Celtics trade Grant Williams and a 2nd to the Jazz for Jarred Vanderbilt.

Defending my 2022 title........

1) Celtics trade Justin Jackson to SAS for a Protected 2nd round pick and cash.

2) NOP trades Willy Hernangomez to Celtics for a TPE and two 2023 2nd round picks.

3) Raptors trade Fred VanVleet to GSW for Wiseman, Moody, Divincenzo, and a future pick. Raps trade or release Juancho Hernangomez to make room for deal. Warriors then sign Anthony Lamb to their roster off 2-way deal.

4) Spurs trade Poeltl to BOS for Gallinari, Pritchard, and two 2nd round picks.

5) LAL get D'Angelo Russell, Rudy Gay, and Malik Beasley; Jazz get Russell Westbrook, Austin Reeves and 2 future 1sts from LAL; Wolves get Mike Conley, Nickael Alexander-Walker, and F. Korkmaz; Sixers get Austin Rivers

6) Raptors get Dwight Powell, Torrey Craig, 1st Round Pick from PHX; Hawks get Jae Crowder, Reggie Bullock, Frank Nitilkina, future pick from DAL; Mavs get John Collins; PHX gets Gary Trent Jr.

All deals work within league rules, I believe.

Too bad Pop didn’t want my deadline supposition / Brad’s deal. But I think I’d rather have Muscala, Pritchard and Danilo than Poeltl.

My prediction is Mike Muscala to the Celtics for a second round pick swap.

Nice one VG! I particularly like the "2nd round pick swap" part hhahahahah.

Yeah, I finally got one right.  I usually don't even come close.  I did not get the part of giving SAN another second rounder so they would take Jackson though.  They didn't need to do that. Muscala fit the TPE.  Now we still have that for Cam Johnson from the Nets.

Memphis gets OG Anunoby.  Toronto gets Danny Green, Ziaire Williams, David Roddy, and 2 1st round picks.

Celtics get Jalen McDaniels for Justin Jackson and a 2023 2nd round pick.

Celtics get Jarred Vanderbilt for Peyton Pritchard and 2023 2nd.

Miami gets Jae Crowder.  Suns get Caleb Martin and Omar Yurtseven.

San Antonio gets a 2nd rounder from Denver for taking Ish Smith’s salary.  Ish Smith gets to play for another new team.

The Jazz trade Jordan Clarkson to the Clippers for Robert Covington and multiple second round picks.

Bonus prediction:  There are 6 or fewer trades between now (Feb 2nd PM) and the deadline.

My bonus prediction has proved epically bad.

What?  No one predicted that there would be 152 51 second round picks traded?

I would recommend changing the due date to the end of Sunday or Monday because the rumors will fly after that and the folks who are unwilling to lay a bet now will kind of cheat by trying to sneak in their submissions right before the deadline after serious rumors leak/fly, other posters post their bets, etc.

If a tie-breaker is needed, it should go to whoever posted earliest unless they posted on the same day, in which case both should win since we all come on here at different times of the day (and we don’t want east coast bias, or at least us folks out west who generally only post in the evenings, rarely lunchtime or early morning). That would incentivize not trying to piggy-back on others after days of predictions.

But you’re the boss, Roy.

Predict the trades made by teams at or near the deadline, with bonus points for correct Celtics predictions.

Two points for predicting the Celtic who is traded.

Six submissions at the bottom, but here are the players I think we might trade before the deadline:

Pritchard, Gallo, Hauser, Jackson

Quote
Two points for predicting the team he is traded to.

Utah, Golden State, Houston, OKC

Quote
Two points for correctly predicting any specific asset we acquire (i.e., Jae Crowder; OKC #1; etc.  Cash does not count.)

KO, Vanderbilt, Martin Jr., Muscala, Wiseman

Quote
One point for predicting a non-Celtic who is traded to another team.

Rozier in the 6th trade bet

Quote
One point for predicting the team he is traded to.

Phoenix

Quote
The winner receives 500 TPs and the title of "Trade Deadline Guru" (or a similar title of your choice.)

All submissions are due by 11:59pm EST on 2/8/23.  You will not get any points for deals you "predict" after they have been announced.  Submissions are limited to six total.

Six submissions capturing above:

1)

BOS In: KO
UTA In: Pritchard, Gallo, Jackson, pick(s)

2)

BOS In: Vanderbilt
UTA In: Pritchard, Hauser, pick(s)

3)

BOS In: Wiseman
GSW In: Gallo, Pritchard, Hauser, pick(s)

4)

BOS In: Kenyon Martin, Jr.
HOU In: Pritchard, Hauser, pick(s)

5)

BOS In: Muscala
OKC In: Jackson or TPE, pick(s)

6)

PHX In: Rozier
CHA In: Crowder, Saric, picks

7 of 8 possible points (called it that Crowder and Saric would be traded - just got their location wrong…kicking myself because I had a feeling they’d go after KD instead of Rozier, but thought they’d fall flat given the run the Nets went on recently before KD went down, so figured their new owner’s fireworks would have led to Rozier instead of KD…plus, I made my call before Kyrie got moved).

Thanks for the 500 TPs and the title of "Trade Deadline Guru.” Will go great with the trade ideas thread 🤣

The best part of this deadline was the long-overdue death of over-valuing second-round picks. A rudimentary understanding of analytics and NBA history leads to the conclusion of how the expected value of a second-rounder pales in comparison to an actual NBA starter. For a non-lottery team, five of them for a starter is probably still good value to the team getting the starter…

And it was an ideal in the greenly trade thread before this contest even 🤷‍♂️
