So many good people have played POTUS.  It's always fun to see the different actors and how they take on the role.

Thomas Whitmore (Bill Pullman) from Independence Day is a strong candidate.

David Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) was solid, but maybe a little reckless, on 24.

Tom Beck (Morgan Freeman) in Deep Impact.

Not so good:  Jack Nicholson in Mars Attacks.
I'm not much of a movie buff, but of the actors mentioned, it's not even close. Give me Morgan Freeman.

Has an actress ever played the prez?

There have been, but I'm not going to profess I can name them.

Julia Louise-Dreyfus played the VP, then the POTUS in VEEP, I know that one for sure.

Cherry Jones on 24 was good.  I remember Gina Davis in Commandee In Chief.  Robin Wright as Claire Underwood sucked.

Donald Pleasence as President John Harker. Can approve of his foreign policy at any rate.
Man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much—the wheel, New York, wars and so on—whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time.

But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man—for precisely the same reasons.

I'd go with Jed Bartlett.  However I'd add Henry Fonda (Fail Safe) to those mentioned.

I’d  vote Freeman. Did any of these parts ( other than the West Wing) hint at what party they were a part of? I definitely didn’t care when I saw these .

Michael Douglas (The American President) was a Democrat.

Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho from "Idiocracy."

A leader and a patriot. And not afraid to tackle real problems like the economy and the environment.

Biden should certainly follow his lead:

Great movie when I first saw it, but the thing that always bugged me about that movie since 9/11/2001 is the open question of whether it gave the idea to those maniacs:
