This seems like it could come back to bite him.

How so? Worst case scenario he just re-signs with the Kings

A lot of cap space out there; probably good timing on his part.

Knicks consolation prize.

Why in Lord's name, would you decline $25.1 million dollars?

He might be able to sign a long term deal with financial security but do you think anyone is going to pay him $25 million for this coming season?

This is very much a risk on Barnes part. He is probably thinking he can get a max or near max deal, but there is a ton of evidence out there that he has reached his ceiling and might only be valued as a $13-18 million a year type player. If he gets passed over for big money, he may have just given away $10-13 million.

But there are enough incompetent teams out there with cap space so he might land a huge deal. If I was a fan of a team that gives Barnes a giant contract, I would be very upset.

I wonder if he has Nerlens Noel's old agent? 😆

This sounds like the same reasoning that Horford used.  He is not going to get more per year than the current $25M but he probably can get 3 years at maybe $18?  Plus he gets out of SAC if he wants to.  I think it is actually less risk than playing out the final year and risking injury or performance decline.

You can come up with good or bad examples but do you think IT is wishing he had extended somehow over playing out his contract?  Sure, if you play great and are healthy, you can max $$ but Barnes can also lock up say $50M-$60M or maybe more, guaranteed, just like Horford.

LOL them signing a FA like Barnes who plays Kuzma's AND LBJ's position (4/3) would be hilarious.
