Why do some teams play better when their backs are against the wall? This is definitely one of those teams.

Some teams want greatness and some just want to simply win. Regardless of what happens going forward, this team needs to develop that killer instinct.

Many players want to win. A few players need to win.

That need is either inside you or it is not - there is no developing it and I'm not sure we have any of the latter among this current group. A team can learn to play smarter and reduce mistakes that cost games, but these Celtics are apparently incapable of doing even that.

Our core guys are just plain dumb basketball players and it's no wonder we keep blowing up these golden opportunities. Game 4 was such an opportunity, we led most of the way, had several chances to extend the lead, but allowed Golden State to hang around and win in the 4th quarter. Those core players have been making the same mistakes for 6 seasons now.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

The Celtics felt they got a bit too distracted (again) by the officiating tonight. These guys are mentally soft to keep getting thrown off their game by bad calls.

Quote
SAN FRANCISCO -- Ime Udoka made a point of emphasis all season long that the Celtics would not be a team that complains to the officials too much. However, in the team’s biggest game of the year, the Celtics found themselves in several volatile situations with officials.

Boston was whistled for two technical fouls during the team’s 104-94 loss to the Warriors and found themselves in several heated discussions with officials throughout the 48 minutes.

“I think it was a little bit of that throughout the game,” Ime Udoka admitted. “So not necessarily only in the fourth. Probably something we shouldn’t do as much and we all did too much.”

Udoka was whistled for a technical foul at the end of the first quarter after Rob Williams was whistled for a foul with under a second remaining in the frame.

However, the Celtics head coach also was seen having a heated discussion with official Tony Brothers in the fourth quarter who was the target of many Boston complaints throughout Game 5.

“He didn’t like how I pointed at him,” Udoka said of the discussion.

Marcus Smart was also whistled for a technical foul with 9:16 remaining in the fourth quarter shortly after a Klay Thompson 3-point shot that Smart felt he pushed off on beforehand.

“Not our best moment,” Al Horford said of the complaints. “As you guys know, I feel like we’ve been able to fend those things off, especially throughout the Playoffs. For whatever reason tonight I feel like it got to us.”

With the Celtics facing elimination on Game 6 back in Boston, Horford wants to see better focus from his team in looking past what could deemed tough whistles.

“It’s one of those things that we kind of brought it back,” Horford said. “We were able to focus back in, but we can never let that (officiating) get to us. We can’t let that affect our game, the way that things are being played. We feel like we can control a lot of those things. It’s something that we have to move on from and be better on Thursday.”

Ironically we had 31 free throws to the Dubs' 16. Shame we missed 10 of them. Don't think that was the fault of the officials.
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

Oh yeah, Bruce Brown is totally attainable. OG Anunoby is not even remotely available though. I would be totally happy to add Brown.

18-6
22-9

That’s the biggest story.

Sure missed FTs hurt and GSW shot a better % but the 18-6 turnover discrepancy and the 22 points generated off those turnovers is the real killer.

Saw a tweet by StoolGreenie.

C’s had 18 turnovers leading to 22 GSW points and the Celtics missed 10 FTs tonight

They lost by 10

Just brutal

Chocking big time on the biggest stage

I wouldn’t even call it choking. They just lost. They lost their composure. This was probably the only game this series where I felt the difference in Finals experience. Remember that stat where GSW had 100+ games experience and BOS had 0? This game, it showed up.

Now this is GSW's series to lose. Will they blow a 3-2 lead? We got 'em right where we want 'em!  ;)

They blew a 3-1 lead in 2016, after winning 73 games during the regular season too. Could not score the last 3 minutes of that Game 7

Tatum is clearly hurt, pretty badly hurt too, I would say. He’s never been one to show an injury on the court before, so for him to show visible signs of a shoulder injury should tell us he’s pretty darn injured

Tatum 28.2 PPG on 45/39/83 before the shoulder injury, 23.5 PPG on 40/41/77 since. Sucks after he’s been an Ironman for 5 years for this to happen now

Before the start of the game saw Tatum bump shoulders with Grant , he moved gingerly to the bump and seem to wince a tad . This was a bad omen  I felt sorry for Brown , now he is in the Lebron place of having to carry the team with so many injured teammates.

They looked out of sorts , no focused right from the start , Warriors looked ready to take the series to me from the get go.

Game four was the do or die for Boston I think .  Losing that game  rattled them to the core,  They expected win , it was all going their way.

So, I Turned it off and got sleep. Celtics playing in a game they looked beaten and lost.  They looked absolutely ready to loose series and drowning .  Warriors winning that game four pumped them and destroyed the Celtics energy.

I guess they are cooked finally.

Do t worry, they'll talk about spacing and being better and all that will go put the window if they win gm 6.

Idk how else to say it, but the team is legitimately dumb. They are mentally weak and just think they'll win by showing up and trying their best.

You guys ever thing we get Larry gm 6 performance in 1984 from any of these guys at any point?

Let's be real. The searching for fouls rather than looking to score is not a good.sign. They want to be rewarded for effort rather  than results.

Yea they are not mentally sound with the game of basketball.  Especially TAtum.  That they continue to do the same dumb stuff over and over even after being instructed not to, is beyond me.
