I'd wait things out. See if Brogdon is a good fit and how the rotations work out. Including seeing how quickly JD develops. One of White, Smart or Brogdon if not two could be used on an Al replacement.

BOS In: Mikal Bridges, Jae Crowder, Bismack Biyambo, 2028 PHX 1st (unprotected), 2029 PHX 1st swap (top one protection)

PHX In: JB, Kornet, 2023 POR 2nd, 2023 2nd (NOT the ORL pick)

Gives us four years of Bridges at a bargain, depth our team needs, a potentially exceptional pick, and signals to JT that this is his team and his team alone with a Big 3 where Bridges, Smart, Timelord, and Brogdon will rotate from night to night who’s 2, who’s 3 and who’s next. Also enables us to move Brogdon back into a starting role, where an offensive talent like him truly belongs.

If we think JB may jump ship and/or we simply cannot afford to pay both JT/JB max money and still have a contender built around them, this deal makes a lot of sense.

The deal makes us 11-deep right now (10 until Timelord is back), and undeniably makes us the best defense in the league (Bridges was runner-up to Smart for DPOY, and Timelord is another DPOY contender):

Smart/D-White
Brogdon/D-White
Bridges/Crowder
Tatum/Batman
Timelord/Horford

Bench: Pritchard, Biyambo, Gallinari (deep in playoffs if we’re lucky), Hauser

just no.  yet another bad idea to get rid of JB.  don't understand this fascination of yours to give up JB who's always the best player in your trade proposals.  Biyombo is not nearly the player he once was and Crowder's become a malcontent -- particularly about his departure the last time he was here.  Bridges isn't on JB's level - nothing justifies this deal

Bridges’ defense > JB’s defense

Offensive gains from Brogdon becoming a starter and Bridges > JB’s offense

Plus, we’ve got assurance of a Big 4 under contract for years after JT is given a supermax: JT, Bridges, Smart and Timelord. No more worrying about losing JB for nothing, and that potentially cascading into JT seeking greener pastures in LA because we did not make him the sole superstar on our team…

If Crowder becomes a malcontent as a potential 6MOTY, we ship him out for whatever we can get.

Biyambo can still defend and rebound better than any big available to us. He’s strictly a cheap insurance policy to hedge against injuries to both Timelord and Horford.

Don’t forget how golden those two late 2020s picks could become, years after CP-3 and Ayton are gone from Phoenix.

For the love of all things holy! You genuinely think we should remove one of our leaders (who is very well-liked) and replace him with an unknown, and a repeat malcontent (Crowder)? In the wake of losing our coach abruptly? Far out!!!

Our leader is JT. I’m watching the NBA Finals Game 5 repeat on NBA TV, and just feel very strongly about our need to move on from JB or we’re going to regret it. Bridges is a top five defender, currently a top 50 talent, and potentially a top 20-30 player on this team as a sidekick to JT alongside Smart, Timelord, Brogdon, and Horford. Our defensive identity is completely solidified by moving Bridges/Brogdon into our starting lineup, and our leadership (JT as THE leader) is solidified at the same time. No more distractions, uncertainty or mixed signals aside from our interim coach, who will be replaced by CBS by January 1 if we struggle out of the gate.

Per ESPN, “Bridges was one of three Suns players, along with Jae Crowder and Chris Paul, to rank in the top 25 in defensive real plus-minus last season.” Crowder solves our lack of depth at 3/4, too. Just give him 24-28 MPG depending on the matchups and he should be pleased. Suppress Batman’s production some in the process, and we can force a cheaper extension in the off-season. Perhaps Crowder comes back as a 6MOTY type defender. Meanwhile, Biyambo will help me sleep soundly given the injury history of Timelord and Horford’s age.

What a reductive way to view locker-room dynamics. There is only one leader? How do you think Brogdon would react to us trading the guy he most wants to be around?

I know you feel strongly about wanting to get rid of JB. We all do. You have posted non-stop ideas in this thread alone for around 12 months - a thread created so your non-stop ideas wouldn't overpopulate the Latest Discussions section. Just because you feel strongly about it, doesn't make it smart.

Your optimism about Bridges is also misplaced. He plateaued last season and is 26 years old. Brown is a month younger and is a better player, by a significant margin. Why is Bridges a "potential top 20-30 player", but our actual top 20-30 player in Brown has no more room for improvement? Just stop

If Bridges was the second or third best player on a major franchise like Boston, NY, MIA or LA, he would be recognized as a top 30 player already. He is arguably the best defensive wing in the league and almost inarguably a top five defender. He’s basically the best defensive wing since Prime Kawhi. He’s also developing in a Jimmy Butler-like slow-burn fashion, so I would not stop projecting further growth. Perhaps most importantly, he won’t repeat all the knucklehead mistakes that JB made in the Finals last year. Plus, he’s locked down for four years on the cheap and bringing him finally gets Brogdon starting on our team, a situation I’ve wanted for years. Finally, this may be one of the few ways for Phoenix to move Crowder without taking a loss. I’d love adding Crowder’s exceptional defense to our depth.

Lol, whatever. No actual evidence behind your silly assertions. Jimmy Butler was a 20/5/5 All-Star at the age Bridges is now.

Bridges is a Marcus Smart level player. Fringe top 50 in the league. And he has not improved in the last 12 months either.

Bridges is only entering his fifth season, which was the first season Jimmy made an all-star appearance. On this team, Bridges would be an all-star this year. He won’t be as good as Jimmy on the offensive end, but he may get close with the right opportunity. He’s already a better defender.

You're knocking JBs Finals performance when he was, pretty clearly, the team's best player in the Finals. The bonehead plays JB kept making were the same bonehead plays Tatum made but Tatum made as many or more depending on metric. And Smart too. But it's the player that played best in the Finals that made less or the same amount of bonehead plays than Tatum and Smart that has to go?!?!?!

Just more inventions. "Bridges would be an all-star this year" is based on absolutely nothing factual. Just your fantasy realm. He will never be close to Butler on the offensive end, he does not have anything resembling the shot-creation, playmaking, or ball-handling skills.

Another idea that will work later in the year if Ayton goes for it, and if both the Celtics and Suns struggle it is possible both sides may be open to this:

BOS In: Ayton, Bridges
PHX In: JB, Timelord, Pritchard

Biggest benefit for us is Ayton and Bridges both being under contract long-term. They have a record of being very healthy, too. Downside is Timelord has the potential to be an all-time great Celtic. But same could be said for Ayton and Bridges.

Really solid eight-man rotation:

Smart/D-White
Brogdon/D-White
Bridges/Batman
Tatum/Batman
Ayton/Horford

Bench: Hauser, Kornet, Gallinari (deep in playoffs possibly), Buyout Player

Would struggle to do Brown for Ayton and Bridges alone. Have to pass on two "3s" for a "2" because team still does have Al and TL will return.

NBA is about top talent I don't mind seeing JB going for an upgrade or equal in talent but not a downgrade. Need something like KAT for JB to want to move on from him.

again, another bad trade for the C's based on your insistence on moving JB.  C's still giving up the best player in the deal as was pointed out to you in your last proposal.  neither Bridges nor Ayton are top 20-25 players in the league nor will they ever be.  JB has shown he can carry this team's offense when needed which neither Ayton nor Bridges can do.

not giving up our best player in the Finals for lesser ones.
