I dont get this trade at all. AT ALL. If Danny is trying to move Rondo before he deamnds a big contract then why is he trading him for two players who in a year or two are going to do the same thing???

I really hope this isn't true.

Here is some stats.

Conley is 21 2 years younger than Rondo.

February numbers 14.5 PPG, 6.2 APG, 4.8 RPG
March numbers 13.9 PPG, 5.1 APG, 3.5 RPG
April numbers 15.6 PPG, 5.8 APG, 3.7 RPG

Gay age 22

Numbers were pretty consistent all year.  18.9 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 1.7 APG

After looking at the numbers especially Conley I feel a little better if this trade were true.

I wouldn't be devastated but...it seems like a huge change to make and we're basically going from the Rondo of this year to the Rondo of last year and getting the next Josh Smith in return.  Worth it?

Oh, and we'd have to pay both of them a lot in the future - probably adding up to more than we'd pay Rondo.

Numbers on Memphis at the end of the season don't mean that much. Rondo's numbers would be higher if he wasn't playing with three all-stars, as you saw come playoff time, when KG was out and Ray/Pierce were tired/battling injuries. If Rondo had been on Memphis, his numbers would be much higher.

If this trade were to go down, it would definitely only be the first stone to fall, as having both Gay and Pierce on the same team would be ineffective, since Paul is too slow to play the shooting guard position, and Gay is too good to come off the bench.

Source not reliable. If its true, Rudy 6th man of the year. Maybe we can trade conley for something else, and sign Andre Miller. Conley for travis outlaw.
Miller/Marbury
Ray/house/walker
Pierce/Gay
KG/Outlaw
Perk/Dice

Just kidding! :)

Hey kids, lets be a GM for a day. This Rumor is such a joke.

Yeah, that's a good point. Memphis sucks...you can't take the stats seriously, besides the player PER.  PER of the Memphis player reveals that Conley is at best an average PG at this point and Rudy Gay has gotten off to a slow start for an All-Star prospect.

Gay seems a little too similar to a young Tim Thomas. If you're scared to pay Rondo a big contract, do you really want to invest in Gay?

his FG% is terrible for a PG. now we'd still have a PG with no jumpshot, but one who also struggles to run a team.

I guess i am just not a fan of Conley.

You know, that's not SO bad actually.  Outlaw and Gay would give us matchups that we could absolutely abuse in our second unit, and also give us two guys who could be good for the future if we hold onto them.  Miller / Conley wouldn't be such a bad PG rotation, and we've all seen that having a great PG isn't necessary for a championship ('09 Lakers for example).

I agree with you on Conley. Getting Gay would be nice, but it is not worth downgrading the PG position.

This post was appears to be a joke and has been locked, i'd ignore it.

The ONLY reason in my eyes to trade rondo, is to get good value (probably slightly less value) so we can make a run for the free agents in 2010 by signing ray to a small contract, and having pierce take a pay cut.

Gay would command a large extension as well, this trade just doesn't make sense.

I don't like this trade very much. If the #2 was thrown in, then it becomes more palatable. I don't think I can take any more Rondo trade rumors..

Really?  We are getting a young star in Gay, and a young PG in Conley, who has the potential to be nearly as good as Rondo, and was starting to show it last season.  I think this is a no brainer for the C's.

I think it's too speculative to say that Conley will be able to build on his success in the second half of last season. I like his handle and I think he should pan out to be a solid PG. I'm skeptical that he will be replace what Rondo gives us. I'm not sure Gay sweetens the deal. If it were Conley and Gasol I'd pull the trigger.

on the money side of things, it actually does make sense.

Gay is due for an extension next year, but if he didn't work out, we could just try to move him or worst case release him.

Conley would be locked for about 4 mil through the 2010 FA period, so conceivably if we let Gay and Allen walk, we could go after a top FA in that massive FA class.

but, yeah I'm not really down with this move because I'm not liking Conley running the point.
