It's August, and the board is mostly current events, so here's a trade idea to hopefully spur discussion.  If the Donovan Mitchel saga drags on another six weeks, we can include Brogdon in a trade for Mitchell.  The Jazz presumably don't want Brogdon, but the Heat might.

Boston receives:
Donovan Mitchell

Miami receives:
Malcolm Brogdon

Utah receives:
Grant Williams
Nikola Jovic
Duncan Robinson
2025 Boston 1st round
2027 Boston 1st round
2029 Boston 1st round
2027 Miami 1st round (top-10 protected, top-6 protected 2028)
2026 Boston 1st round swap
$13.5 million TPE  if they use smaller ones for Grant and Jovic.

Why for Boston -- Mitchell paired with Tatum and Brown should speak for itself.  Also, Mitchell is one of Jaylen's best friends (maybe his best one) in the NBA, so hopefully that would help smooth over any hurt feelings that may exist from the Durant trade rumors.

Why for Miami -- Miami has been rumored as trying to use Robinson, a 1st, and lesser prospects for players such as Eric Gordon.  Jovic is a better prospect than Gabe Vincent, but Brogdon is also better than Eric Gordon.

Why for Utah:  4 1sts, a swap and two young players on rookie deals, one of whom Ainge obviously likes in Grant Williams.  Not quite the Gobert haul, but still a haul.  The TPE might come in handy as well.

I personally think Brogdon brings more than Donovan to this team but I like your thinking. Don't get me wrong I would love Donavan in addition but never want to help Miami either.

I think Brogdon fits our team better barring health concerns...

I think Mitchell would be tremendous on offense for this team.  Offensively it's like having the good parts of Kyrie, but he actually takes the floor most nights.  Having two of Tatum, Brown, and Mitchell in all the lineups would go a long way towards preventing the scoring droughts we saw last season.

Defensively -- he's also reminiscent of Kyrie lately, although he was a lot closer tp neutral on that end a couple of years ago.  He's got the wingspan (6'9") and speed to be better on that end than he has of late, and I do think Udoka would be the type of coach who could get him back to being passable at defense, especially with the other players he'd have around him.

Look at last year's playoff rotation, and imagine replacing Grant Williams with Donovan Mitchell.  It's just hard for me to not see that team winning it all, even taking into account the positive contributions Grant made in the earlier rounds.

I think this idea was discussed before.  Brown, Tatum and Mitchell sharing the ball wouldn't work IMO. One of them would end up being very unhappy, probably Brown.

Yeah, Mitchell is a volume shooter and doesn't defend...

He’s an efficient volume shooter who also had an assist percentage higher than anyone on the Celtics.  The Jazz has the best offense in the NBA last year, and were #4 the year before.  I’m not sure why you wouldn’t want the best offensive player from that team.  The ball would find Jaylen plenty.

44% and 35% from 3... 5asts per game.. the same amount of assists as Smart last year. Same as Brogdon...

Would probably have to be Smart and White along with picks to land Mitchell. Don't see people getting on board for that

Yes there would have to be a buyer for Smart and maybe even White as third team. Just thinking in terms of talent off this roster. Brog is less value than Smart currently

Yep. Idk if those late first round picks would be enough, but it’s the right idea.

The trade I had proposed a bit ago was this

Boston - Mitchell, Gay
Cleveland - Smart
Utah - Sexton, Rob, Grant, PP, 1st's (25, 27, 29)

I think that makes a fair amount of sense for all 3 teams.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

That's laughably bad for Boston.
