I was in Seattle and Oregon a few months ago and went up to Mount St. Helens and my first thought was something like bigfoot could totally live here and never be seen with any regularity.

The press conference these guys were/are holding to unveil the 'bigfoot' and all the evidence is about 15 minutes away from me.  I passed the stories around with coworkers and actually considered going to watch that joke... spectacle... milestone.

Fact is none of these stupid urban legends about land creatures will ever turn up as legit.  If you read about bigfoot/squatch, for example you'll see that theres several groups dedicating their lives to searching the woods for this creature using every bit of scientific equipment they can get their hands on.  They have been doing this for what... 50 years?  How elusive can this creature really be?   A female scientist can go off into the Congo and be living with a group of Silverback Gorillas within a week, and these clowns can't get a single picture of Bigfoot in 50 years?

If any of the urban legend creatures ever actually turnup, it will be from the ocean.  Too difficult to cover that mass.  There is no telling what is down there.  They send state-of-the-art equipment down to depths they could never travel before and find all sorts of odd and unusual fish creatures that survive in 0 light and ridiculous pressurized depths.   For a while the "giant squid" was a pretty much an urban legend.... seamonster/kraken.. whatever..  But they finally caught one on film 4 years ago.
