The C's are definitely in for a tough match up tonight. Denver is one of the few teams that has actually beaten the Kings!
Celts have had a tough early schedule. Philly, Toronto, Milwaukee, Indy, OKC, Denver and will play Portland and Utah in 2 of next 3 games. 8 of first 13 games against probable playoff teams. 9 of first 13 games on the road.
Horford seems very well-equipped to defend Jokic. Let’s hope he can slow him
Agree. Thankfully Jokic can't get anywhere whenever he wantsHorford seems very well-equipped to defend Jokic. Let’s hope he can slow him
My guess is they will defend him a lot like they defended Giannis. If he scores 28 points, but only has 3 assists, we probably did a pretty good job defensively.
It's when these passing forwards/bigs become playmakers for others that defenses get in trouble.
I just looked at the lines from 3 sites and they have Celts -4 which is very surprising to a team that is 8-1 and is undefeated so far at home. Hopefully they know something I don't. Go Celts!!
Let's also look out for Juan Hernangomez. He had a very bad second season, but he has been on fire from range lately.
Is Millsap going to be a problem again or is he too old to do damage? Or maybe he still has nightmares from Smart guarding him.

I got a line at 7pm...... Cs favored by 1.
Dangerous game to wager on.jamaal Murray has played unconsciously against us.

Milsap may not play… Gametime decision.
is it just me or does anyone else look at Denver's starting line-up and wonder how they can be 8-1?You'd think so, but they play insanely hard on defence.
JAY BEE FOR 3looking better this game so far
JAY BEE FOR 3

I want to see a safe lead for once.

Nope. Jokic is really good, Millsap is really good. Murray is up and coming. Gary Harris is very solid. They play hard. A lot to like.
Offence looks fantastic. Hopefully it lasts

wow, pretty sure I am watching an all star team!!
Our passing really is something else.
Have to say that I am SO impressed with Kyrie's D this year, too. He's been so active defensively.
wow. jokic moves on every pick so far.
great team play by the celtics are picking the nuggets defense apart. great game plan by CBS and great execution by the celtics.
without murry's great shooting the nuggets would be buried.
Rozier dribbling himself in circles again. He plays like AI just a whole lot less talent
stupid shot terry geez man
Brown didn't get an assist on either play. But those two drives and nice kick outs are they reason for the Horford and-1 and the Rozier three. Thats something we didn't see form his last year. Not all driving has to about finishing at the rim, it also causes rotations and opens the 3pnt line.
stupid shot terry geez man
That's a good nickname for Rozier... Stupid Shot Terry!
Rozier just made my eyes bleed....
quite possibly the best quarter they've played this year
Here we go again. Awful start to the quarter. It's the 2nd quarter. Of course it is.
Really, really not a fan of this lineup, or the all bench lineups in general. Not enough scoring or shooting, especially with Smart and Semi out there. Why can't we stagger at least one of the starters with these guys?
ugh, back to relying on mostly 3's again

Brad's getting too cute with this all bench lineup

I thought the entire point of having Hayward and Kyrie back was to avoid the "no offense" lineup. Unless this is no more than early season CBS tinkering with lineups.
Five great scorers in the starting lineup, why do we have them all off the floor at the same time?i know. at least 1 to 2 of the starters should be on the floor for almost the entire game.
Seems like you put Tatum in with this group and let him be Kobe, you're going to be better off.

We need a starter in at all times... we have 5 all star/fringe all stars no reason to have all bench lineup out there

He was doing that, just with Mook instead.
It's not a horrible idea: have a defensive specialist 5 on the floor, and run all offense through Mook... just didn't work then.
God, Smart is such a joy to watch (outside of his heat checks). If he eliminates them (he's stepped in the right direction this year) he'd be so awesome
Rozier makes me pull my hair out!

that the first foul we've gotten on a drive to the hoop?
My goodness, Kyrie. Looking like the Kyrie of old!
My goodness, Kyrie. Looking like the Kyrie of old!
Such a joy to watch when he’s hitting shots like this.
I question whether Rozier even thinks before pulling the trigger at this point. Senseless shot selection.
I have to say, Rozier is doing some nice things on the court tonight....Jinxed him into taking that terrible 3

What an awful quarter.
Just get to the freaking hole, Tatum! Stop this Kobe-wannabe midrange crap!

That all bench line up just killed the momentum, talk about a line up of death....

he was a better offensive player last year before Kobe got to him. :(Just get to the freaking hole, Tatum! Stop this Kobe-wannabe midrange crap!
Right
Pass the [dang] ball Tatum.
Hayward just gassed or is that “frustrated” body language?Probably gassed due to altitude
Either way not good
What an awful quarter.
That all bench line up just killed the momentum, talk about a line up of death....
Yep. Brad simply has to be better than that. It was clear from the get-go that lineup wasn't working, and it shouldn't have even been put out there in the first place. There's just not enough consistent scoring in a Rozier, Smart, Semi, Morris, and Baynes lineup. Just a dumb move.
Ugh. Kobe finding ways to screw us years into retirementhe was a better offensive player last year before Kobe got to him. :(Just get to the freaking hole, Tatum! Stop this Kobe-wannabe midrange crap!
Right
If only we could get away with running an 8 man rotation with only the two Marcus' and Baynes off the bench! What an awful quarter.

And to prove this point - every starter is +6 or better with every bench player in the negative. >:(
Just get to the freaking hole, Tatum! Stop this Kobe-wannabe midrange crap!
His bad college habits. He needs to realize this is not a strength, and these shots should only be taken in dire situations (like when the shot clock is about to hit 0)
OMG HEY MARCUS IF U GONNA FOULD KNOCK HIM DOWN FOR TWO not a AND ONE!Awful foul
that kind of offense drives me nuts. Al had an open shot in the lane but he kicks out for a 3 that's missedHe didn't even look to shoot either, ugh
And the 18 pt lead is officially blown in one quarter... nice work
that kind of offense drives me nuts. Al had an open shot in the lane but he kicks out for a 3 that's missedHe didn't even look to shoot either, ugh
18 point lead down to a 2 point lead all in the first half. Terrible. Bad substitution decision-making by Brad and Murray going off has really hurt us tonight.
18 point lead blownwhat should he learn? that murray is going crazy tonight no matter what defense is played on him???
great brad
did u learn anything from this half???
that kind of offense drives me nuts. Al had an open shot in the lane but he kicks out for a 3 that's missed
Murray having a career night. C's need to get physical with him - throw him off his game.they need to make him work on defense as well. and yeah, get physical as well. maybe play semi on him??? ;D

offense is definitely better but when a player is in the lane and doesn't feel a defender on his back, he needs to at least look at the hoop to see if he's open or has an opening for a layupthat kind of offense drives me nuts. Al had an open shot in the lane but he kicks out for a 3 that's missed
Hey, I'm much happier with tonight's offense than I was the last several games. We've only had a few bad threes in this one, and we're shooting twice as many twos as threes. I like that distribution better than the other way around.
Nuggets are a good team.
They were not going to lay down after being down 18.
may have been. I'd gladly offer my services. I could lay out 6 fouls on Murray that will have him passing as soon as he touches the ball. I'd probably get kicked out of the league for 60 games but that 1-game paycheck would be sweet. ;DWasn’t it harris last year who killed us?Murray having a career night. I really never want to hear about Brown's lack of BBIQ. His ability to hit the open man when driving to the basket when the shot is shut off has been spectacular this year. He learns so much more each year.
On the other end of the spectrum, Tatum looks stupid this year. Last year at this time he was hitting threes at 48%. Now he doesn't take threes, he runs in and takes bad mid range shots. What happened Jayson.
i hate this ref#48

He learns so much more each year.Tatum is not the same player. Just an opinion but I think it may be a combination of him being a little too cocky after last season and confusion about his role now that they're trying to integrate Hayward. In any event, he's a big part of why they've been struggling so far.

Jamal Murray is not the superstar we are making him seem to be.Pretty positive he had big game vs the Cs last year too

I'd like to punch Scal in his face.LOL

Tatum is awful
ugh, Brown still having issues scoring around the basket. needs to practice up close a 100 shots a day until he gets back into a rhythm up close.
How is it possible to be a professional basketball player and only shoot 32% at FTs?
Bob needs a LOT of work on setting screens..He needs a lot of work at a lot of thimgs
Lol Mike Malone just went gangsta on Brad Stevens and hacked Williams because we hacked Plumlee ;D That's hilarious.Didn't work well for him

Yeah, I could walk down to the park at night and make that.

RWill so easily out-rebounded Millsap! Man, he should be awesome
Man, Hayward just looks so deflated out there. Clearly lacking confidence.Thankfully held his own on Millsap

Man, Hayward just looks so deflated out there. Clearly lacking confidence.I wonder whether Stevens is weighing whether to give some of Hayward's and Tatum's minutes to someone else till they start playing better. Right now they're not really helping much.
I sure hope we get the old Hayward soon.he'll get there. just be patient.
RWill could be lethal in pnrs. But no, Brad would rather have his teams jacking up 3s.Well, he's also very raw and hasn't developed much stamina after his preseason was cut short. Especially important in Denver

God, I'm so done with Rozier. I really just hope we trade him at the deadline.Yep. I'm officially done with him, lol. Clearly playing for money

Rozier 2-8 and -15
its early, terry will have his time this year.
Even Denver's announcer asked "What is he doing?", referring to Rozier's last shot. We're all wondering the same thing.
its early, terry will have his time this year. Not if he continues to look out purely for himself. Hope he's not in Boston next season, or sooner
hate blowing big leads on road especiallyAn 18 pt early lead against a good team on the road is never going to last in this league - unless that team doesn't feel like playing on a particular night. Drives me nuts when announcers harp on this. C'mon Mike, look at the opponent....

His Scary Terry phase was the aberation.
Celtics have been dominated since going up 18. Been outscored 69 to 47 since first quarter. So basically since Brad put the all bench lineup in?
only down seven. celtics can win this one. still an entire quarter to go.bad TREND is the point

No, it's not new. That's the problem. He hasn't improved really at all except as a rebounder, and has regressed since his playoff run. Granted he's getting less minutes, but he's still gone down from an EFG% of about 50% in the playoffs to about 45% for this season. Not only this, but he pretty evidently seems to believe he's worth a double digit salary, which he simply isn't.Interesting thing about Rozier is his stats this season are about equal with his career to date. I was saying this earlier in another threat; it's not like this isn't the player he is. He had a really solid playoff run and *okay* season as a backup guard on a winning team. However, he's always been a low % volume scorer with a horrible sense of how to run an offense. It's not really anything new.

Denver is an awful 3 point shooting team. Tonight they are shooting 41%. It figuresProblem is Cs are a bad 3 pt shooting team too
if he was playing within himself and within the team's offensive and defensive schemes, I have little doubt he'd show he's worth Smart money or more. problem is, he's not doing that and it's hurting the team and his future contractNo, it's not new. Sit Hayward on the bench. Doesn't have it today. He really has been struggling and not doing a whole lot of positive stuff on the floor
Denver is an awful 3 point shooting team. Tonight they are shooting 41%. It figuresTo be fair, Murray came into this shooting 27%, so him shooting above 40% is a bit of a return to the norm
Those who championed Rozier over Kyrie must feel goofy now
Rozier has no business being a ballhandler. 0 assists in 17 minutes, hasn't even come close to making a decent play for someone else. Awful decision making, awful pick and roll play.
Why the hell is he even still in this game?
They were hilariousThose who championed Rozier over Kyrie must feel goofy now

Yeah, we have two days off after this - why not just play Kyrie the rest of the game and put him at 34 minutes given how well he's played and how poorly Rozier has played?

Kyrie basically keeping us in this by himself on offense at this pointGive it to Kyrie and move away.
Sit Hayward on the bench. Doesn't have it today.
Did Kyrie just say "shut the ____ up"?
;D
Love it.
Seriously, Kyrie could win MVP if we didn't have so many mouths to feed. He looks as good the last few games as I've ever seen him, on both sides of the ball, too.The way he breaks up plays on defence this year has been awesome. Rondo used to do similar things
He actually looks healthy this year, along with more comfortable in the offense. I wonder how much the knee was really bothering him last year.
Sit Hayward on the bench. Doesn't have it today.
It's such a difficult decision for Brad. Yeah, he's playing like crap right now, but we kind of HAVE to suffer through it in the early part of the season to get him the reps to get back to full strength.
I'd rather have Smart on the floor than Rozier.
Murray just obliterating the Cs
Murray just obliterating the CsMaybe try doubling him?

Brown is such an idiot with low BBIQ.. Completely missed the switch and gave up a wide open three to Murray, who has been lights out all night.

Is Brown in the game?
They are literally afraid to take 3s today!
m3hNext step is guys start pointing fingers - especially the ones who think they deserve more minutes.
we have played too bad for too long
we are not winning again tonight
sad
shoulda never been in this position
Why has Brown only played 22 minutes, the same as Rozier? Brown was one of the few guys being aggressive and making things happen. Rozier has sucked.
When u r open shoot! They are literally afraid to take 3s today!
ha ha ha... when the celtics shot a lot of threes, some folks complain. when they attack the basket, some people complain. ;D
oh there is 6 minutes left? LOLand yet only down a few points. ;D
we have looked like trash since the 11 minute mark of the 2nd

Still kills me that we've played Rozier as much as we have tonight. He killed us out there.I ****ing hate Rozier so much as a player. He just plays the absolute worst way possible
Murray can’t missDue for a cold spell? (we wish)

terrible
Really needed that shot from Tatum. And that one from Al

its not the celtics, its murray that is the differnce. wow.
Tatum had, for almost the first time ever, a wide open mid-range jumper. And he jab steps for literally no reason and runs into Jokic.
He has been garbage, only outshone by Rozier

Goes back to the start of the 2nd quarter.A lot of that weakness inside is because Al almost refuses to do that, and Baynes barely cracked 10 minutes
This loss is on Brad. And our soft defense that won't whack the **** out of Murray when he comes into the paint.

It's really bad too because shots from between 10 feet to the arc are making up 39% of his total FGA. Simply inexcusable. Not this season. And he jab steps for literally no reason and runs into Jokic.
He has been garbage, only outshone by Rozier
lol
Tatum only take DIFFICULT mid range jumpers. To be fair he makes a lot of them
Yep, he started out hot but has come crashing back to earth from mid range this year.
Robert Williams should've gotten more minutes.that wouldnt have stopped murray.

We can micro manage this game all we want but when a guy goes for 50 on his home court and we play some of the worst defense of the year, you're gonna lose.

Plus, Al's defence on Murray when switching in the PnR was regularly weak. He let him get shots off way too often without even putting his hands up to contest the jumperRobert Williams should've gotten more minutes.that wouldnt have stopped murray.
Maybe not, but it might've kept him out of the paint.

**** move by Murray trying to get the 50.Are you surprised?
Goes back to the start of the 2nd quarter.
This loss is on Brad. And our soft defense that won't whack the **** out of Murray when he comes into the paint.
Work in progress. Looking for consistency in December/Januarywith hayward healthy, celtics win this one.
Sometimes, you just get beat by a player playing out of their mind. That happened tonight. Tip of the hat to Jamal Murray

Brad ultimately lost this game for us in the second quarter with that brain fart of a lineup that got them right back in the game, in addition to continuing to play Rozier bigger minutes even though he kills us on both sides of the ball and is clearly playing for his next contract and not buying into a new, lesser role.
Brad is a smart guy, and he has a lot of great qualities as a coach. But for whatever reason he gets a pass for really struggling with in-game decision-making, especially rotations. He regularly makes dumb substitutions trying to get too cute with lineups, and he's very slow to react.
This is a perfect example of one of those games where he gets too cute with the lineups and costs us.
Celtics will remember Murray trying for 50 with that last second shot to get 50. Hope that p!sses off this team and gets them motivated.Their problems run deeper than worrying about some guy trying to show them up. The way they've been playing they deserve to be shown up.

100.
Murray with a weak move at the end. cheapens what he accomplished. hope C's take it for the slap in the face that it was

I like Murray actually, but that was definitely a weak move.
It's hard to take a team when a guy goes bananas like Murray tonight, he was pretty much automatic points whenever Denver needed them. Nothing in our defense could've stopped him tonight.
Tatum has forgotten how to shoot the basketball over the summer, he hasn't shot 50% or better in a game since the Knicks game on 10/20. I'm hoping he's gets his rhythm back. He really is having a hard time in this offense.
Kyrie obviously still need to be the man taking the most shots out of everyone every night right now.
I'm predicting a 1-4 road trip with a win against the Suns, the Celt's offense still has a looong way to go.
Scalabrine is the worst kind of apologist. So sick of his nonsense. Never calls the team out.
They have been on the road and played their last two games against competition that had a combined record of 13-4. A guy on the other team scored almost 50. If they played at home during a home stretch and Murray plays like he usually does the C's are 2-0 the last two games.Celtics will remember Murray trying for 50 with that last second shot to get 50. Scalabrine is the worst kind of apologist. So sick of his nonsense. Never calls the team out.No one can call them out. They'd lose their job. But yeah, Scal is annoying. In fact everyone on that broadcast is annoying except for Mike, Tommy and maybe Abby. The rest....

They should be less p---ed off at Murray for trying to get 50, and more p---ed off that they let him go for 48.

Chris Mannix: "There were a lot of defensive breakdowns in this game."
At least somebody in the broadcast noticed.

Agree. And even as the ultimate homer Tommy is at least vaguely critical sometimes.
This stuff is a disgrace compared to guys like Eckersley, Joe Castiglione, even Scott Zolack.

I find Tommy to be annoying, honestly.
I think Mike might be the best play-by-play guy in the business. The New Orleans crew is pretty good, too, though.
Who allowed Murray to score 48 in a win? I'll never understand that lack of pride.

unfortunately, i don't understand the lack of pride either, but that was my fear when we traded for him. his perspective on basketball is not that of a Celtic. He likes the idea of being a Celtic and all that goes along with that, but is clueless to what it takes mentally and physically.
This is sickening - and what happened to our rebounding improvement from last season? oh right, when your post guys are hanging out at the 3-line, they are not in position to hit the boards. they prefer to play finesse basketball rather than getting in the lane and working and our coach is too frightened to tell players what they can and cannot do.

Them fighting words.
No Celtics fan should ever utter those words. Show some respect. The guy has forgotten more basketball than you or anyone on these boards will ever know.

We were switching quite a lot, but mainly it was kyrie on him.

When you're hot you're hot.
Kyrie only getting 2 shots in the last 5 minutes is ridiculous though. Much more annoyed about Brad's equal opportunity offence garbage than a redhot guy hitting shots
how are we favor??? Hope im wrong but Nuggets by 10i was close..team is way overrated as i said they would be in offseason..they will get better but not by much..hayward is awful so far but will. get better

As opposed to Booker who scored 70 against a prideless IT led team....
I really thought Brad killed our momentum in the 2nd quarter after that great start when he put in an all bench lineup of Rozier/smart/morris/semi/baynes.....when you have 5 starters who can all score why wouldnt you stagger them and leave one or two at all times with the bench unit?It was perhaps the worst time to experiment with that awful lineup, ugh.
that unit gave up the lead before brad called a timeout and it was all downhill from there. Then in the 3rd quarter the whistles started by the refs.
but I thought Brad leaving that unit in, and leaving them in too long really is what got the Nuggets back into the game. My only beef with brad really is that I think he tries out these horrible lineups and leaves them in too long.
no, the worst time is in the playoffs. I do think he goes too long with bad line-ups but I don't have an issue with him trying things out early in the season to see what works and what doesn't. if he's still experimenting after Christmas, I'd be a lot more concerned.I really thought Brad killed our momentum in the 2nd quarter after that great start when he put in an all bench lineup of Rozier/smart/morris/semi/baynes.....when you have 5 starters who can all score why wouldnt you stagger them and leave one or two at all times with the bench unit?It was perhaps the worst time to experiment with that awful lineup, ugh.

I have to admit, I'm starting to get on board with turning one of our starters into a 6th man be it Tatum, Brown or Hayward. I think we have too many cooks in the kitchen right now and none of our starters besides Kyrie seems to be developing a consistent rhythm.the starters started off just fine. the issue was not leaving a couple of them on the floor mixed in with the bench players to continue the flow of offense. Pull any 2 of Brown, Tatum and Hayward after 6 minutes. pull Horford and either Kyrie or the remaining wing starter a few minutes later and sub a starter wing back in. Pull kyrie/last wing near the end of the quarter and put other wing back in.
