For some reason i Loved Lucerna
I loved All the Alps area in spain frontier with france too

Not to be picky as my knowledge on American geography is quite limited too, but the mountains between Spain and France are the Pyrinees. The Alps are in Central Europe (France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria)

I had a really great time in Cartegena for a friends wedding years ago.

Other favorites: Grand Canyon, San Francisco (and wine country), and Vinalhaven, Maine.

Heading overseas to Scotland for the first time this summer.

Worst:  Charlotte, NC...went to visit friends there a few times...Not much going on there.
Yup

Best: Rio de Janeiro, probably the most beautiful place I've ever been.  Weather was gorgeous despite my going during their winter, and beautiful women in abuncdance  ;D.  People were also really friendly, inspired me to try and learn portuguese.  nearly everywhere you look is either water or mountains.

Worst: New Haven Connecticut, went to school there, yea.

Worst Place: Naples, Italy. Someone once described it to me as a snaphot of the Bronx in the late 70's...Very sketchy place, felt very unsafe. Awesome pizza though--Neopolitan style pizza is a crust that has no yeast, but self rises through "good" bacteria--that fact + the water in Naples gives it it's unique flavor, along with the fact that their fresh cheeses are amazing. Just sayin'.

Rome is good and bad--also a very sketchy place, but is a huge city, much like Paris, that takes weeks to truly explore

Arcadia, Florida. Had to travel through there when I lived in Sarasota. It was the worst place ever to break down in a very creepy "Deliverance" type of way.

Best Places: Paris!! A truly magical city with so much history, culture and almost too big to explore. The public transportation is fantastic making it fun to get from point a to b.

London. Not as magical to me as Paris, but equally large and great to explore on foot and by the tube. WAAAY too expensive for us on the US Dollar, though.

Puerto Morelos, Mexico. A sleepy town 25 minutes outside of Cancun on the Yucatan Peninsula. Not too touristy, amazing beaches, good indigenous food that won't make you sick and is very close to Chichen Itza.

Portland, Maine. Amazing restaurants, small city, ocean views, lots of history, great music & art scene and a wonderful place to live (lived there for 15 years before moving to Boston)

Can't count Boston, as I feel a bit biased.

This is an interesting thread, but I am sure most people are just posting all the places they have been to - still interesting, though.

In Europe, my favorite place is Madrid. It is everything Paris is without the attitude. It is a vibrant, cultural city with a great subway, as well as being very pedestrian. I could easily see myself living there. London and Paris are probably 2nd or 3rd.

In North America, it's hard not to vote for Manhattan, but a less obvious place that I really enjoy (especially in the summer) is Montreal - it's a little gritty, but I love that you just have to drive a few hours to feel like you are in Europe. I also think that DC, Vegas, and Florida (from Orlando down) are great places.

The worst is probably Tijuana - I just felt really unsafe, the police made us empty my pockets on the streets for no reason, and we didn't even need to show anybody id to walk in - weird. I am also not crazy about Alabama, the cities of Connecticut (Bridgeport, Hartford, and New Haven) or Cincinnati.

Best place isn't available anymore as it was Aruba circa 1978.  There were about 4 hotels/casinos on the island at that time and it was beautiful, non-touristy and inexpensive. The native Arubans were fantastic -- bright, English-speaking (and French), and exploring the island was facinating. Haven't been since, but I know it's much busier now.

Worst:  Tacoma, Washington.  I went there on a business trip for a company I worked for in the early 80's.  I kept hearing how beautiful 'The Mountain' is (Mount Ranier).  But, in 7 seven days, the gray that settles over the area never lifted, and I never once was able to see 'The Mountain'.  And I don't think seeing would have really made a difference.

The Museum of Glass in Tacoma is a real gem. Of course, it wasn't around in the early 80s, so you couldn't have seen it.

Other than David Bowie opening the Tacoma Dome, there's probably not much else going for Tacoma in the 80s.

Oh wow! I didn't know Roy was from the area? Portland is such a relaxed, approachable city that is so easy...driving, parking, walking, eating, drinking--you just don't have to worry about much. It's hip and lives up to the hype--small town with big city feel. I first moved there for college in the early 90's and it was a much different place--way before it hit the "Top City to Live" lists from various publications that its known for now. There were actually more bars, less contrived Irish Pub garbage, and lots of places to see live music. A lot of B-list bands trekked through there and you were able to see them in the most intimate settings you could think of. Ahhh, the good ole days!

There is a state park in eastern Pennsylvania called Ricketts Glen. It has Y formed by the two stream. If you are willing to make the complete trip of 7 miles there are 22 waterfalls unblemished by man. At night you can stay in the campground next to the lake and enjoy the peace of the mountains.

worst place-anyplace where there is someone trying to get money out of you every second of the day.

Best Places,

Innsbruck Austria. Picture perfect city surrounded by the alps..amazing and the train ride from Zurich to Innsbruck was just as amazing.

Basle and Zurich Switzerland were beautiful as well. Some of the best food I have ever had

Warsaw, Krakow, Wroclaw are all beautiful and it is amazing to see thousands of people walking about at midnight, Christmas time in downtown Warsaw and none appear to be frozen like I was after 10 seconds! Remember, Warsaw is Commonly incorrectly known as Warsaw. Phonetically, this is pronounced Varshava. and good luck saying the correct prounouciation of Wroclaw...it is Frotswaf

Venice, Italy but not in the touristy places- the off the beaten path places are amazing and if you know the local, amazing eateries, you will feel like you died and went to heaven when you experience the food and wine.

Dubrovnik, Croatia- amazing fortress city that you can actually walk on top of. The harsh reality of the war is still visible though on outskirts but the city is breathtaking nonetheless

Bermuda- Hard to complain about colorful homes and pink sandy beaches. People were very friendly- You know the people are great when you cab driver takes you to a local bar and you discover how great a few Dark And Stormy(Dark Rum and Ginger Beer..yummy) drinks are and then he later invites you to a party at a club with his friends.

Hawaii.. To me it was Bermuda on steroids...walking near a volcano, miles of incredible beaches, favorite isolated island is Kauai- Hard to complain on that trip on any island we visited

Live in Wine Country, CA..not a bad place to call home for the past few years..very picturesque, almost like an Italian town with wineries everywhere. When you can walk to a winery from your home, life is good

Vegas for first 24 hours

La Jolla, Santa Monica near Montana Street, San Fran, Laguna, Santa Barbara are all great beach towns..for Rustic, quaint gems..try Northern California drive along pacific coast up to Mendocino....amazing drive..amazing, quaint, beautiful town in the middle of nowhere...pine trees, sand and ocean are a great combination too!

Montreal, Canada is a very beautiful, clean city. I loved all visits to that city when I was a teenager

Worst Places,

Was not crazy about the suburbs of PA- Those toll roads should be outlawed! If you drive without GPS, you will get lost..guaranteed

Vegas after the first 24 hours are over

The drive from Dallas Texas to El Paso...OMG...get ready to not see one food place for hours and hours with nothing to view on a flat road that makes you think you have literally gone to Hell! That was a brutal drive during my cross country journey. Keeping your eyes open is close to impossible on that drive. When you get to NM border, you will never be so happy to see a mountain

El Paso, TX...avoid it at all costs...should have never stayed a night there on my journey across the United States...the best thing was leaving

Detroit, Michigan..my sister lives there and despite that, it is not a place I want to visit again..ever! Escaping over the border was nice though to Canada- The people were nice in Detroit though just not my cup of tea

Mayan Ruins on Yucatan Peninsula was not the best experience ever..even with mosquito spray we literally got attacked by thousands of monster flies and mosquitoes..Imagine covering yourself in honey and then walking into a bee farm..Get the picture?

One of the best places surprisingly was Minnesota (Minneapolis). The Mall of America is Sick! and there downtown area isn't too bad also.

Hollywood (Los Angeles, Culver City, Santa Monica etc...) I love being in Cali, just too darn expensive. If you ever make it out ther hit up a outdoor club called "SkyBar"  :o I believe its on Sunset Blvd.

New York City!!!! :-* whats to be said? lol Love it all (countless cab drivers, sirens, crowded streets and even the funk of the air) lol
