He's a nice facilitator on offense, but now with Hayward gone, should Danny consider moving him at the deadline, or next summer?

His game would seem to age well, but to me he doesn't move the needle at all.

If we could clear his salary we might be able to make a run at PG13 or Jimmy Butler in the next few years, or even Demarcus Cousins .

Maybe keep him around to be a vet presence for the young guys, then move him at the draft?

If you do this right now, no marquee talent FA is going to want to sign with the Celts

Why?

They are clearly a team on the rise. Why would a talented FA not want to sign with a good coach, and three super talented young players in Irving, Brown, and Tatum.

Al Horford is definitely on the back 9. Maybe the 15th hole. I don't see how a top FA would be impacted by the Celtics trading an aging big man.

No.  Enough change, losing guys.  We need consistency.  Horford provides that.  He's a good counterpoint to Kyrie.

No.

The Anthony Davis scenario (that sort of talent move) is the only one I think we should consider.

More then ever, we need Horford now. He (offensively) and Smart (defensively) are the main 2 players glueing this team now.

I agree - there should only be a couple of exceptions - but we are going to need more out of him than 9 points on 2-7 shooting. Hopefully he will be able to find his spots as Brown probably shouldn't be taking 16 more shots than Horford (even though I loved Brown's aggression).

No way we trade Horford after GH's injury.  Why would DA even think about it.  It would be like forfeiting the season, which we are only 1 game into.  It would also look bad to future FAs we go after.

The best thing we could do is add someone with the injury exception.  Not sure who that would be or if they would even target a SF/Wing or not.

No need to blowup the team. Just let the younger guys play now so they're ready when it counts. I want to see Theis a bit more. His skillset is valuable in my opinion.

I think Horford has already moved the needle quite a bit.  His presence has opened things up and made things easier for a lot of guys.  I think Horford is just as responsible for IT's career year as obviously IT himself, but also just as responsible as Stevens.  It's not a coincidence that we had the best record in the east the first year we had him.  He is unselfish, he's a leader, he plays defense, he sets picks, he passes the ball, he spaces the floor.  He moves the needle a whole lot more than his numbers indicate.

Yeah, I understand how his value translates in areas outside of scoring. Passing, leadership, defense, intangibles, poise, etc. I get it.

But... he's a capable scorer. Can we get like an OCCASIONAL post-up on a weak defender like Love? It seems like Horford looks at facilitation in scenarios where I'd rather he be greedy - pump fake, take it at the dude, get to the rim, rather than settle.

That said, I think his shot will fall more consistently than it did last night.

Why do you think Love is a weak post defender? I don't think Horford has a post game advantage on him at all.

Pretty sure we wouldn't have cap space next year even if we moved Al.

Yup, he has to be moved for a player or just tax relief at this point, which is why we'd only move him in a blockbuster Kyrie/Davis size move.
