I really like this kid the more I look into him. He has work to do on his game including fixing his shot mechanics but he has a lot of stuff already. This is a pretty good critique of this kid who would be there in the second round:

This points to the weaknesses in Nelson's game. I still like him as a second round pick. But he has work to do.

The shooting percentages + averaging more turnovers than assists frighten me, especially when he's advertised as a skilled big wing. I don't think he has enough upside nor ability to immediately contribute to interest us
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

I’m not seeing anything in his highlights that I haven’t seen from Luka Šamanić playing in Maine.

He is basically playing an alpha role with the team he's on. He's forcing shots and the whole team is focused on him taking those shots. He's facing way more double and even triple teams leading to a load of turnovers. I don't think he'll be asked to do that at the next level. His efficiency from 3 has totally cratered but his 2P% has gone up. His an energy role player at the next level and he has lots of work to do. I'd love to see him in our summer league.

I think he's more athletic more of a forward than a center and I think his motor is higher. I also like Luka.

If we have 3 second round picks I hope this guy is one of the picks.

Grant Nelson reminds me a little of Zach Collins. Not quite as big and maybe more athletic.

We only have one second round pick, likely in the 30s.

No, not at all.  We have either the Houston pick if it lands at 33 (unlikely, but not impossible) or the Portland pick, which is currently in a 3-way tie for 36th.  One pick got sent to OKC for Muscala.  Our own pick went to Charlotte as part of the Hayward TPE, and then Charlotte subsequently sliced part of the rights off to Washington last year, so a lot of draft sites get that protection wrong to make it look like we have that one still.  We also had a top-55 protected pick from Orlando, but that was obviously never going to convey.

That clears that up! LOL

The more I look the more I like him. I think Nelson will be a better pro. He's a bench big that probably play both Center ( Small ball) and power forward. He'd fit well on the floor with any of our other bigs. He is a modern power forward with nice athleticism. Seems like a nice bench role player and I'm not sure you can ask for more than that from a second round pick. There are a lot of solid value picks in the second round this year. Reminds me of a big Austin Reeves. I really wanted us to snag Reeves before the Lakers did. We ended up with Hauser that I also like.
