Poor Philly... if only there was some way they could have known Embiid would get injured.

I want them to fail, I have since the tank began.

Embiid is an enourmous injury risk of the likes of Brandon Roy and Greg Oden. That said, the payoff if he does manage to stay healthy justifies spending the 3rd pick. He is a truly transcendent talent.

The tear is a low-grade tear and is not expected to require surgical intervention.

Definitely not great news for a guy with injury concerns, but while the thread subject is technically accurate, it off as more serious than it seems to actually be.  A "low grade tear that doesn't require surgery" is essentially a sprain.

Sad, but I'm not in the least bit surprised.  He and the 76ers are fighting an uphill battle.

Nothing sad about it. This is a minor injury that can happen to any player, and at this stage of the season for the Sixers and for Embiid, both can benefit for some time off. Embiid has been exceptional in his first season, and his foot has held up really well. It is good for him to get some extended rest over the all-star break period. For the Sixers, they of course will be glad to tack on some losses for pick purposes, but they can also use the opening to feature Noel and Okafor and Saric more.

Come on.  He has played in like 20 games with minutes restrictions.

Did he suffer any setbacks in his foot? No. Thus, it has held up well, especially for a guy who hadnt played in 2 years. Its a bit sad how some people want to hate on Embiid no matter what because he's a Sixer.

I am a pretty huge supporter of embiid ( was advocating him as Ann all star a few weeks ago) but you are being a bit overly defensive here. Playing for a team that has chronically mismanaged how they announced injuries (see Bayless  and Simmons this year) it is pretty justifiable for people to freak out when a guy that missed 2 years of basketball to miss something like 11 games straight with a leg injury. It will be like this for at least a few years.

End result is Philly needs to always carry an additional center on the roster, as insurance for Embiid getting injured both short team and long term. His medical history is not good.

I hate to say...because of this, I have a feeling they'll re-sign Noel, even though he'll be a backup center.

Sprains heal. Meniscal tears do not. And anything happening inside the knee joint means that there is likely damage to other cartilage, which doesn't recover either. This is not an innocuous injury, particularly for someone that big.

I wouldn't be surprised if the next thing we hear is that he's been shut down for the rest of the year, for "minor surgery to clean it up."

Embiid is being treated for a bone bruise from hyperextending his knee in the Blazers game a few weeks ago.  The minor meniscus tear showed up in a follow-on MRI but by itself apparently wouldn't be keeping him from playing.
