Players to Watch

Carsen Edwards has been the star of the Celtics Summer League team so far.  He leads the team with 19 points per game along with 2.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.3 steals.  He is fun to watch and should be in the Celtics regular season rotation this season.
Grant Williams leads the Celtics in +/- in the three games so far.  He has had +21,+20, and +16 in the three games so far.  He is averaging 11.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game.  Above and beyond the stats, he played very good perimeter defense and he was talking all game, getting players in to the right spots.
Tacko Fall has been a fan favorite in Vegas, but more than that, he has been a solid player for the Celtics.  He is averaging 7.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks.  He has changed countless shots and is much quicker than most expected him to be both on defense and getting up and down the floor.  Most Celtics fans are hoping to see him in green this fall.
Javonte Green is an athletic player who has been playing well on both ends of the court.  He is averaging 11.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.3 steals.  He is worth watching and will probably excite the crowd with a dunk or two as well.

Players to Watch

Brandon Clarke was the 21st pick of the Oklahoma Thunder and traded to the Grizzlies on draft night.  Clarke is averaging 13.0 points, 1.5 assists and 6.0 rebounds for the Grizzlies in their 3 Summer League games so far.
Tyler Harvey was the 51st pick in the 2015 draft and played last season for the Memphis Hustle in the G-League.  He was with the Magic for 3.5 years before being traded to the Grizzlies.  He is averaging 13.0 points, 3.0 assists, 2.0 rebounds.
Bruno Caboclo was the 20th pick in the 2014 draft.  He played 3.5 years for the Raptors and half a year for the Kings before joining the Grizzlies last year.  He is averaging 12.5 points, 1.5 assists and 6.0 rebounds.
Yuta Watanabe went undrafted in 2018 and is a 2 way player with the Grizzlies.  He is averaging 13.5 points, 1.5 assists and 5.5 rebounds.

Game Notes
The Celtics enter tournament play as the #1 seed and will face the Memphis Grizzlies for the second straight game.  The Celtics beat the Grizzlies easily 113-87 in their game on Thursday night.  They face each other again by virtue of the Grizzlies landing the #8 seed.

The winner of this game will advance to the semi-finals to face the winner of the Heat (5th seed) vs the Pelicans (4th seed).  On the other side of the bracket,  The #2 seed, Detroit will face 7th seed, Brooklyn and the 3rd seed, Minnesota,  will face 6th seed Dallas.

The Grizzlies were without their top scorer, Yuta Watanabe, in Thursday's game.   The Celtics played their whole complement of players.  This being Summer League,  any of the players on either team may sit out to give other players a chance to show what they can do.  Or,  they both may know their personnel now and may play their best lineups and try to win the game.

Robert Williams is coming off his best game with 16 points (7-9), 16 rebounds and 1 block.   Tacko Fall continued his solid play with 12 points (6-8), 8 rebounds, and 4 blocks.  Grant Williams also continued playing well with 21 points (6-10), 7 rebounds and 1 steal.

Romeo Langford will once again sit out as he rehabs his thumb after off season surgery.  On Friday, the news broke that Tremont Waters' father was found dead in a motel room in Connecticut.  He will likely be with family during this tragedy and his skills will be missed.  We may or may not see Grayson Allen for the Grizzlies after he had a meltdown in Thursday's game and got tossed after 2 techs in 7 seconds.

Keys to the Game
Defense - Defense is always the key to winning.  Both of these teams have been playing good defense.  The Grizzlies are allowing just 73 points per game.  The Celtics need to match their defensive intensity to get a win in this one.

Energy and Effort -  The Celtics need to play with energy and extra effort to get this win.  The Grizzlies are the toughest team they have faced in Summer League so far and they need to play hard from start to finish.  The Grizzlies have an experience advantage and the Celtics will need an effort advantage to counter that.

X-Factor
Experience - The Celtics have mostly rookies and players who have not been in the NBA while the Grizzlies have several players who have been on NBA teams for several years.  Will the Celtics rookies be up to the matchup?

Who Plays
As I said above, some teams may opt to sit their top players for these games, having seen what they can do, and play end of the bench guys to give them a chance to prove themselves one last time.

Will they allow Grayson Allen to play?  I hope not.  They should send that guy home for good.

I hope Tacko puts up like 35 shots.

Put this game away in the 3rd and then unleash Tacko.

How long before Williams gets into Allen’s head?

I want to see more of Edwards, a lot more. Unfortunately for Waters, I’m guessing he’s done until training camp opens to get a better look at him. Now it’s just time to really evaluate Strus and obviously Tacko.

I want to see both Williams’ drop double-doubles before we let Tacko have some fun. Sprinkle in some underhand free throws from Onuaku and some thunder from Green, and this is honestly the most fun summer league I can ever remember, seriously.

I hope it doesn't happen this time, Allen might injure Williams (if he connected with his forearm more accurately last time, Williams could've had a concussion).

That idiot Grayson Allen should be suspended for the rest of summer league. Good place to send a message to that idiot before he gets someone seriously injured or starts a melee.

If this kid ever gets in a melee, he will get injured.   He is a punk, not a tough kid and a spoiled brat that can't regulate his emotions.
