Found summary of Woj's WEEI interview on REALGM:

http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=1161557

Summary of summary (yah, I know, but Gant is pretty reliable poster): Ray and KG most likely won't fetch 1st rounder??

Rondo only for star and Doc, Danny and Cs say "Rondo's gotta go" stuff is pure fantasy

Pierce most likely of the 4 to be traded to a team that he would put over the top, and the Bulls were mentioned by Woj specifically.

What other contenders would PP put over the top, and what would we want in return?

Actually trading Pierce or Rondo will get us the most if we are looking to the future. KG and Ray are probably worth more to us as expirings and the attendant cap flexibility.

PP to Denver for Andre Miller(expiring) and S+t Chandler and a 1st ?

can't really think of any more, but i like the chicago deal a lot if they could get that.

Seeing Pierce get traded would definitely make this season suck several times worse than it does now.

He also mentioned Granger for Pierce.

As for FA's, he did mention Eric Gordon when pressed for names that would be restricted.

It will certainly be unpleasant on a number of levels, but watching most of the games is already excruciating.

Exactly.

Also, isn't Ray Allen the more moveable piece here?

He may be the more movable piece, but if  you're going all-out for Howard, you want to let Allen and Garnett expire, and be able to show him a young core with Rondo and a very good wing player (think something along the lines of Granger/Deng).

plenty of teams could use Pierce.  The Lakers, the Clippers, the Thunder, the Mavericks, the Nuggets, the Bulls, the Pacers, the Sixers, the Hawks, the Magic, and probably a few others where Pierce would make a huge difference in the playoff prospects of a team.  That said many of those teams don't have the pieces the Celtics would want and/or that they would be willing to give up in the trade.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I really hate the idea of trading Pierce.

I understand the logic, but I'm glad I'm not the one stuck with the decision.

came up with another one

KG and Pietrus to Portland for Camby(expiring),Wallace(1 year left after this year) and a 1st round pick

Would love to have Wallace playing lock down D and running with Rondo.

Yes, he is.  But he is not as good a player, and he would be a couple month rental.  I do think they could get a first round pick (late first round pick) for Ray, but I don't think they could get much more, unless they took back a bad contract as part of the deal.

Why would Portland do that?  Wallace and Camby are both possibly better than KG and Pietrus.

Portland would be a prime landing spot for Pierce though.  I think a deal based around Pierce for Wallace and other piece or two could be interesting.  The problem comes with that other piece, because I don't think Portland would give up Batum.

That's the worst possible type of trade we could make, taking in someone who is not an upgrade in talent, not young enough, and not coming off the books next season.

That fits with past trade history, so long as the Celtics are unwilling to take on bad contracts.
