Why is it against the rules to show a gun on social media?

I do not understand what he did wrong.

Also, there apparently is a rule:

Didn't something similar happen with Allen Iverson? If I recall correctly a couple of members of his 'posse' were barred from NBA arenas mainly because they were known gangsters.

I think he’s having an identity crisis.

This seems like a step in the right direction at least:

Damichael Cole: Ja Morant has deactivated his Instagram and Twitter accounts. pic.twitter.com/PG5aBkgwxr – via Twitter DamichaelC

Adrian Wojnarowski: Statement from Ja Morant: “I take full responsibility for my actions last night. I’m sorry to my family, teammates, coaches, fans, partners, the city of Memphis and the entire Grizzlies organization for letting you down…. I’m going to take some time away to get help and work on learning better methods of dealing with stress and my overall well-being.” – via Twitter wojespn

Quoting Nick from the now locked Ime thread:

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Context, obviously

Yeah.  When the media is reporting on three thuggish incidents, don’t pull a gun out in a club, and then post it for the world to see.  It hurts the NBA’s brand, at the very least.

But, suspensions aren’t the worst thing that can happen to a kid that wants to live life like a gun-toting gangster.  I hope he’s got a few responsible voices around him.
It really seems like this is not the case, but I hope he does turn it around before becoming a "what if?"
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Ja made a statement and was apologetic.

I disagree since he's been a casual repeater of these sorts of behavior and things. But time will tell.

So it is against the NBA's rules to have a gun at a facility / team stuff. Fair enough - Gilbert Arenas. But Morant wasn't at the arena or anything like that when this film clip was done.

The player must show proof of a gun license for any weapons owned. Is that what Morant did wrong? He had an unlicensed firearm?

Edit: Or was it over the Pacers incident? That was an NBA arena (parking lot). I could understand but if they proved that then a 2 games suspension seems light.

Seems more likely to be about the video he shot.

It’s because it was on a road trip.

Okay. So it applies for the entire road trip.

I thought it would just be for team travel & NBA events.

Strange rule. Don't like that. Applying to all NBA events makes sense to me. I don't think they should be able to make those rules extend into player's personal time.

Okay, I understand. Thank you.

We live in a country where many have a fetish for guns, despite the negative impact that it has had on young people. I’m not sure what is surprising.

Wasn't it the same with Zach Randolph, formerly of Memphis? The Hoop Family? One of them is doing time for murder right now I think.

Just watching SportsCenter, Woj said that the NBA had already been investigating Ja for a year before this latest incident, because of all the other red flags:

Ja wants to be the second coming of Tupac I guess Here's the video in question, 1 min long, clearly he's trying to impress his dawgs https://www.reddit.com/r/memphisgrizzlies/comments/11hz8vk/full_video/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

Whenever I think the Cs are causing me aggravation I just look over at Memphis, Ja out for at least two games maybe more, Dillon Brooks suspended for his 16th tech, Brandon Clarke out for the season with an ACL tear, Steven Adams still out, and they're clinging to the 2nd seed...we're in good shape compared to them  :police:
