I’m still shaking my head at the absurdity of what we witnessed the other night.  This thought crossed my mind:  close your eyes and try to visual any great player in NBA history reacting the same exact way.

It’s impossible to visualize without shaking it off immediately.

Granted it’s a different time but still.  Try it…

Jordan - nope
Bird - lol nooooo
Kareem - maybe a little pout, but no
Magic - no
Russel - hell no
Wilt - probably would have been relieved he didn’t have to go to the line.

The only guy I can come close to seeing is Rodman…with a towel over his head…but I think he’d more likely just go bananas.

Just weird and a bad look for the league.
Yup

Total temper tantrum.  Immediately reminded me of a toddler throwing a hissy fit.  Have to imagine almost anyone else in the league would've been T'ed up.

I assumed that the Tatum free throw to start overtime was for a LeBron T.  Beverley earned his too, but LeBron was obviously deserving of one.

I hope Tatum saw how ridiculous LeBron looked and tones down his own reactions a bit, but given the league-wide sympathy for the missed call, and general lack of mockery for his childish tantrum (I said in another thread it reminded me of my 6-year-old who couldn’t find the correct swimming goggles earlier that day), I’m not sure it’s as teachable moment as it should be.

I think most of the greats would do that if they came up in this era.  I mean we saw plenty of glares and confrontations back in the day, it isn't a leap at all to see those glares turn into this given the era.

Jordan would basically be Luka today.  So cocky and arrogant.  Talking to everyone and complaining about everything.

All of those guys would've come out and nailed the overtime.

very true.  they would have channeled that anger/frustration into making sure the OT wouldn't come down to a ref's call or non-call

Kobe would have said something to the ref, and then would have taken 16 shots in OT.

I guess I could see Dwight doing this.  He's always been a clown.

But, the "picture this" exercise is funny.  It cracks me up trying to envision Tim Duncan carrying on like that.

Picturing Bird throwing a temper tantrum like Lebron the other night is something else.

While I agree to a certain extent, LeBron is the only player in this Era to have gone off like that.

Larry would have told his defender exactly what he was going to do on that last play, then make the shot and send everyone home.

Larry would have never gotten the chance, because Dennis Johnson would have been too smart to hit Jaylen in the head on that And-1. ;)

I mostly find it annoying that his blatant travel on that play has been ignored by both Lebron and the media.  To throw a temper tantrum like that after such an obvious travel just makes it worse and shows just how pampered he really is.

He could’ve waited 5 seconds before protesting, a different ref might have approached the other refs to confer.
It’s weird he can be such a disciplined athlete but then can’t stop himself from reacting immediately. That’s weak focus. Of the other players mentioned so far, I can’t really think of any that lost focus so easily when times got hard.

I'll be curious to see how the calls go for LeRoid now.

It's a joke the Ref Union apologized and it has set a bad precedent.

I'm all for more accountability and the reffing being better, but this isn't the way.

Still don't believe in Joe.
