There is no way the C's can make a trade with Detroit and not get a big man (Drummond/Monroe) back. Ideally, if it were to happen, I'd love to get Drummond. He'd be a perfect rebuild project center. 19, talented with potential, but needs a few years to get there. Unfortunately, I highly doubt the Pistons would want to part with him. I suppose Monroe wouldnt be a bad consolation prize.

The thing is, you never know with Dumars. LOL.

If smith just signed 4 years 54 mil... what's that mean?  13.5 mil a year?

I think they still have like 7 mil in cap space.

So we could actually throw Bass or Lee in there as well.

Detroit Trades:  Knight, Drummond, Stuckey (expiring), Charlie V (expiring)

Boston trades:  Rondo, Wallace, Bass/Lee

Isn't the report for $56M, which would be $14M/year?

I would do that if we do decide to move rondo
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

With them signing Smith we might be able to get one of their bigs now.  I 'd even consider trading Rajon for Drummond.  No way do they need two bigs.

I would want Knight, Drummond, Singler and Caldwell-Pope for Rajon though.

This thread might not have a long lifespan since the Rockets are trying to do a sign-and-trade with the Hawks.

Previously we heard that the Pistons were interested in signing Josh Smith.  Maybe this Rockets thing will put more pressure on them to make a move.

We also know that Detroit has expressed interest in Rondo if he becomes available.

Calderon is bolting for Dallas...

I Believe that leaves the following under contract for the Pistons:

Stuckey (8.5 mil expiring)
Charlie V (8.5 mil expiring)
Jerebko (4.5 this year)
Monroe (4 mil this year)
Brandon Knight (2.7 mil this year)
Drummond (2.5 mil this year)
Singler (1 mil)
English (800k)
Middleton (800k)
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (2.7 mil)

... So as-is, they have like 20 million in cap room.

They could easily sign Josh Smith to a max deal.   But to lure Josh SMith, maybe they should go after Rondo.

Who says no?

Detroit trades:
  Stuckey (8.5 mil expiring), Charlie V (8.5 mil expiring), Knight (2.7 mil), Drummond (2.5 mil) = 22.2

Boston trades:  Rondo (12 mil), Wallace's bad contract (10 mil) = 22 mil.

Do we need to include more?  Would you want to try and dump Bass or Lee as well?  Would we need to include draft picks?

The deal would leave Boston with some young assets to fully embrace the tank.  PG - Knight, SG - Bradley, SF - Green, PF - Whitedude/Sully, C - Drummond.   Drummond has a ton of potential.

Meanwhile, Detroit could roll with Rondo, Caldwell-Pope, Wallace, Smith and Monroe.  Probably a playoff team.
TP for the timing.
It is a relatively fair trade depending on ones assessment of Knight and Drummond and Wallace. I think most Cs fans under appreciate the skills of all 3. The other factor: will Rondo be the same post surgery? If DA were risk averse (he's not), then he'd jump at the deal.
Celtics fan for life.

I guess the thread leader and some of you guys don't realize that Drummond is an untouchable.  Monroe is the guy they will look to trade first, now with the signing of Smith.

The only proposal that makes sense and all parties might be happy with

To Det: Rondo + Melo + Wallace
To Bos: Monroe + Charlie V + Stuckey

Stuckey has been a guy Ainge has had his eye on for several years now. Best thing is Charlie V and Stuckey will come off the books after this year and Monroe is a very nice looking C/PF.

Ainge has stated he wants to be under the tax mark soon. This is def an idea.

They won't trade Drummond.

A trade package likely resembles

Rondo + Wallace to Detroit

Monroe + Villanueva + Knight to Boston (not sure if salary works)

rather have Stuckey. Knight is an undersized sg . poor pg skills

If we trade for Stuckey and Charlie V it's merely because they are expiring contracts.  Both of those guys are garbage.

agree

but if we did

Bos sends: Rondo, Wallace
Det sends: Monroe,Knight , Charlie V(expiring)

1)The C's would have a ton of cap space next year
2) Would pretty much be a lock for a top 5 pick
3)Would have young core/trade chips with Green,Monroe, Knight,Bradley,Sully, Olnyk, 2014 1st rd(if we can't get in the top 5)

We could either land a big free agent with all that cap space , or use our young cheap valuable chips to land a stud.

PIstons fans say Drummond is untouchable, which makes sense to me. He is more of a C than Monroe who is a C/PF and has unbelievable upside. His effort and motor have been questioned a lot in the past, which could end up determining whether he reaches his potential, but you don't trade young talent like that.

I'd do Rondo for Drummond and filler if they were willing to put him on the table (which they won't, but just putting it out there).

Outside of that I'd want Monroe and Knight no exceptions and then add filler to make it work.

I don't understand why anyone would think that Detroit could pry Rondo away for anything less than at least one of their 2 young bigs.

What is Knight's actual trade value right now? It can't be that high. He has had two less than stellar seasons since he has been in the league. I don't think he is even ranked in the top 20  of NBA PGs right now (in my opinion).

What else would they add to the deal? Expiring contracts? They don't own their 2014 first.

Unless they think Knight is about to blossom into a quality starting NBA point guard, they're going to need to add someone if they truly want to be competitive.

They'd be the ones calling to make the offer, I'd expect Danny to only accept their calls that start off with Monroe and then go from there.

I agree. Here's a deal that I came up with which is very similar to yours. I also agree that I think Detroit might be willing to give up Drummond before Monroe. Monroe is more of an established player for a contending team like Detroit while Drummond (talent and all) is still kind of a project, good for a rebuilding team like the Celtics.

Celts get: Rodney Stuckey, Charlie Villanueva (expirings), Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Andre Drummond

Detroit gets: Rondo, Courtney Lee, Brandon Bass, Jordan Crawford and Fab Melo

Yup. However, I could see Detroit doing it because it looks like they are going for it, this year.

For us, it would be great because we get good young players and salary cap relief going into 2014 and 2015.

if drummond is not in it,  danny says no.   people keep claiming he's dealing rondo,  and he might,  but it's going to mean getting back a ton.  danny loves trade rape.
