Jason Timpf was talking about Steph's improved play since the trade for Jimmy.
Steph = 14 games 33mpg = 29.9ppg 49.6% FG% 18.9 FGA 42.4% 3PT% 12.3 3PTA 92.3% FT% 6.5 FTA 6.1apg 4.1rpg 1.1spg only 2.8 turnovers per game. 68.7% TS%
Numbers that are on a par with his unanimous MVP season when he went for 30.1ppg on 66.9% TS%.
I was reading up on this stat called TS Added that is on Basketball Reference. It is some mix of scoring multiplied by rTS% (relative TS% to league average). So you get more points for scoring 30 per game at +8.0% than you do for 20ppg at +8.0. It is an interesting measurement.
Anyway, the point that was being made here with Steph is ...
* Steph had the highest TS Added in the last 50 years and by a large margin at that. That was his unanimous MVP campaign when he averaged that 30ppg on 67% TS%.
That Steph has been matching that production in terms of both points per game and rTS% since Jimmy Butler arrived.
So not only is Steph playing at the same level recently as peak-Steph but that this peak-Steph was the most devastating scorer (by TS Added) in the last 50 years.
-------------------------------------
Steph scored a 454 in TS Added. Only one other player scored over 400 in the last 40 years and that was Charles Barkley with a 433. Kevin Durant has the next highest scores at 395 and 384.
Only 14 players have scored over 300 in the last 40 years (MJ 4 times, Chuck 3 times, Steph twice, Durant twice, Reggie twice, McHale, Mullin, Peja, Shaq, K Malone, Artis, Dantley). Interesting that Shaq only made it once because his FT% dragged down his TS%.
Only Chuck & Curry got above 400.
If you go further back in history, Kareem had scores of 453 and 460 in 1971 and 1972 respectively. Wilt had a 441 in 1967. Dantley got a 408 in 1984. I missed that one. I think they are the only other 400+ scores in league history.
I have to learn more about this TS Added stat. It looks interesting. I like the mixture of volume relative to efficiency to give an overall rank for scoring.
