This year has upended my expectations about team chemistry. I just didn’t foresee how much trouble they were going to have sharing the ball. For sure subtracting “mr sacrifice” Terry Rozier is going to help. But beyond that? If we actually get Davis and keep Kyrie, who fits next to them? Both Brown and Tatum need touches and freedom to become the best version of the players they can be. Will it be there with Kyrie and AD in the mix? And if you keep Hayward, that’s *three* guys who would be happy with a usage rate around 30.
Brown has his contract year next year. This year he was a good soldier, but if he wants a max deal or close to it he has to become a better playmaker. Can they find the freedom for him to develop that skill if he’s playing next to those guys?
If Kyrie leaves (which I honestly expect) I’d love to see gordon traded to NOP with picks. Keep Tatum and Brown. Smart, Brown, Tatum, Davis, Horford. But that’s a fantasy. Second best is sending Tatum and Smart (sigh), and picking up someone like Beverley in free agency. Beverley-Brown-Hayward-Davis-Horford, resign Baynes and Semi, ideally Mook. Ideally we keep enough picks to get a groomable player in this year’s draft. That team can be elite on defense and should have enough scoring without suffocating the guys who want to be score-first players.
