Jackie Chan soon could be mentoring a karate kid.

The action hero is in negotiations to star in Columbia's remake of "The Karate Kid." He would take on the role of mentor Mr. Miyagi, made famous by Pat Morita in the original franchise.

Jaden Smith, son of actor Will Smith, would play Miyagi's young protege, a role originally played by Ralph Macchio. The studio also has signed Harald Zwart ("Agent Cody Banks") to direct the picture, which possibly will begin shooting this year in Beijing.

After the good luck it bought us last year, could this be a problem?

Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith.  Is nothing sacred?

Apparently nothing is sacred.

It'll hurt us WL, not going to lie but I think we're safe unless they also remake Rocky.

That is horrible.  Definitely one of those movies that shouldn't be allowed to be remade.

I think this is a conspiracy from those LA Laker fans that run Hollywood.

Who plays the Cobra Kai sensai? or the bratty mean rival?

It seems too soon remake this movie, or senseless, or both.

I'm not happy with this. The first 2 movies still hold up. I'd be happier if they let Ralph Macchio train the new kid.

Or, what the hell, if Sly can make another Rocky movie in his 50's, just let Ralph be the kid again...He can have one last big comeback to the Karate Contest as 30-something.

Yup

I was legitimately angered when I heard about this movie, if I wasn't already too intelligent to miss all Will Smith movies, I would boycott him. Karate Kid is one of my favorite movies of all time, and this will do nothing but tarnish the legend of the original. Will, take your stupid little kid and get him off the screen, let someone who actually has to work for a living, get some screentime,

I hope Will Smith does a catchy song. And I hope they include the origin of Miyagi, I want lots of flashbacks to WWII and him doing karate against the Chinese/Americans. Mayve they can reverse age Jackie Chan like they did for Brad Pitt.

well i hope miyagi is only used in flashbacks because it would be very creepy to see the real mr. miyagi in the remake since he died 3 years ago

edit:  i read it wrong,,,my bad, you said the origin of miyagi,,,tp to you for my stupidity
