Forget the possibilities of Irving and AD for a sec

situation is, Hayward, Tatum and Brown will be on the roster for next season. All want to start, but only 2 spots available in the lineup  (SF and SG)

Which two would you prefer to keep? Which player to trade?

Factors to consider

- Hayward could return to pre injury shape
- If Hayward is traded ... how would future FAs perceive Celts org
- If Hayward stays, given minutes...but struggles again....does that rub the other members the wrong way
- Does either Tatum or Brown become disgruntled and ask for a trade

First, triboy, what did you do to your name? It's definitely different - capitalized? #1? I didn't even know you could change your name. I have been stuck with my non-descript name since 2005.

Second, is this a trick question? I think the majority of people like Hayward and are hopeful he can return to his former glory, but Tatum and Brown are our homegrown stars in the making. They seem to be the clear-cut obvious choices.

In a vacuum? Obviously Tatum and Brown

If we have to lose Kyrie? I’d trade Tatum for a promising big and start a lineup of... Smart/Brown/Hayward/promising big/Horford

If it means getting AD? I’d give up Tatum and Smart. Keep brown (although I could be persuaded to keep Smart instead of Brown)

Obviously Brown and Tatum, but we aren't getting AD without giving up one of them.
Jaylen Brown for All-NBA

Stuck with Hayward no matter what...

I think the issue and question becomes is...Does losing Kyrie help us get Utah Hayward back. Because it really seems GH has been quite laidback from being himself because Kyrie was around...I mean I love Kyrie but him and Hayward is just not working out.

I think DA still needs to get AD even if Kyrie bolts because GH, AD and Horford is still prety much a formidable trio and can share the rock more, surround them with dead eye shooters and they can still contend I think...hopefully we only lose Tatum in an AD trade and not both J's.

Brown needs to go, he is part of our chemistry problem with Rozier
Hayward volunteer to come from bench
Tatum said he has no problem come from bench
Brown:"coming from bench is the most difficult thing in my career"

If we can keep Tatum and Smart and still get AD, that’d be a MAJOR win

If you project JB and JT as all-star or near all-star level players, it has to be keep them because they are likely to give you 7 or 8 more years than Hayward.  But if we are talking a 2-3 year window of contention in the next 2-3 years, I think I’d go with Brown and Hayward. Ultimately, Tatum could be the best of the 3 (and should get the most back in a trade), but at this moment in time I think Jaylen does more than Jayson, and I would gamble that Gordon returns to form (perhaps a stupid gamble).

He is far from part of the chemistry problem.

In that 1 instance you are semi-quoting does not make him a chemsitry issue.

I have no doubts it was very difficult for him to go from a playoff stud last season to seeing his role chamge dramatically this seadon. And to go from the starting lineup of one of the leagues top performing lineups to the bench on a middling nba lineup

But he did it.

But he did it.

Just for context, here is the full quote...all the way back to Dec. 12th!

"It's probably been the hardest thing I've had to deal with so far in my career,” Brown told MacMullan. “Just coming from a position where you had so much responsibility, and now that responsibility is lessened. Expectations have been raised, but your responsibility goes down, so it's hard to reach those expectations when you aren't being asked to do as much.”

There may have been a slight adjustment curve for Brown, but I think he more than made up for it. In my opinion, Brown showed incredible growth in his game and maturity since his early season struggles. He is the least of my worries right now.

Agreed

And he finished the year well coming off the bench

Brown and Tatum.

I must say I'm confused as to why this would even be a question.

As always...  what's the trade return?

I mean, if we can go back in time and trade Brown for Kawhi, it's obviously Brown.

If we can move Tatum for AD, then it's him.

If we're getting negative value for Hayward, you can always play him off the bench again.

I've never understood the "Give me a definitive answer to a hypothetical when key facts are withheld" scenario.
