Delay of Game Calls

NBA should make all these dead ball practice shots a delay of game calls. That would stop most of this nonsense of players shooting them. Eliminate tonight's Tatum play.

It’s not a delay, though. Players generally take these shots when they were getting ready to shoot anyway, but on a dead ball. Delay of game is called when you actively are preventing your opponent from getting the ball and going up the court.

I also wish Tatum didn’t turn his ankle, but let’s please not blame him for taking a harmless shot. You block the ball from under the hoop, you don’t sneak under a player taking a jump shot. It’s typical Heat dirty play and it’s their fault, not Tatum’s

How about a rule where you can't slide your feet into a player's landing space? Call it the Kawhi Leonard rule...

I’ll add that a lot of these shots occur going into a timeout or the end of a quarter. They also often happen after a foul call where the player gets the ball right back under the hoop and lays it in. Or even just after a foul on the floor is called and the player is trying to get continuation.

A delay of game call just wouldn’t be valid in these cases
