Western.  Enough said.

I actually own (stole from Netflix) On the Waterfront. My favorite Brando, although I've never seen his Streetcar

I actually just discovered that one on Comcast's free On Demand movies.  I watched enough to make me want to see the rest some time.

I'm going to throw Star Chamber out there.  I haven't seen it in years, but I used to have it on tape and watched it a bunch.  It's a conspiracy movie in the Paralax View ilk with Michael Douglas in it.
Yup

I will always like "The Fugitive"made in 1993,with Harrison Ford, based on the 1960's tv version of the series Fugitives with David Jannsen.I remember the series also, which was great in those days. The movie was originally made i think in the 60's but the remake was even better in '93.

I just saw "Silver Streak" with Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. What a great movie and it has a little bit of everything. That is, action, romance, mystery and how can you go wrong with these two great actors.

YEAH! I totally agree! I think I caught that flick on free movies on demand and loved it.

Add Bomb the System to this list. It's a movie about the world of grafitti tagging. I know it doesn't sound good but it is.

On the Waterfront is outstanding, good call Roy.

I'll nominate a few:

My Left Foot, In the Name of the Father - Daniel Day-Lewis at his very best.

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me - Prequel to the outstanding TV series, chilling.

The Wind That Shakes the Barley - Based on a true story, very moving and brilliant.

Underrated movies which many of you wont have seen.

Rounders, Closer, Brick, Dead Man Walking, Hero, Serpico, 12 Angry Men.

I'm a fan of a lot of classics that few have seen.

Philadelphia Story:
Carey Grant, Katherine Hepburn, Jimmy Stewart - brilliant dialogue all around.

To Have & Have Not: Bogart & Bacall doing Hemingway, good stuff

basically you can't go wrong with anything with Grant, Bogart, Katherine or Audrey Hepburn

Also, any of the Marx Bros. movies

oh yeah, and if you still haven't seen Casablanca or Citizen Kane, stop whatever you are doing and put it at the top of your Netflix cue right now

For those who like courtroom-oriented movies, a couple that you may have missed:

* The Verdict -- Paul Newman at his best.

* ... And Justice For All -- "You're out of order! You're out of order! The whole trial is out of order! They're out of order!"  Al Pacino is great here.

See...  I love classics, but I am firmly of the opinion that Citizen Kane is, by far, the most overrated film of all time.  It's amazing, from a *technical* standpoint.  In terms of story, though?  I just didn't find it all that compelling.  I could literally think of 500+ movies I like better.

Casablanca is a great flick, if just for the coolness factor.

Last of the Mohicans

If you haven't seen it you won't be disappointed.

Once Were Warriors

New Zealand film that feels very real.

So wait, is this a list of movies I haven't seen that I probably should have?

Never saw any of the recent Star Wars movies (and I was probably the only kid in America at the time who didn't see the original Star Wars until after I saw the Empire Strikes Back)

Yup
