Probably didn't affect me in the way it's asked but a death that really surprised me was Kevin Spacey's character in LA Confidential.  He was billed as one of the main stars but when he got killed there still felt like a lot of movie left.  I just didn't see it coming.

It was a long time ago and not a great movie IMO, but I gave some credit to the writers of “To Love and Die in L.A.” for offing one of the main characters fairly early on.

The curb stomping in “American History X” effected me like none other I’ve seen on screen.

Psycho was the big one to do this.  It's pretty tame by today's standards but it's pretty incredible the affect that movie (particularly the shower scene) had on people at the time.

Being almost 60, there have been too many to pick one, so here's a few.

M*A*S*H - Col Blake (probably my number 1)
Top Gun - Goose
The Force Awakens - Han Solo
Glen - Walking Dead
Agent Todd - NCIS
IronMan - Avengers End Game
Boromir - The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

Most recently though, Clay Spenser in Seal Team.  He was the next Bravo 1 and they killed him off due to his other show.  Absolutely crushed!

That's a good starting point.  Can't wait to see what others think.

Michael having Fredo killed in Godfather 2.  You know it's happening but the scene from the funeral when he's hugging him and looks at his henchman with the "go ahead" all the way to the boat scene is so well done.

The Han death still really p---es me off.  They really botched the whole sequel trilogy.

Not sure if she's been mentioned: Edith Bunker.

Those who are old enough should remember, It was highlighted by the incredible dramatic performance in that episode by Carroll O'Connor as husband Archie.

I had already prepared myself for Han Solo dying in The Force Awakens long before the movie started. I believe Harrison Ford wanted his character to die in the original trilogy, and since he was 73 years old when The Force Awakens came out, the writing was on the wall for me.

I still maintain, Avengers Endgame was one of the worst written movies I have ever seen. About 25 minutes into the movie, you knew Tony would die at the end, when the story started to focus on his relationship with his daughter. They made it so obvious, that it had the opposite impact the directors/writers were going for.

Somewhat obscure, but one as an adult, is Stormy Llewellyn from Odd Thomas. Just unexpected and heartbreaking from Thomas' point of view.

the death in the book was far more hard hitting than the movie.  movie didn't do the book(s) justice

Hands down, Opie from Sons of Anarchy. So tough to watch him die that way.
