Cavs nearly beat Toronto with Garland getting hurt and only playing 13 minutes.  I think the Cavs could be a sneaky good team this year.  Probably not a title contender, but man are they going to be a tough out night in and night out.

I agree, hope garland doesn’t miss time.

Warms the heart to see Ben Simmons still afraid to shoot.

Ben Simmons may be broken for good. Legler discussing it on sports center.

Not really sneaky, they were a top 5 in the East for half of the last season before they were decimated by injury. That have multiple all stars, a budding superstar and Good depth including solid veterans

Banchero with a nice stat line 27pts 9reb 5ast 2blk. Good shooting numbers. It was against the Pistons though.

Except he didn’t really “shoot”.  I think only a few shots were outside the paint.  He’ll be able to use his athleticism to a degree, especially against inferior talent, but he’s going to need to develop his mid-range/outside game as well to be worthy of a #1 pick

Opening night records highest TV audience in five years

The National Basketball Association (NBA) recorded the highest TV audience for its opening night in five years, with a 17 per cent increase on the 2021/22 season. The league tipped off its 2022/23 campaign with a doubleheader on Warner Bros Discovery-owned cable network TNT. An average audience of 3.3 million viewers watched the Boston Celtics’ victory over the Philadelphia 76ers, before defending champions the Golden State Warriors later defeated

According to Sports Media Watch, the Celtics-76ers opener was watched by 2.98 million viewers, which was up 36 per cent from last season’s opening game between the Milwaukee Bucks and Brooklyn Nets. It was also the most-viewed early game on opening night in five years, behind the 2017 opener between the Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers which drew 5.6 million people. Meanwhile, the Warriors-Lakers game averaged 3.55 million viewers, up four per cent from the same matchup last year. It was also the league’s largest opening night audience in three years.

The NBA also announced that its video content on its official social media channels and the NBA App generated 148 million views, which was the most-ever for an opening night. This was also a 200 per cent increase from the numbers generated from 2021.

Quoting Nick from the now locked Ime thread:

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

I'm 100% sure we will see the first player with a billion dollar contract.

That would be 200 million a year for 5 years? I think we are a ways from that. But if you mean players earning a billion over the course of their contracts? That seems possible in future or maybe even with someone already playing.

Depends how young you are.
I don't think we get there with the next CBA.

We'll see... but with how it's been trending I could see someone getting 70-90m a year very soon.

$70-$90 million a year for 5 years is still world's away from a billion dollar contract.

I'm not so sure, he has the size, strength, athleticism, ball-handling and passing to survive without a perimeter game for the meantime. I think it's on the way, as that's just the way he has to grow, and his mid-range game is solid, but his combination of strength and skill is great.
