I thought this was a thread about Mr. Hobbs!

I'll go with Mayo.  Not sure why, I just think he could be ridiculous if he clicks in the NBA.

I think it'll ultimately be between Beasley and Mayo, with Beasley getting the slight edge based on name value and team record. Then Oden will fall in place right behind those two.

this rookie class is impressive

which team they play for will make a difference as well. oden will be good, but the blazers have such talent that he probably wont get the numbers as rose or others might.

I'm going on OJ Mayo, mostly because of his dunk from last week. Thats the kind of thought I put into these polls.

Mayo... he's going to be running free with Conley and Gay in Memphis.  Beasley will defer to Wade and Marion.  Oden/Bayless have too much talent around them.  Rose will struggle as most 1st year points do.  Don't see many others that will contend.

Please make a note of it: I flatly predict O.J. Mayo will be a big nothing in the NBA.  If I'm wrong, feel free to taunt away.

OJ Mayo. Combination of his all around game and the major minutes he'll get on a bad team.

Give me at least three months on the Mayo prediction/taunting.  We'll need to work our way past the inconsequential, but limited number of crapola highlight dunks they'll show us on ESPN, and then through some of the fumbling around media stories where coaches and colleagues will start making excuses for him.  I figure around about January, Memphis officials will announce Mayo has a slight stress fracture, and will need to curtail his minutes. Meanwhile, they'll be burning up cell phones trying to trade the guy away.

I'm rooting for Oden to get it, so I'll go with him. (Him being 47 years old gives him the experience advantage)

Its Beasley's to lose just like it was Durant's to lose last season. Scorers always prosper, and Beasley is better than Mayo at "gettin buckets"

Oden.   he will get a lot of credit (probably deserving credit) of turning Portland into a solid playoff team, possible vying for a top 4 seed.

His presence will allow Roy and Aldridge to take a big step in their development.

p.s.  I to thought this was about Roy Hobbs.

I'm just not a fan of Oden being a rookie. >:( My vote is for Rose. He'll have the ball in his hands a lot.

I don't think Portland even sniffs a top 4 seed, personally.  I think those will be locked up by LA, New Orleans, San Antonio, and Utah again.  I could see Portland stealing a playoff spot from Denver, but I think they're another year away from passing Houston, Phoenix, or Dallas.

I think Oden will get plenty of credit (assuming this guy stays healthy, I just have a bad feeling that he never will) for getting them to 50 wins, but I think ROY has come down to numbers and I don't see Oden putting up too eye-opening numbers.

Why?  He hasn't played in the NBA yet.  He would be only finished his sophomore season.

I'm gonna say if the Blazers make the playoffs, its Oden, if they don't its Mayo

I don't think Beasley will start in Miami... could be wrong, but just seems like the kind of thing Miami would do

I'm not sure Rose will "star" in Chicago his first year, he could be a 6th man as well, especially if Hinrich isn't traded, but PR wise, he probably will start

Oden will average a double double, and if his team can make the playoffs, it'll be enough to get him the hardware

Mayo is gonna be explosive and a solid scorer for Memphis.  Unfortunately they'll probably win 20 games.

i voted for mayo, simply bc he is in the best situation to put up decent numbers.  most times, it isnt about the impact or contributions that a rookie makes, as much as it is usually about the individual statistics.  mayo is in the ideal situation for a ROY award bc he will have the ball alot, will get lots of minutes, and lots of shots.

Beasley is gonna start at the 3 and he's going to be so scary to the world.

Mayo's situation isn't the same as Durant's because while the talent around them is very much similar (terrible teams), Durant is just flat out way better.

No brainer! Its going to be Oden in a landslide. He will average 13pts 9rebs & make a major impact on defense which has to be accounted for with 3 blocks a game with many altered. thats why he will win because his D will help Portland into the playoffs while the other rookies who has a outside shot to win the R.O.Y. play zero defense & wont sniff the big show!

Oden dominated the tournament with his left hand.

No contest.

I see Mayo striving for Mike Miller numbers his first season. He's way too reliant on his perimeter shot right now.

Hobbs is no longer a rookie in the league ;)

I think the voting for ROY usually goes to whomever scores the most points. Just look at Durant/Horford. Durant won when Horford was clearly better. Horford even took his team to the playoffs! - and still lost to Durant who's team was absolutely dreadful.

So if Beasley gets enough playing time, he'll probably win it, followed by Oden (who'll be awesome defensively) and maybe Rose, who's also going to score points.

I agree with the previous poster: OJ Mayo will be a bust. He'll put up points which will lead people to think he's a good player, but he will do it inefficiently plus he'll be dreadfull handling the ball - reflected by his Assist to Turnover ratio...
