Celtics defensive rating by quarter (league rank):

1st: 95.1 (1st)
2nd: 105.8 (6th)
3rd: 104.2 (11th)
4th: 106.4 (10th)

Celtics def rating by Half:

1st: 100.4 (2nd)
2nd: 105.3 (11th)

Celtics defensive rating in clutch time (5-point game, last 5 min.):

116.8 (22nd)

The "clutch time" number is the most worrisome, of course. When things get tough, this team's defense folds. The '17 and '18 versions of this team were incredibly mentally tough. For some reason, this year's team hasn't been.

TP for sharing.

Those stats do shed some light on what's going on.  The Celts have a top ranked defense overall that doesn't feel quite so elite when the game is tight in the 4th quarter.  This proves that that perception is accurate.

hmm....a team that starts slowly on offense and finished poorly on defense. not a good combo.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Great stats.  I agree with the sentiment that the team doesn't seem to be able to shut other teams (and often a particular guy) when it matters most.

I like the pace and love the defensive pressure on the ball. This what's been needed...keep starting Smart and let Brown come off bench.

Great win tonight...everyone played well. This may be the best game defensively, offensively all season. We may have found something with this rotation.

Yeah, I think we've all felt that, right? I'll never forget that '08 team that felt like they could shut down anyone whenever they wanted. As good as this Celtics team has been, statistically, I (and most of us) have very little confidence in their getting stops when they need it.

Is that the result of a solid scheme without the effort of the players behind it?
