C’s have given away 2 games now and are down 3-2. Freakin’ unbelievable.

The fact that Tatum didn’t even get to touch it in the most crucial moments of the game is inexcusable. When Smart caught it, he couldve just kicked it out to Tatum too. He didn’t need to take a floater (even if he didn’t see Jrue) because there was 11 on the clock when he caught it. I would’ve trusted a Tatum iso over a Smart off-balance floater, especially with how Tatum had it going down the stretch.

Can somebody explain what Grant was doing on that box out?

Same thing he did all game long. Nothing.
LOL.  I was hoping for a bit more basketball insight.  The man he was trying to box out, Mathews, I think, moved completely across the key and Grant went all the way with him.  I would think he should just let Mathews go and trust that Al had that side of the rim instead of completely vacating the right side. But, I never played basketball beyond grade school so I don't know if there was something to what he did.

I would expect that boxing out for a free throw would be man to man so I suspect that Grant did the right thing by moving with the player.  It was probably a set by MIL to clear it out for Portis.  It worked.  We still ended up with 2 guys right there with a shot at the ball.  We just didn't get it.  There were many moments in the game where we missed opportunities but that was perhaps the most critical.

Grant was not good.  It appeared that he was not up to the pressure of the moment.  But I don't put that particular moment on him.

The Celtics did not take a single 3 pointer in the 4th quarter.  Not that they didn't make any they literally didn't take a single one.  Incredible.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

One crazy thing:  if White had gotten his layup off 1/10 of a second earlier at the end of the half, we win.

Literally a freakin fingertip cost us the game.

The Celtics gave up at least four three-pointers because someone (usually Tatum, Brown or Grant) was barking at the refs and didn't get back on defense.

One of 2 things: These clowns can't be coached, or Ime is ok with this. Can't be both. How many  close games are we going to lose like this? This is unacceptable.
Still don't believe in Joe.

I cant remember the last time I was as pi$$ed about a loss as tonight

So frustrating

Worst loss of my lifetime watching the C's

2010 Game 7?
2012 Game 7?
2018 Game 7?

Maybe the poster is very young? In any case, 2010 dwarfs this loss by a mile. It was the Finals vs the Lakers and we got screwed by an injury that we couldn't overcome.

The 2021-22 team isn't deep, doesn't close games well, lacks a superior floor general, and has a rookie head coach. It's still better than I expected and a Game 6 win will flip the narrative. If not, there's plenty to be optimistic about going forward.

Wrong. I said worst loss, not most important loss. And no, I'm not young. 2010 was against a better team and could have gone either way. It was heartbreaking but at least it wasn't a giveaway. Not like this.

2018 was a choke but the team was young and undermanned. 2012 it was an old team on its last legs.

This team is probably the best team in the NBA and they gave it away. Biggest game of Tatum's life and the team completely melts down the last 10 minutes,  and especially the last 2 minutes. They win that game and they are championship favorites the next day.

Stuff like that fourth quarter last night really makes me think that this team just isn't ready yet.  Giving up threes because we're too busy whining at the refs.  Failing to box out.  Stagnant iso ball and hard twos.  Poor effort on inbounds plays (according to Udoka, we ended up with that Smart baseline shot because Tatum and Horford never ran the action they were supposed to run for Tatum to get the ball).  Poor effort and no attention to detail whatsoever.

It's frustrating to think that we've let two winnable games slip out of our grasp in this series.  With better execution at the end of those two games, we're resting up for Miami or Philly right now.  Instead we're staring elimination in the face.

If I'm being optimistic, I'd say that all of that is fixable and this team has time on its side (mostly; Horford is the glaring exception to that statement).  But contending years can never be taken for granted, and we've just placed this one in serious jeopardy.
