Shaq for Jerome James and Zach Randolph.

Gets more salary off the books by 2010 for NY; Shaq might do better in the more defensive oriented Eastern Conference. Amare moves back to Center and even Randolph looks good playing with Nash; Jerome James is expiring.

Good idea?

Zack and Amare?

Bad trade for Phoenix.

Zack and Amare?

Bad trade for Phoenix.

Why is that? Amare is back to Center, and Randolph is at PF.  Randolph plays further out at the elbow, and Amare is under the basket...

Neither play a lick of defense.  Both need the ball in the same spot.  Both have had micro fracture surgery.

Plus, Randolph is looking more and more like a locker room cancer.

Phoenix shouldn't trade Shaq. Phoenix need a to go through a whole training camp and find out where they are really at. They unraveled in the postseason because they had no time together, from Marion to Shaq is a big change in playing styles, training camp could make the world of difference to them. It's way too early for them to go shopping for change.

That might be true...  My impression was that Shaq didn't play well in the more offense-dominated Western conference.  Where the FG% is higher, it makes sense that a more atrocious free throw shooter will do more damage. Shaq is basically good for defense now, and that's it.

I'm not sure how an offense-oriented system can include a player who would be better utilized as a defensive weapon.  Surely defense is something a TEAM needs to make a commitment to play.  And Nash will never be a great defender.

And I suppose I have seen Randolph playing much more of a mid-range game...

The reason Phoenix traded Marion for Shaq is that they needed a center to play alongside Amare, who flourished as a power forward. Amare cannot play center. Randolph would be a disaster. Plus, Phoenix doesn't want to take on more long term deals. No way Phoenix has any interest in this trade.
Go Celtics.
