Can't wait to see what Kyrie and Jaylen do to Lonzo
Usually I don't like big blowouts. Usually.I love blowouts especially against the lakers.

Been seeing these game threads for years, never been this closeTP for the best CB name I've seen in a long time. ;)
Do not let them "steal" this game. I want a home game blowout!

First: I'd like a win by any amount. Second: I want our new guys to play with a contempt for the lakers that lets us all know that Celtics History matters to them.
This is my question. Ball can't stay in front of any of Boston's wings. Whoever he is guarding needs to get some touches. Can't wait to see what Kyrie and Jaylen do to Lonzo
Who does Lonzo Guard? Side bet will Celtics fans yell stuff about Lonzo's brother during the game. They would've back in the old garden. I hope the fans really bring it!

Lakers fans seem to be keen on letting KCP defend Kyrie. That means its Lonzo on Brown. Hope Brown tops his career high!
2nd concussion in a year for Horford. That’s very worrisome beyond this week.Especially when he experienced symptoms for three weeks last time.

I mean we have replays of the play, he gets knocked on the head pretty hard and is clearly shaken up for a moment. Not sure if we have video of the concussion last year, but it probably exists.2nd concussion in a year for Horford. That’s very worrisome beyond this week.
wait so al plays NFL in his spare time? How is he getting concussed??

Think it was Zeller who hit him last year in the workouts, so I think there's no video.

You don’t think NBA teams film every practice session?
I bet it exists. Doubt it ever becomes publicly available, because who would care enough. But I’d be surprised if it weren’t recorded.
Next man up.
Morris probably starts next to Baynes in the frontcourt. That keeps some toughness with IQ.
Morris could easily slide over to center this game. Lopez drifts to the perimeter more and more, and he is a terrible rebounder. Morris has the athleticism to check him outside and help on pick-and-rolls, without giving up too much inside. Bogut and Randle aren't scaring me too much either.
Theis could have a big game as well. Hopefully he is ready to shoot the 3 tonight to stretch the floor for our guards.
I'd give Yabu two burns too, one in the early 2nd quarter and one in the late 3rd quarter. Give him 3 minutes. If he plays well, leave him in for a couple extra minutes. If he misses some defensive rotations, pull him.
Still, everyone needs to step up in their defensive rotations and rebounding.

I don’t really see Morris playing any center. I think Theis will get the backup center minutes, and if need be maybe Yabu because of his bulk. Could be center by committee, but I only see Morris at PF.
Key is defending Lopez. He is their best player. Frankly I see Yabu and Semi as best equipped to guard his 3 point shot, while Baynes best option for defending him inside. Lakers' other shooters are a bit weak from 3, so won't be surprised to see double teams on Lopez in the post.

Yeah, he's going to be so distraught he's going to "uncharacteristically" have a poor shooting performance.
So irritated that Al isn't playing. Lakers of course will give C's trouble and I will agonize.
Hate the Lakers... just hate 'em.
98,506th....or some such crap. dang. oh well, it matters not since the evil and ever pernicious laker scum are about to be pummeled, beaten, berated, besieged, blighted, beaten and generally humiliated.
i predict an epoch defeat for the stinky lakers and their obnoxious pseudo-fans.
death to all things laker!!!!! >:(
oh, and a tp to flc for the fabulous game thread.
goooooooooooooo celtics!!!! ;D

Love when Morris shot goes in
I'm impressed with Morris so far. I was worried he would struggle to fit in while resorting to iso type of offense.same here
This is the best I've seen Ingram play.Celtics seemed scared of the refs tonight after those ridiculous calls and let Ingram do whatever he wants in the paint . He can thank the refs
I'm missing Mike and Tommy. Who are these National TV Game jokers that love the Lakers and Lonzo Ball so much?

Is it just me or does Bogut look exceedingly thin?He looks all kinds of wrong
6 turnovers by Lakers and were only 8 min into the game
How do you like that Celtic defense
This Lakers team looks really, really bad without Lopez. Imagine where they'd be without that trade.
lol Rozier.
Rozier wows you one minute and frustrates you the next.
Best 1st quarter of the season?not really. the celtics missed a herd of wide open shots. honestly, i think they should be up by more points.
Laker really can't defend, or don't care to.
Rozier wows you one minute and frustrates you the next.Roziers prayer was answered on that last shot!!
Laker really can't defend, or don't care to.the lakers are really soft. good!!! ;D
Rozier!!!
Lakers have as many TO’s as we have wins in a row!!
Love watching a team that plays with “balls” and not with one “ball” 😁

CBS NEEDS to tell these rookies to stop the acrobatic shots. Get serious and stop the stylish layups.
That Ball 3 will be the ESPN highlight.
Lonzo Ball is trash.anyone else happy lonzo declined the workout invite ainge gave him? Lol
Trash.
Krie is a bit better at those acrobatic reverse layups than the other guys.
Kyrie Irving is 25 years old... :o

Oh man yeah, he is so good putting the right amount of spin / english on his bank shots so he can avoid blocks...
Way to atone for the mistake Tatum.
Ball is a terrible 1x1 defender
danny is a genius for picking tatum.
fultz?
ball?
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Letting up and show boating a little bit.yeah, the celtics need to play harder. without horford they cant afford to coast.

You could just tell Kyrie was going to jack up a bad shot after Lonzo made that basket.
At least it has not happened that much since he has been here.
lets not settle for tough 3 pointers when we are absolutely destroying them taking the ball to the hoop. lakers cant guard us, literally any of us, when we have been aggressive taking the ball to the rack. just keep doing it.

LOL. I just looked at the replay on that block.
I think Marcus just uttered the B word, in the air, as he blocked that shot.

TP! Good find!
Good Lord, how many questionable calls are going to go the Lakers way? Randle blatantly lowers his shoulder into Smart, but it's somehow a blocking foul?? 15-9 on fouls, and at least half a dozen of those have been very questionable or ticky tack crap.

NO!
He may have been limping... :(
celtics missing hayward and horford, not playing well, and still ahead of lakers.we got this..........chill

Couldn't be more vague
Smart shooting too much. Move the ball.
we are handicapping them three starters now..ugh..tatum 🙁
Given how shorthanded we are maybe I should be happy that we're leading by 7. But I really don't like our play right now.
This is why you step on teams neck and crush them when you have them down. Shame on CBS for not calling timeout to stem the Laker's comeback.

Yeah I want a laker curb stomp as much as the next guy, but with Horford out, Tatum out now, just give us a solid win.

Lakers are gonna win this sad to say. No consistency. Where's the D man.
Smart is stinking it up!
Just goes to show you how much Horford means to the defense. Not even the same without him out there.
Lineup not working well. Smart not gelling with the other starters.
So what happened to Tatum? Been away from the game.
ok, we cannot be beat by being lazy and not getting back.
that is not allowed.
Time out brad. time to yell a bit.

travel at last!

Man, Semi Ojeleye can really defend.
geez, how many open shots are the celtics bricking tonight? :P
where is tatum? where is brown?
Aron Baynes is literally our best player tonight.
crap, i missed that. what happened???geez, how many open shots are the celtics bricking tonight? :P
where is tatum? where is brown?
Tatum is hurt...
You would think this is the time to play Larkin. Rozier, Smart and even Kyrie are out of it tonight.
Aron Baynes is literally our best player tonight.
Smart has been the worst...
Home trap game at its finest.
Home trap game at its finest.
It's not a trap game when you lose two starters due to freak injuries, let alone Hayward.
We need a new one of those Randle vs Smart topics
Jaylen has had butterfingers these last couple of games. Losing his handle a lot.his handles always been awful
Kyrie getting treatment on his knee. Not good.
Kyrie getting treatment on his knee. Not good.Oh god is he out for the game? He hasn’t been playing a lot of minutes either
Kyrie getting treatment on his knee. Not good.
ugh what...?
Lakers playing ok. Celtics not shooting very well....Baynes and Theis leading the charge which is nice but. Do all the good players have to get injured at the same time?sometimes rozier is really stupid.
Riiiinggg
Hi Lakers! This is Danny Ainge. We were wondering if we could maybe add a draft pick or two and trade Marcus Smart for Jordan Clarkso.....hello? Hello?
G league out there
Mark jackson just gave me inspiration for rozier's new nickname. Terry "too much" Rozier, because he's always trying to do way too dam much..
People still want to complain about Smart when he makes those types of winning plays? He's had a terrible night tonight, but you can still ALWAYS count on him in crunch time.
I think Horford may be more valuable to this team than Kyrie.

Agreed. "Average Al" may finally start getting the praise he deserves...

They're fighting us with two rookies and they're also playing yet another one (Hart). Jordan Clarkson has absolutely had his way with us tonight.

Smart has had a bad game. The Three and the rebound were good but he is shooting 2 for 9!
But we have the great Marcus Smart. Surely this shouldn't be so close.People still want to complain about Smart when he makes those types of winning plays? Smart's great. He just can't score every night.Well he can score every once in a while. Plus he's so intense. He very intensely shoots 31%.
If we can get this from Baynes every night, we'll be alright.
Clarkson is a much better player than Ball. The Lakers blew the game by taking him out down the stretch. The Lakers look so much better when they don't have Lonzo running the point. Clarkson is better, and that stretch where they ran everything through Randle was way better.
Last year's team would not win today's game esp w/all the injuries.IT won a few games like this one .
This year's team is more capable.
Baynes is our new Kendrick Perkins 2.0! (w/better offense)ha, just better at everything.
Baynes super good tonight! He so looks like he belongs on tv series Vikings!TP for you I was thinking the same thing lol!!

Clarkson is a much better player than Ball. The Lakers blew the game by taking him out down the stretch.Supposedly he can't play defense but he had twice as many steals as Smart despite 8 less minutes. And he had the same number of rebounds (so far) despite all of Smart's intensity

You can hustle and still play terrible.Smart shifting into that extra gear.Where was that gear the whole rest of the game up till now? It was nowhere. He's very selective with his hustle.
He was hustlin throughout the game, taking charges and tracking lose balls. It was his decision making that was bad early on. WAy to go distort the facts to fit your own narrative.

my jaw dropped when he said that too. 20-25 bone headed plays. This laker team is not smart, with the exception of Ball, they really don't share the ball. If the losses start to pile up, I could see this team just spiraling...

Clarkson shoots significantly better from 3 point land than Smart shoots overall. He's that much better.

my jaw dropped when he said that too. 20-25 bone headed plays. This laker team is not smart, with the exception of Ball, they really don't share the ball. If the losses start to pile up, I could see this team just spiraling...
Let's say Clarkson is playing Smart one on one to 100. Clarkson shoots 51% and Smart shoots 31%. Quick. Who played better defense?Clarkson is a much better player than Ball. The Lakers blew the game by taking him out down the stretch.Supposedly he can't play defense but he had twice as many steals as Smart despite 8 less minutes. And he had the same number of rebounds (so far) despite all of Smart's intensity
Pretty sure Kyrie leads the league in steals so far. By this logic, he's then clearly the best defender in the league. ::)
Only a fool would make the implication that Clarkson is a better defender than Smart.
Clarkson shoots significantly better from 3 point land than Smart shoots overall. He's that much better.
One guy doesn't drag his team down. The other does.
Underrated hero tonight, Marcus Morris. His 18 points were huge for us tonight.
This is why you step on teams neck and crush them when you have them down. Shame on CBS for not calling timeout to stem the Laker's comeback.
Lakers are gonna win this sad to say. No consistency. Where's the D man.

Right!! Almost spit the wine out of mouth! Oh, No Hayward, Tatum, Big Al and Kyrie was seated good portion of second ...lol..20-25 plays fixed vs second string and they could win 😁😁
People are avoiding me on this one, aren't they? The Celts forced more TOs. I give him that. He did well on assists to TOs and he got a block. But Smart is to shooting what Tebow is to throwing a football.Let's say Clarkson is playing Smart one on one to 100. Clarkson shoots 51% and Smart shoots 31%. Quick. You are trying to avoid answering him lol. Getting more steals doesnt mean you are the better defender. Im pretty sure Kyrie Irving isnt the best defender in the NBA.

Had a tough week so far! Wine is my saviour like Baynes tonight! Plus, anytime we olay Lakers is like playoffs to me!
again, your logic....first you talk defense, now you talk offense as if your argument was connected. maybe let's all follow the lead of another poster and go get some wine. ;DPeople are avoiding me on this one, aren't they? Ugly win but a win. Felt the mistakes on defense affected the offense tonight. This should have never been close. Morris, Theis, and Baynes had good games the rest of the guys not so much.

well, just for fun, here are some interesting stats on smart's 3 point shooting.
if you include preseason, smart is 21/55, which is .382 from 3. he's also shooting .359 from 3 since the season opener.
super small sample size to be sure. i need to see a lot more to be convinced he can do it consistently, but, just thinking positive for now.

He looks to be shooting the 3 at an alright rate, it's his 2 point shooting that is bad.

Smart can't score but is above average at every other aspect of the game. You're conveniently leaving that part out of your analogies.
I'm not a big Smart fan, but you do have to be honest and look at the entire picture.

my guess is CBS sits him for the friday game. what starting line up that will be...Tatum reportedly is in a walking boot, and getting imaging tests tomorrow.cripes. not the news i wanted to hear, but thanks for posting it. sigh. :-[

Should be noted that it's considered precautionary for now. Seems like X-rays came back fine tonight, and he's scheduled for MRI tomorrow.

and the bench will have to step up big big big time. but they can do it!!!!
For your defense to be valuable you have to be able to hold the other player to less offensive output than yourself essentially. Marcus can't do that. Sometimes he does great stuff. But Rozier can play defense too. There are other people that can pass well and play defense. And for less money and without shooting us almost out of a game, thereby requiring 4th quarter heroics. We're being told to look past his shooting. We shouldn't do that. It would be a little like ignoring that a QB throws for 44% or that a WR drops every 3rd pass.I don't get it. I'm supposed to tune into a game, see the young pup Lakers giving us a game on our own court, see Smart is 1 for 8 (surprise surprise) and I'm supposed to be like "hey this is great! Let's give him a huge extension! Oh his intense defense! It's so apparent!"Let's say Clarkson is playing Smart one on one to 100.
Lol you sound senile bro.
Smart isn't letting Clarkson shoot 51% on him in one on one, and Smart is going to take him to the post and shoot 60%.
Quit hating on Smart, I mean come on.
I mean...wow
Who's telling you to praise his shooting?
Except for the little fact quarterbacks don't play defense, and Smart is an excellent passer, pick and roll handler, and all around creator. He even is subjectively a great shooter in the clutch.
I also apologize for the 'senile' comment. That wasn't appropriate.
Just don't get how anyone watches that game and feels Clarkson played better than Marcus.

Not even worth discussing with you.
You have, quite clearly, an obvious dislike of Marcus, even though he has been an integral piece of this team, and Brass defense, since he has been here.
You can think Clarkson is better, but I hope you know just how ludicrous that is, and just how wrong you are about Marcus.
Mark Jackson would love to coach the Lakers . And there are a more than few Laker fans wish he was their coach. Jackson buttering up Lakers for a shot some day
Well yeah, but then I'd have to also forget all the many many many other games where Smart dragged down the offense. I mean he couldn't win a game of horse against Mr. Ed.I don't get it. Mr Ed would be like "Wiiiilllbbuuurr. I'm playing a game of horse against Marcus Smart. And I'm winning. He's gonna owe me a pizza Willlbbuurr."
Kind of agree Smart should have worked on his extension before the start of the regular season. His shooting is worse than last year. He is an MLE level player at best.Well yeah, but then I'd have to also forget all the many many many other games where Smart dragged down the offense. The whole offense wasn't pretty tonight. JB was stinking it up, showing poor handling and ugly shooting. Baynes was the high scorer for pete's sake.
Smart/Tony Allen (post-injury) comps make sense though. As a PG, Smart is a much better passer, but I wouldn't say he's above average for position. Makes an impact on defense without a doubt, though such a luxury requires a certain type of roster to work. For comps' sake, Tony Allen was a MLE contract guy coming off winning a championship. Smart is a keeper at that price. Not sure I go much over that.
Exactly. Just like KO. KO didn't reach an extension agreement either, right? Just like Smart. There's a reason. KO not doing so great this year right?Well yeah, but then I'd have to also forget all the many many many other games where Smart dragged down the offense. Yeah, I'm sure Brad has always spoken so highly of Smart, and played him in the most important minutes the last four years, is just because he was drafted at 6.If Brad loved him so much why didn't they extend him?
Nothing to do with his talent, hustle, smarts, or ability to make the right play.
He clearly has been one of Brads favorite players.
Give him 18 a year and I am happy.
Woof. Looks like we're still in search of a lead scorer. It's always nice to see the vets stepping up on nights like this, though - Baynes, Morris. Hopefully as Jaylen and Tatum progress, we won't need someone to score 20+ in like 40 consecutive games. Gotta score the ball to contend with the elite.

Yeah, it's too bad we dont have one of the most unguardable players in the league, who is an incredible creator, and handles the ball better than almost anyone else.
Oh well,
I guess without a lead scorer we are pretty much sunk.
This season was fun while it lasted.

Do we have an elite scorer? Serious question. Some guys have really been going off this year. I think just within this past week:
Lillard: 36, 13, and 5.
Harden: 56, 13, 2.
LeBron had his 57, 11, 7, 3, 2
Seems like Giannis drops 40 every other game
Beal has already gone for 40
What's most impressive about these guys is not just their ability to put up a ridiculous amount of points, but impact the game in so many other ways. Truly remarkable players.

Sure do. I love this team - not a single complaint. Playing great basketball. Have continually praised Brown, Tatum, Horford, Rozier, Smart, etc.
It's hard to believe that some of these studs can drop 20+ in 40 consecutive games. And others, also fill up the rest of the stat sheet. And yet, they aren't even good enough to lead their teams to a chip! What a competitive league of stars.

Laker fans coping ;D
“-Lopez missed 4 wide open 3s
-KCP airballed a wide open 3
-Hart missed a wide open 3
-Kuz missed an easy layup, an easy baby hook off a missed free throw, and made a mess of a 4 on 2 fastbreak
-Brewer missed a wide open 3 and an easy layup
If half of this shots go in, we win this game, even while getting ridiculously out rebounded on the offensive glass.”

He looks like the equivalent of a "game manager" in the NFL. That ish actually worked really well for the 49ers for years. I realize he'll look a lot better with time, too. It'd just be refreshing for people to acknowledge how well he's actually playing to this point. If that sounds wild, so be it. And I've given you like 5x as many TPs as deserved "reports."

Irving is an elite scorer.
Horford is a great offensive player, but far from an elite scorer. Brown isnt a great scorer. Hes an OK one and could eventually be a really good one. Morris is pretty decent but a far cry from elite. Tatum is pretty good too and he could eventually become an elite scorer, but no way hes there right now.
No one else on the team is good at scoring.

Hopefully as Jaylen and Tatum progress, we won't need someone to score 20+ in like 40 consecutive games. Gotta score the ball to contend with the elite.
lulz
And we have more wins than all of those teams.
Our guy is playing within a system for the first time in his career.
Impressive though, finding something about this team to complain about right now!
Lol
I would post the meme with the judge from Billy Madison, but I don't want you to report me.
Your dislike of Kyrie is just getting more and more wild.
Everyone knows 20 point games are cooler than wins, right?
He looks like the equivalent of a "game manager" in the NFL. That ish actually worked really well for the 49ers for years. I realize he'll look a lot better with time, too. It'd just be refreshing for people to acknowledge how well he's actually playing to this point. If that sounds wild, so be it. And I've given you like 5x as many TPs as deserved "reports."
Edit: Please specify exactly what aspects of my previous post suggest that my dislike of Kyrie is "getting more and more wild." Please be as specific as possible, so that we can add a little bit of substance to the convo (if that's what you'd like, too).
I feel we have several elite scorers.
The offense is still really raw, you can tell they are all learning each other’s tendencies.
But we are winning in spite of that.
It’s just remarkable that those same perfect strangers can defend so well together all ready.
Credit Brad for getting them all to buy in.
Kyrie especially. Guy was a career ball hog before coming here. But you can see the progression happening. Early shot clock iso’s have fallen off for him.
Isaiah was electric, better than Kyrie last year. But five years his elder and spendier, Danny made a business decision that aligns with the rest of his (presumably) keeper players.
Classic short term pain, long term gain move.
Will be cool to see.
I mean how ballsy is Danny to rebuild a ECF team on the fly, and end up with a slightly better positioned, completely different ECF contending team?
If you think Horford and Tatum are elite scorers at this stage in their careers then your bar for elite scoring is really low. That would mean 50+ elite scorers in the NBA.I feel we have several elite scorers.no we dont.
Horford is the best 3pt shooting big in the league right now. On top of all else he does. To me, that’s top of the heap. Plus Kyrie, Tatum - who can score from anywhere - of of course Hayward waiting in the wings.
I just think we are seeing ugly offense because it’s hard to teach a lot of nuanced offensive sets to such a young, diverse group.
Once this team really learns what Brad is trying to do offensively, we will be able to beat anyone.
"probably made the right move"Woof. Looks like we're still in search of a lead scorer. It's always nice to see the vets stepping up on nights like this, though - Baynes, Morris. It was bold, and he probably made the right move. And yeah, Brad must be doing an incredible job. Their defense may be enough to put them past CLE this year.
Sucks that Hayward went down. Obviously for himself and family, the Celtics, and fans. He could've been the third go-to-scorer you could rely on in the playoffs. And then Brown and Tatum look like they're taking turns having 20 pt games at this point.

We don't always agree, but thank you so much, for pointing out how ridiculous it is to compare Kyrie to Alex smiff.

It's to the point of ridiculousness lol. We lose two starters for one game, Kyrie happens to shoot badly (almost as if the entire defence was focused on him, crazy!) and you pull out this nonsense.
It's really boring

Let's talk when he starts playing more than 1 quarter. This is the franchise, correct? That's what i continue to read here. So, per Boston tradition, I'd like KI to prove she deserves all of this admiration in Boston so quickly.
I don't remember your posts ever changing my worldview, but I apologize if mine aren't tickling your fancy. I'll keep trying.

We didn't have Horford, we lost Tatum. Our spacing was horrible, our player movement were horrible. As good as Baynes played, he couldnt replace what Al brought to the team, spacing, passing, screening and most of all, having someone who can draw attention from Kyrie, even for a bit.
"I think that some of the plays that we were making earlier, it was unbelievable,” Irving said. But he acknowledged that Boston got a little too fancy at times after that. "Ten million dollar move with a five-cent finish at times, and it caught up with us.
. I still can't bring myself to cheer to root for Kyrie, and I don't expect to start soon

We were toying with the Lakers most of the night. Kyrie stated:Quote"I think that some of the plays that we were making earlier, it was unbelievable,” Irving said. In my case, I root for the name in front of the jersey more than the name on the back. Meaning I root for the Celtics. It has always helped me to stay with the team through all the trades. Other guys I know fall in love with players and root for them more. Everyone is different. I hope your still enjoying the games enough.

Why would someone with the username tarheels23 have an irrational dislike for a player who went to Duke? I'm sure someone might have an answer, but it's a mystery to me. Perhaps we'd be better off if our point guard was Ray Felton. ;)

Sure, however even at the start of the game before our lead grew you could tell the spacing was off. Ball movement was worse as our off-ball actions. They played a factor in how bad Kyrie shot. We missed Horford although our defense at least made up for it.
I root for the Celtics, but there's a difference between cheering for guys like PP, Walter, Battie than for guys like Blount. I hope you get what I mean. I always wish the players on the Celtics to do well whoever they are, its just that there are certain players that I feel good about.
